People a lot more knowledgeable than us about the area have been saying this for at least 50 years. there's a Nobel peace prize for anyone who can find a solution that does not involve wiping one or the other out.
@@truthgiver8286 That's because the main cause to all this suffering for both people is deeply rooted in religion. I'm not saying this as a islamophobic, not at all. I like to see a person as a human being first before any religion, but in this case it is in fact a religion that gives a lot of room for extremism to grow. Extremism that knows no borders and doesn't value a human life, since the cause of its doing is always justifiable in Gods name. How do you fight against that when it is a matter of belief, not politics? I would like to see a large number of protests done by muslims (there are almost 2 bilion muslims in the world) that would harshly condemn radicalism in islam. They are the only ones that could make the difference since around 80% of muslims are peaceful. So, in my opinion, they should as a majority, publicly and in large numbers condemn ANY kind of islamic extremism. In which country, specially in the Middle East has that happened?
@@tintofpeony6269 Why only mention Islam when the Israelis are using their religion to justify the atrocities they've been committing for decades? Statements like: "We are God's chosen people" or "This is the Promised Land that God had gifted to us" or "Israel belongs to the Jews." don't sound religiously-motivated to you? Islam is the religion of the majority of the people in the Middle-east. So naturally they are protective of their religion. This is true for any country where a single religion is the dominant religion. You mentioned the extremism in the Middle-east but did you ever wonder when that started? It was because the Western world kept making incursions on these people's lands and threatening their way of life. Imagine if the US and UK did not have a presence in the Middle-east. Imagine if the UK did give away Palestine to the European Zionists in the first place. Do you think there would be so much unrest and political upheaval in the region? People would have been going about their lives just fine.
Indeed it is strange that the PA scrapped the 2021 election because the last polls showed that hamas would be winning and not the PLO. So what this lady says is playing with statistics. Sure they might not support them but if they have to choose between hamas and the other party they would support hamas. A bit like in the US where you have 2 parties and some people vote because they are for a candidate but a lot of people also vote because they are against another.
People in gaza are sick and tired of terrorism. People in the US just talk and they don't know nothing. They live a good life. I challenge them, the hamas/palestinian supporter from US. Transfer to Gaza and you will realize how idiotic the Hamas are.
You know, as Bill Maher said: "Liberals are offended for people who are not offended themselves". Liberals think that they know better what other people need than people themselves. It is easy to protest when it does not affect you. Also, they see Hamas as a fighter against the West. This is what I came up across: ""Understanding Hamas and Hezbollah as social movements that are progressive, that are on the left, that are part of a global left, is extremely important." from UC Berkeley.
On the one hand they say that there is genocide in Gaza and it is the biggest prison in the world but on the other hand 50% of the population was born in the last 20 years. I'm confused
Well genocide is not defined by numbers but by intent to carry out an act which results in the destruction of a people. israel has been doing that since it occupied Palestine with real intent. There is no military or strategic value in destroying Gaza's power or water supply or destroying its healthcare system, it is an attempt at extermination.

