Zion is a great park. I usually get a 10 day package deal to Vegas for about $900 and use it as a homebase. I hate casinos so I'm usually out the door by 5:00 AM in my rental car and hitting all of the State and Federal Parks during the day. Zion Park officials are very accommodating and allowed me access to the park after the buses stopped running. They gave me a special photography permit to roam the park at night which was awesome. They do discourage any night hikes which is totally understandable, still driving the park at 2:00 AM during clear skies is a sight to behold. There are plenty of pull offs for night Photography. Two thumbs up for Zion.
Who do you recommend talking to at the park for this type of access? I plan to be there in December and would appreciate having the ability to drive into the park with my vehicle before daylight, before most of the other hikers come in on the buses. This would help with photography and with access to Angel's Landing with few-if-any hikers on the trail before dawn.
We stayed at the Arrowhead Cabins at Mt Carmel, UT. Lovely cabins and a great breakfast and nice and close to Zion and Bryce Canyon. A great location right in the middle of the Utah parks area.
As a native Utahn I strongly suggest you DO NOT go to Zion during the summer. It's too crowded and HOT!!! I would recommend going in the off season months. Also don't forget to check out the other National Parks as well. Arches, Canyonlands, and Bryce Canyon. Southern Utah has some of the most beautiful and breathtaking scenery.
First time to go to Utah, but I just got 2 days I'm driving from San Francisco leaving Friday afternoon so I have Saturday and Sunday what place you recommend? Thank you in advance.
We just went, drove right in and parked after doing our own 20 minute drive, then went back and rode the shuttles and the last Stop is Gorgeous! 1200 year old water, sooo peaceful especially at 5 pm when the sun is going down! 🥰🥰🥰
I'm Australian and I visited Zion N.P in September 2017. Loved it. I'm pretty sure that the restaurant there was where they had all you can make and eat tacos for lunch.
An easy way to get there is to take a vacation to Las Vegas and then go to Zion by riding a shuttle that goes from one of the Vegas tour companies to Zion. The one I went on also took me to Bryce Canyon National Park. You just have to be prepared to spend the whole day in Utah.
The first is you better arrive very early, or you won't find parking. Invest in quality hiking shoes. If angels landing seems too scary to climb, try the observation point ( 8 miles), or the canyon overlook (if you aren't in great shape). Observation point was the best for me, plus walking through echo canyon was amazing too.
Good advice! The earlier you hit the park the better. Shuttles are not crowded early in the morning. Angel's Landing was closed due to rock fall when I was there in Sept '18. I agree with you I did the Observation Point trail and it's spectacular for sure! Although not as scary as Angel's Landing you better be in good shape. The first mile to mile and a half is strenuous due to steep switchbacks. Once you get past there is gets easier, but still a tough trail.
Chris, I've been loving your videos for some time, but I just discovered this one about my summer home since I was born (East Zion). It is one of the best info videos that gets Zion right. Thanks!!
Omgsh, u have become my FAVORITE travel vlogger on RUclips! We are heading out West in the summer and it'll be 1/2 my family's first time past the Ohio Valley. So, to say we're stoked is an understatement! But none of us have been to Zion ever so this was SUPER helpful. Thank u SO MUCH! Also, your series on Vegas was AMAZING! and now I feel totally prepared for our trip. Thanks again for doing the prepping and planning for all of us. You're the best!
Super happy when I saw this video uploaded as me and my partner are heading over for a 3 week trip in July. Your Vegas videos were very helpful and so was this.
Thanks for all the effort you put into this and the tips. I especially appreciate the tip about the Canyon Overlook Trail. Been to the park twice (early 90s and 2005) and didn't know about that trail. Looks like a fantastic spot to see the entire valley.
This was so helpful for my trip in October! Please do more of the National Parks (Bryce Canyon NP, Death Valley NP, Grand Canyon NP, Monument Valley)! I love your videos and appreciate all of the honest and detailed advice!
There are plenty of places to stay in nearby LaVerkin, Hurricane and St George. It’s an easy 20 mile or so drive from Hurricane. Get there early to beat the lines and park in the Visitor’s Center lot. Street parking in nearby Springdale is $30. If thinking about hiking to Angel’s Landing check out some RUclips videos first. Food at the lodge is outrageously priced and service is very slow. If the water level (volume) is high the narrows are closed to hiking. Emerald Pool is a nice, fairly easy hike. Take the shuttle to the last stop, #9, hike that trail (& the narrows, if open) then work your way back. Late April is a great time to go - no crowds, plenty of free parking early in the day, good weather. Don’t miss the Canyon Overlook Trail just outside the tunnel but good luck finding parking on the side of Hwy 9.
I would like to thank you sir, for dedicating your life for my personal amusement. I feel the last few videos on vegas, and now this, is helping my planning go far more smoothly. As part of my trip to Vegas, I was going to Zion National Park, and this video works perfectly. The only thing that will help out even more is if there is a video on Death Valley National Park.
I visited Zion 3 years ago with some friends to hike the Narrows trail. Instead of staying at a smelly cigarette hotel in Las Vegas which I don't like, we rented a cabin in one of the small towns called Tropic near Bryce Canyon in which we also hiked. Inside the park we just parked along the main road and it's free, we did not pay a parking fee. The best way to visit Utah is by driving around on a road trip.
