Hi Matt. Thanks for this video, and all you share for the community. I'm looking for a halfslice for general day to day paddling with a view to taking on some big water like the Zambezi. 160lbs for reference. Seems you rate the goat highly for more challenging water but for handling in big volume like that rather than tight manky creeks, what do you think? Obviously anything works if you're Bren or Dane but for us mortals.. and I suppose its the puffy goat now too!? Thanks 😊
@@DownstreamV Thanks a lot. I'm in a Pyranha Varun mostly at the moment and thinking of looking for a bit more speed and forgiveness. Lots of options currently. Thanks 😊
I'm from Canada, I'm 5'4" and weigh (145-150 )lb or (65-68)kg; I play-boat down the Ottawa a lot, but I've never been in a half slice, and since covid its been hard to find one to try/demo. Would you suggest the Ripper, GOAT, Rewind, or any other half slice? Your input and advice would be most helpful.
Are you looking for speed? Downriver play and stern squirt? Something to run the gnar? Edges, boofing? What is your preference or paddling style? All those are very different boats.
@@DownstreamV I enjoy how responsive my small Jackson RockStar is, I don't like being in a boat thats so large/wide it feels loose on me (I have small hips, pants size 28). I'm not too crazy about stern squirting, I can do that in my Rockstar, but I do want to be in a responsive boat, while also being able to bulldoze (Run the Gnar) through falls, holes, waves etc. Speed is nice too, if I can generate enough speed to blast off a wave and get hang.-time/Kick-Flip, I would love that. I'm pocket sized; In order -> Run the Gnar, Responsiveness, Speed, Play.
@@alekokokkinias2742 I would have to say goat is your best option, followed by rewind. Goat is not playful but very responsive and you can pretty much run anything. Rewind you would Be able to stern squirt but would be a bit spicy in bigger water.
Two really different boats. To be honest it’s been awhile since I have been in an axiom. Axiom was a staple boat for a long time but lacks the bow rocker of the modern creek boats. The ripper is much faster and has much charger edges. Axiom is more of a beginner boat. Axiom can stern squirt easier than the ripper barring the large. Neither are great Creek boats due to lack of nose rocker. Both are more for river running and higher volume flow.

I think the puffy goat would be the ticket! That’s what I paddle now for harder water or the ninja !

@@DownstreamV Thank you so much, the reply made my day.
I would like to get your opinion on the ripper vs axiom