If you were correct, that THOSE things were responsible for Palestinian violence and rejectionism, then why isn't Gaza a beautiful, prosperous Singapore or Monaco by now? Israel removed every last Jew from the strip in 2005. There was no fence, no blockade, no IDF, nothing! Gaza was free to build, to prosper, to show Israel and the world that the Palestinians wanted only to live free and peacefully in their own land, as we Israelis do. Instead, they built tunnels, they fired rockets, they imported arms, they raided Israel and kidnapped Gilad Shalit, they developed childrens television programming and Summer camps to glorify violence and ensure that there will never be peace with Israel. They turned Gaza into hell on Earth. Are you going to blame Israeli settlers and detentions for that? When are we going to stop treating Palestinians as children?
@@aaronlandis7867 Israel imposed partial blockades of Gaza already 2005-2006. 2007 when Hamas came to power they put an indefinite blockade on Gaza that since then affected the quality of life in a profound way for the people living there. Gaza nowadays is surrounded by heavy guarded walls and fences. Even Rafah Border are controlled by an IDF bastion. Nothing or nobody comes in or goes out from Gaza without the authorization from Israel. Not the most perfect circumstances for building a new Singapore or Monaco.
It will take the Israelis many, many years to trust the Gazans again. Gazans were allowed to enter Israel and work there. They received medical treatment in Israel. Some of the hostages themselves were peace activists and helped Gazans with transportation from the border to hospitals in Israel. The massacre that happened on October 7th shattered all their beliefs. Some of the Gazan workers in Israel spied for Hamas, they worked in Israeli villages and gave Hamas information about who lives where, how many children there are in each house, even to the level of which house has a dog. It will take many years for the Israelis to trust the Gazans again, if at all.
The Arab Muslims Palestinians need to leave the land of Israel. They cannot be trusted, they are not good people, they do not contribute to society they only put a burden on the world aid and charity!! It's time to say bye bye palestinians!!!
They will never enter Israel again after the war, that their brother Egyptians (who have a 12 kilometer border with Gaza) will transfer them water, for example, goods, Israel closes the border completely after the war.
This is exactly the problem when a Muslim interviews another one and both polishes the 'Religion of Peace'. Some examples below, * She says Palestinians in West Bank does not support Hamas. The vast Majority supported Hamas on October 7th and also when the Palestinians prisoners were being released in Prisoners Swap deal. Now they have a change of mind after seeing the destruction which can change any time back. * She said most were born after 2006. But most of them still sees Hamas as their saviour. So do their Parents. They had the power to throw Hamas out they did NOT. In short, so long as the Palestinians are taught hatred in their School curriculum, so long as UNWRA is NOT disbanded, so long as these two people become apologists for their religion, so long as Arab countries cannot recognize the rights of Palestinian refuges, so long as Muslims cannot co-exist with any other religions all over the World, this will problem of 'Religion of Peace' will remain. So STOP acting as if there is no problem.

There's one issue I have with this post - I've been looking at statistics trying to make an opinion on this. I keep reading that in Gaza all of them are malnourished and the majority are always jobless and starving. I'm not convinced that starving people are concerned with voting. Can you say something about that? Again I haven't made an opinion yet I'm just trying to understand this conflict pretty objectively. I'm not saying you're wrong - I have a lot of questions about why this is happening

This woman is very articulate. The polls may say one thing, but over the decades, I am yet to meet a Palestinian who does not see the Israelis as colonizers. They do not see coexistence as a goal. It will take a miracle for a viable two state solution.

Well why on earth would they have a good view of Israel its not like they had a great history with them. Keep in mind most of Gaza are descendants of the original Nakba.
Israelis are not holding their breath for others to have a good view of them. After October 7 noone in Israel will ever be stupid enough to try to help these people. They can stay in Gaza with their hate and their second Nakba which they brought on themselves - while Israel is a superpower.
Muslims refused to live in peace with the Hindus and Sikhs in 1947, committing massacres until India gave up over 300,000 square miles to create Pakistan. Israel is only 15,000 sq mi. Palestinians want every single square INCH
They are very good at blaming Israel for things but not so good at looking at their own actions and where it brought them (and no change of heart in sight)
The fact every cycle in the past started with a Hamas attack and ended with the restraint of Israel by the international community is the reason we are in this situation now. The only thing I don't understand is why the Palestinian people dare to join Hamas and not resist them.

She's asked all the wrong questions. Questions about corruption and trust in Hamas are very different from support for Hamas. Other polls that did ask that question have found significant (~75%) support for Hamas in their goal of driving Israel into the sea. Her results are good for mollifying and reassuring those who can be lulled into thinking that Hamas can be negotiated with, the mistake Israel made in 2005 and which they certainly will not repeat..
Israel has no intention of negotiating with Hamas. Not much point in supporting a strategy which has led to the destruction of your home when you need a political strategy which will allow you to rebuild it. If anything at all, Palestinians have learned that the Arab world is not going to repeat 1948 on their behalf, and start WWIII for their "liberation".