The drive is the grand circle tour it goes from zion to Bryce Cyn NP then on thu Tropic to Escalante on Utah hwy 12. The drive from Escalante past Calf creek BLM REC AREA: campground is very interesting as it is on a hogback ridge. the drive continues on hwy 12 north from to torrey, ut and then thru the northern part of Capital Reef NP to Hanksville and then south on UT hwy 96 past the Colorado river bridge @ Hite, UT. tHIS IS QUITE DRAMATIC at Hite as it descends thru several thousands of cliffs down to the river at Hite. Another interesting drive is to turn onto the Burr trail at Boulder, Ut and go down to Bullfrog Marina via the Notham Rd. Be aware that there is a steep descent to the Notham rd. thru the Waterpocket fold cliffs. It was unpaved in 1993 when I did it. The descent was wide and hard packed dirt and I made it down and back up in a 4cyl 4spd '86 Mustang. But I was in 1st gear all the way back up and almost overheated it even though I had a V8 sized radiator in it at that time. I turned around at the Notham Rd junction at the bottom of the Waterpocket fold cliffs because the road was sandy and I didn't want to get stuck. Past Rainbow Bridges NM an interesting is to go down hwy 261 past the VALLEY OF THE GODS thru the Moki Dugway which was also unpaved in 1993. The Goosenecks (of the San Juan) state park is very interesting; the San Juan river loops back on itself as most eroding it self into an oxbow lake. The Grand Circle tour then continues to Monument Valley Tribal Park where John Wayne made the Movie "Stagecoach" in 1936. You can go onto Grand Canyon NP South Rim or back to St George and the North Rim of GCNP past Vermillion Cliffs National Monument. There is a VERY interesting and beautiful hike to a place called "THE WAVE" where the rock layers undulate in a fascinating way like an Ocean wave. I haven't been there but seen many pictures of it; it is even on textbook covers as it is so unique and beautiful. I am dying to go back there and explore this area on BICYCLE.
I hiked the Observation Point trail in 80+ degree weather which was difficult to say the least haha. but the view from the top was so worth it. it was incredible
The funnest thing to do in Zion is canyoneering! It gets you away from the massive crowds and puts you into serene slot canyons. You have to schedule the slot canyons in advanced and it takes some know-how. Doing it without any kind of training can be life threatening. Also good to watch weather forecasts to make sure there's no rain.
We locals love seeing the excitement visitors have when experiencing the beauty and sense of peace of the park. Be sure to visit the other attractions outside of the park as there are many. Also you may not want to mispronounce Zions as non locals pronounce it Zi-Ons while locals pronounce it as Zi-Uns. There's much to see and enjoy!
You did it right Chris...video and punctuation. I'm from the East Zion side and we cringe when those from Salt Lake and St. George say Zions Nation Park! Ugh. I think it's because they have a bank called Zions. Anyways, nice to hear it right from you! (It is Zion National Park)
Nice... the touch of snow looks good too. I got lucky and tent camped there not knowing the issues of parking/camping/lodging..... Someone was a NO SHOW, so I got in and stayed 2 nights!!! Hey, you forgot the two parts worthy of a drive and some hiking.... which are not inside the ticket gates. I forgot the names right now, but one enters from the south on a road west of the Zion valley and the other is off Route 15?..... which is a road entering on the west side going to the east... a real nice DRIVE with photo opportunities. I had no time for hiking there though, but imagine one can hike East to the Zion Canyon West rim.
The scenery looks amazing there! I definitely would enjoy the hiking trails there. I'll have to consider going there sometime as I have not been to Utah before (except for a layover in Salt Lake City). Great video!
Canyon Overlook is easy to miss. Trailhead is on the north side of the road, parking is on the south side. In other words, you park and cross the street unlike your usual turnout. The tunnel entrance/exit and traffic stop all come together there too. I was paying attention to the rangers and the tunnel and missed the sign for Canyon Overlook trail, then had to go all the way through the tunnel and turn around. You can drive through the park and see a lot without riding the shuttle.
Nice. May I suggest you do a little bit more on the weather and its effects? For instance my son and I were at the park 2nd week of August 2018. We were scheduled to do East Rim Trail for an overnight. While at the Narrows it started to drizzle rain. By the time we made it back to Springdale, it was raining hard. But the time we went to dinner (really nice restaurant called Bit and Spur) we were watching rain of epic proportions. Our table looked north to the entrance of the park, those huge cliffs. Sheets of rain like you would not believe. Next morning the streets of Springdale are covered in red mud. We go to the visitors center to let the ranger know about our hike. Before I open my mouth he shuts me down. Everything is cancelled in the canyon. I ask him about travelling east through the tunnel, to do some of the hikes there. Sorry, a bolder got dislodged from the canyon wall and came crashing down on the road just before the tunnel. So that was out as well. Yes, Zion is a desert, but even deserts get ridiculous amounts of rain on occasion.
Yes, as a local the rain is the thing to watch...and it doesn't always necessarily need to be raining in the immediate area...you need to watch the reports and if the rain is hitting on the mountains North of the park, the rain funnels into the canyons. Specifically the rain funnels down the main Canyon into the Narrow's and the permit only hike the Subway. Epic rain can also make all washes and gully's turn into raging streams, and amazing waterfalls that cascade down into the Canyon. I once saw the Lower Emerald Pools look like Niagara Falls haha...it was awesome. With tons of water, or cold weather that suddenly turns warm, there is the potential for rock slides, and have seen a giant boulder break loose and crash onto the road. We had just started up the initial switchbacks towards Angel's Landing and heard a big cracking and booming sound, and it was a giant boulder that fell on the road blocking the way of the shuttles going back and forth. It's not a usual happening...but it does happen time to time, so things can be closed down due to such things. Key is to watch the weather, and be aware of your surroundings....99 out of 100 times you'll be fine, but there is always inherent danger in the outdoors...just be aware and prepare! haha, that rhymed!
Stay away from the weekends. The best time to go is midweek in the month of April and May or, in the fall like September or October. Best time to do Angles Landing is late afternoon.
Parking in Springdale is $20-25. And the visitors lot in the park can fill up fast. Summer weather can hit the 90-100’s. Be careful of the Narrows hike, I have hear of broken legs and being life flight out.
Parking is free when you can get your car inside during off-peak season with a pass and there's plenty of parking. The only time they don't allow cars inside is during the peak season, understandably due to the number of visitors. So you have to use the shuttle. That's why i like to go to these kind of parks during the winter or late winter when there's only a few people and it feels like you have the park all to yourself. It's also nice to drive around the park at your own time, your own pace without restrictions instead of waiting for shuttle availability and limiting your time to enjoy the park.
Big bend is also a great park, also a place that you can take a boat across the rio grande to mexico and have real mexican food in Mexico and come back to the us in just a few hours, so many places to see but very far apart. Zion looks, similar in some ways.

