it's a 100% about a toxic relationship, she knows jesus is the virtuous guy, but judas is the demon she clings to, and bc of him she ended up being stoned to death by the crowd. it's like she had the chance to kill judas with the gun, but she smeared the lipstick on his lips and made the betrayal even more evident. judas mv is SO beautiful, definitely one of my favorites
She said in some interview that Judas is actually a metaphor for days you feel like shit or you just sad. It’s about accepting these days because everyone have these. Try listen the song in that context🙂

As a Catholic, "Judas" was interesting for me to see the first time, because even though she's playing with the story of the betrayal, there's still some theological resonance in the video. "Marry The Night" was utterly gut-wrenching when I saw the premiere. I'd had a very bad weekend, and while I didn't have her level of freak-out, I was honestly wondering if I was some kind of monster. Edit - I realize now you're probably not doing "Marry The Night" yet, but it's pretty emotionally intense.
can't wait for you to react to Marry The Night video which is her most empowering, deepest, and definitely her greatest video so far and the fact that she directed the entire video on her own makes it even 10x better. Marry The Night and its video really helped me a lot in life and inspired me to overcome hardships and be brave in order to be able to embrace my true identity and be the person i always wanted to be.
Marry The Night still remains my favorite video Gaga has ever made. The message, the story, the visuals, the emotion. It’s all so pure and powerful. No other video has yet to top it. Can’t wait to see what you think
Funfact: the first seconds of the born this way mv are a reference to Hitchcock's Vertigo and the music is the same as the one in the begining of the film. There's actually a lot of Hitchcock inspirations in Lady Gaga: Bad romance names 3 Hitchcock movies in the lyrics, and in Paparazzi mv, lady gaga's fall reminds of the nightmare scene in Vertigo!
Yes, Electric Chapel is the name of the club and that is the name of the song later on the album (which to me is a better song than Judas). There is also a lyric in Electric Chapel that says "don't be such a holy fool" and in Judas she says "I'm just a holy fool" in the first line of the chorus.
Yes I much prefer Judas music video over the Born This Way one. TBH the Judas music video is one of my top like 3 music videos from her overall. I'm so freaking hyped for you to watch the You And I MV! Can't wait! You should also do some reactions/commentary of her live performances especially the Monster Ball and the Born This Way Ball. In the Judas video, I love when she’s standing on the rocks and the water is crashing into her. It’s visually beautiful ! I wonder what the significance of that is though? Also...never noticed how skinny she was in the born this way video!🤯😨
PLEASE include "Princess Die" live from the born this way ball in your deep dive. Gaga sang it specifically for her fans during the Born this Way Ball but it didn't make the Cut for Artpop so it's an overlooked Masterpiece!
I think it's more like how she knows that she's supposed to be with a good guy, but chooses the bad one (Judas), hence why they stone her to death, since she betrayed the good one with Judas. It's also probably metaphorical for how only death can release her from her toxic relationship with the bad dude since she doesn't have the strength to let go of him herself. I also think that the water scene where she drowns in the water is supposed to symbolize how she wanted to wash herself clean and get rid of her sins, but her sins are too big, hence why the water drowned her.
In Judas Gaga is playing the role of Mary Magdalene. Obviously the video is a modern telling of the gospel but the song can be interpreted in a lot of different ways. The toxic relationship, like you pressed on but also acknowledging an issue of toxicity and how it affects the rest of your life. It could be about a person or it could be about drugs. You have this thing in your life and you know it's bad for you and you know that is affecting you and those around you but you can't break away from it. It's very easy to associate it with addiction. There's also an interpretation of the lyrics where she's singing from the perspective of God because she says Judas betrayed her three times, holy trinity, and saying Judas kissed her when really he kissed jesus. If God Jesus and the holy spirit are all one entity then, from the perspective of God, he was betrayed by Judas three times, and when Judas kissed Jesus he was kissing God, and God, being God, still loves Judas through and after all of it.
Rico really had his full body covered in tattoos. He was discovered by Gaga’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti. Unfortunately Rico suffered from really bad depression and ended up committing suicide a few years ago
I loveeeee your point of views... I was 17 when this album came out and die hard Gaga fan but I guess I never saw it with your perspective because I was so young and naive.... I also love your thought of “toxic masculinity” and the whole lipstick interpretation... I never would have seen it that way because I know it was directly to reference “the kiss of Judas” in the biblical story that’s how Judas sold Jesus out he was going to kiss his cheek and that’s how they knew which one was Jesus. But I would not be surprised if your interpretation is also what Gaga tried to portray !

its also about loving your mistakes and her ptsd