Of course, questions are put forward by CNN, they want to control the response. Therefore there are no questions that will paint Israel in a positive light.
Palestinian tribalism, and rejection of modern values, has had a big role in their continuous use of violence against Israelis. The pole didnt say that the Gazans do not support violence against jews. They have and will always be supporters of killing jews. Their education even in oreschools teach them to murder jews and that this is their holy jihad. And dying as martyrs is not only honorable but also will be rewarded by Allah. Just because they dont trust Hamas to be the one thay does the killing, doesnt mean they are against the killing. They would simply prefer someone else do the killing. But for now, there is no one else that tries to kill jews, so they support whoever there IS. And to the other guy who asked - First of all, nethanyahoo hasnt supported ethnical cleansing. Not yet, at least. In Gaza if thr IDF warn the Gazans before bombing so they can save their lives than people will blame Israel for explusion or ethnical cleansing out of gaza. If the the IDF doesnt warn them than it's genocide. This is how people views this situation - if they want to hate Israel than whatever Israel does it wrong. Now to the question - if Nethanyahoo had balls, he would have supported ethnical cleansing. The palestinians do not want peace. They want to destroy Israel. It's what they are indoctrinated from birth. If you teach a child from birth to steal and murder than obviously he will be a criminal. Since this is how the PA is teaching their population, there can never be peace with them ever. Even if you give them a country, they will Still just try and destroy Israel and there will be more and more wars and more killing. A cou try is not their number 1 priority. Revenge and destruction of Israel is and has been even before Israel came to exist. So Nethanyahu's only way to avoid killing is to remove the threat. The for palestinians, they will have much better lives practically anywhere else other than in Gaza. Palestinians in the US and Europe are far better off than anywhere in the middle east. I think not for this generation maybe at the outcome of the war that is currently on trying to root out Hamas and its supporters.. Then maybe once Hamas is gone plus an additional 25 years they may be able to do so but they should not look to other Arab countries as they have all done a shitty job...
Kind of agree to your view. Once Arab lands learn to vote and choose a leader who represents their interest more than anything else and administrators are open to criticism and feel answerable to their voters, real peace would prevail.

Clearly the majority of Palestinians don’t want Hamas. They also don’t want the palestianian authority. Both political parties were founded in response to the colonial oppression by the state of Israel. Change the colonial situation and make room for new political powers within Gaza. What about IDf and Isreal? I agree that Hamas has not done right by the people and killing of innocent Israelis should never have be a part of any campaign. At the same time, it did not give the Green light to IDF and Israeli PM to commit a genocide. Hamas has not even lost 500 soldiers, yet Isreal has managed to kill 20000+ civilians. On top of that, Israeli soilders and citizens chanting kill Palistanian children and babies. Is this what Israelis are taught in school? Did they forget not even a generation ago their families faced a similar experience. Now the oppressed have become the oppressors.

It's good to have this discussion with someone who knows more about it, but when she says Palestinians' are seeing Hamas as protectors, when it was their killing of 1300 Israeli citizens that caused Israel to do this counter offensive in the 1st place? Where is the disconnect between Hamas as "protectors" and Hamas as causing them to need protection.
I believe the people of Palistine under Hamas has the same problem that Israel’s government has over Israeli citizens. Hamas is a protector according to them. The IDF is a defense for the Israel. Notice both give off the since of defense. Protectors. When in fact both are just evil governments that are there like all governments to promote themselves. US government is a perfect example of evil. Only exist to enrich and further their own objectives.

Look up on you tube how Israel was created?then get write real facts.
I think an answer may lie in differences between what's reported in the mainstream media and what Gazan people may actually know? The more I've seen & read, the more discrepancies, I feel, come up, between Israeli government announcements, in particular, and other reports, such as the initial testimonials of released hostages. Considering that Hamas military and Hamas political arm are relatively separate (only the military are designated as a terrorist org, in a number of countries), how much control would Hamas political arm actually have over exactly who 'enlists' in Hamas military? On Oct 7th, could masked infiltrators have "joined in" the attack, to make it look much worse than what was intended? No one actually had to have literally come over the wall, in order to have anonymously committed atrocities. There is evidence that Netanyahu & others had prior intelligence & definite expressions of their prior planning for ways to "remove" Gazans to a camp in the Sinai desert. These are factors that I've considered, as the differences between Gazans displaying ✌️(peace) gestures, for example, and other claims that have been made, do seem to me to "not add up" with other reporting.
From listening to this and merging it with all that I have read over the years about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, it seems clear to me that the Palestinian people have, unfortunately, never had a representative governing body that was not corrupt or militant terroristic. How can the innocent citizens of Palestine and Israel ever hope to live in peace when this is the case?
If you kill nearly 20,000 civilians, you are a terrorist. Doesn't matter how highly the world thinks of you. So please explain why do you call Hamas a terrorist group but not Israel?
Unfortunately, Palestinians made a choice even by not choosing. All choices have consequences and in this case, civilians pay the price. The Palestinian leaders never opted for a peaceful solution.