thanks for the information about transportation. I am coming to the parks this summer in a class c camper, Would like to park it and take a bus. Thanks for the information. Kathy
I think my 3 favorite parks are Bryce Cyn NP, then Zion NP, and Glacier NP in Montana. But don't miss Banff and Jasper NP's in Canada. Kimberly, GOOGLE a picture of spirit island and Maligne lake in Jasper NP, Canada. it is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!
City boy. :) The locals call it Zi-uhn or sometimes Zions. Also the locals recognize the existence of the many many surrounding cities besides Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. St. George for example. Also bring at least 2 liters of water if you plan on doing Angels Landing or equivalent hike. I've seen so many people who bring their tiny little water bottle and then get cramps in their legs. I recommend Weeping Rock if you're looking for an easier hike.
Great tips! We were just there and stayed in an A Frame near the park (video of it on my channel). An incredible experience. If you're able to, definitely hike the river there.

The scenery looks amazing there! I definitely would enjoy the hiking trails there. I'll have to consider going there sometime as I have not been to Utah before (except for a layover in Salt Lake City). Great video!
Utah is a great place to experience nature.. not many people in Utah compared to how big the state is
Hey I just released a video about zions and would love to get some feedback! Thanks so much.
Thanks for this vid I’m going to Zion next week with my family it’s gonna take 6 hours or more cause I’m in California
Planning a trip soon and found this video. I have to say, you are excellent at this. Very engaging. The tips are great too. Thanks.
Very helpful for an upcoming trip to Zion, thank you!
It's free parking if you have a national park pass
Glad to see this comment, since I just bought the pass.
I loved this video! Your charisma is wonderful and the information was so thorough, I'm glad I watched this :)
Thanks for the video .. the way you explain things is amazing and clear 👍👍👍. New follower here
Thanks Will!
Great info! Can’t wait for our trip to Zion!
Thanks Wise Move!
I hope you get to do a video on Mesa Verde National Park. I was there when I was a teenager and it was awesome.
Thanks for the extra tips about the weather!
Bit and spur is great !! Zions is amazing in the winter the emerald pools freeze over very fun to walk on!!
@@HAYES9521 , we went to the Emerald Pools after the intense rain. The upper pools were closed. The lower pools were mud.
Your video is excellent, you've been a help for multiple trips to Zion. Thank you!
Thanks Gar!
Stay away from the weekends. The best time to go is midweek in the month of April and May or, in the fall like September or October. Best time to do Angles Landing is late afternoon.
Now this is useful info!
Thanks!
i can only do weekends😞
Hi! Is May a hot month? I am debating between April and May.
Parking in Springdale is $20-25. And the visitors lot in the park can fill up fast. Summer weather can hit the 90-100’s. Be careful of the Narrows hike, I have hear of broken legs and being life flight out.
Going to Zion next week. Your info was really helpful. Thanks,
I adore that first one you recommended ( the view for the lazy folks haha ). Amanda
When people come to visit, they need to watch out for salt upon wounds and his white legs tribe
Wonderful information. Thank you.
Thank you. This info makes it so much easier to plan and avoid time consuming mistakes.
My pleasure Jones!
You are so fun to watch! Thank you!!
I think you would be a good fit for tour/guide cause you explain so good bro, it’s nice 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks Tempest Studio!
Great video! More useful useful information than I have seen in any other video.
Thanks
Thanks Paul! That's me... Mr Information :)
Big bend is also a great park, also a place that you can take a boat across the rio grande to mexico and have real mexican food in Mexico and come back to the us in just a few hours, so many places to see but very far apart. Zion looks, similar in some ways.
Beautiful place. Such a great video . Thanks for posting 👍
Thanks Kha!
This was new to me. But best believe i want to go now.

Thanks for the video. We plan on going there this fall.

It'd be worth mentioning that Airbnb has a lot of options in the area, too! I booked an airbnb in St George for 400/week

Thanks Angelina!

At George and Hurricane are both really close to Zion.
Very informative video! Thanks!
Thanks Veronica!
I’m going there soooon! I love national parks!
I'm sure you'll enjoy it! What's your favorite National Park?
Yellow Productions it’s hard to choose... it’s like asking me to pick my favorite child (if had children lol).
Hah
I think my 3 favorite parks are Bryce Cyn NP, then Zion NP, and Glacier NP in Montana. But don't miss Banff and Jasper NP's in Canada. Kimberly, GOOGLE a picture of spirit island and Maligne lake in Jasper NP, Canada. it is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!
Kimberly H wanna go together
Really helpful and informative. Thank you!
Thanks Brandi!
I can see you're wearing trail runners. Is the day hiking moderate or tough? Great content as always . thank you
Thanks for the tips John! I'm a city slicker for sure! :)
Weeping rock closed due to active rock fall.
New subscriber here! This video is so helpful. We are looking forward to visiting Zion national park soon!
Thanks Two moms! I hope you enjoy Zion!
Excellent review

I love Utah and I love Yellow!
This was super helpful!! Thanks
My pleasure Paulina!
1:50 you could also fly into St. George Airport which is recently redone.
Great tips! We were just there and stayed in an A Frame near the park (video of it on my channel). An incredible experience. If you're able to, definitely hike the river there.
Thank you ,I live in utah but have never been there lol going there on Friday so this really helps .can u drive through on a Motorcycle in 2021
You can only drive in to the park if you're staying at the lodge.. or in the winter. Even with a motorcycle I think
@@YellowProductions oh great 🙄 thank you so much ,good to know before ya go lol