Where is the evidence that "violence breeds violence"? Seems to me that a strong military is a deterrent, and the big reason why Hamas attacked was that Israel was close to a civil war, with conscripts telling Netanyahu that they would refuse to do military service for his government. Hamas genuinely thought that it might be able to overthrow the Netanyahu government and create terror that would make Israelis flee the country. Recent polls prove that the overwhelming majority of Palestinians think positively of the 7 Oct massacre, and only 10% think it was wrong. If a ceasefire is now forced on Israel, there is absolutely no doubt that Hamas will do it again.
I appreciate Dean Amaney's take on the situation, but as articulate as she is in presenting and nuanced argument to a more sensible and pragmatic approach to de-escalate, the other polls show a rise in militant attitudes among Palestinians for greater violence against Israel before and after the war started. It is clear, that they support Hamas by as high as 75% in the "river to the sea" movement.
That's the inherent problem as I see it. This war is as much about the hostages/land as a battle for the freeing of minds that are also held hostage to false doctrines of destruction. Ultimately, if we are to have any form of long term peace, there is going to need to be a generational re-educational program as was the case in Germany. Only then can the destructive mindsets currently being propagated, be finally be broken and rebuild in a positive manner. This is the real battle, a battle of the mind and one that we'll inevitably see increasing, not only in Gaza, but the world at large.

Of course you would like to articulate artificial separation between the Palestinians and Hamas, ISIS and such organizations. But the truth is that there is a major palestinian support in Gaza and in the West Bank for the genocide of Jews and Christians.
She is not giving the whole picture. Even if in terms of corruption and internal affairs Hamas has very little support in Gaza or west bank, this barbaric organization still enjoys very high levels of support in regards to terror attacks against Israel and many citizens will support and vote for them just for tgat, even if they know that it might cost them everything. The hatred isso deeply rooted that they have no regard for their lives or families.
Oh god, the occupied hate their occupiers (who also teach their children to hate the other side too) what a surprise! ( not endorsing the killing/kidnaping/harming of any civilian on both sides)
If you want to know how palestinians and arabs feel about hamas go to arab sources and social accounts not an interview with the cnn We arabs see them as freedom fighters who fight the brutal occupation You would say they are terrorists who killed burned and raped civilians because that's what the western media keeps repeating ovser and over but the real fact is that - israel knew about hamas attacks before Oct 7 still allowed the music festival - israel has plans before Oct 7 to expel gazans to Egypt so they can make ben gurion cannel - israel has committed a bunch of atrocities and terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank but still no one called them terrorists - there was a hostage named yasmin said in the israeli radio that civilians died because of the crossfire, also haaretz (israeli source) stated that israeli helicopter burned members of hamas along with civilians - half of the israeli deaths are soldiers who got attacked in military bases by hamas - there is zero photos or evidence that hamas beheaded babies and raped women but the media will repeat it anyway to become a fact in the sheep's mind - a lot of hostages that got realised said that hamas members treated them well although they were afraid - israel keeps the bombing even though the hostages are still in there - israel killed more than 17k civilians in just two months but no one in the West calls them terrorist but still paint those innocent civilians as human shield to make it seems okay to kill them - the root problem is the occupation not a bunch of people who are called terrorist because they are against occupation and israel genocidal and apartheid regime

I actually think the younger Palestinian generation is more radical. Hamas is actually far stronger in the West Bank (Judea/Samaria). That's why they don't hold elections there. Recent polls show overwhelming support for the brutal attacks recently perpetrated by Hamas, so doubtbul there are any prospects for peace.
In Jan 2006, Hamas won the election. In 2007, Hamas militarily seized control of Gaza. Most Palestinians have never voted in any election, let alone voted for Hamas. 52.3% of Palestinians are under 18, most of whom were not even born when the last election was held in Jan 2006. No Palestinian under the age of 35 has ever voted. Hamas won the election in Jan 2006 with 44% of the vote compared to Fatah's 41%. 56% did not vote for Hamas. In the course of the June 2007 Battle of Gaza, Hamas exploited the near total collapse of Palestinian Authority forces in Gaza to militarily seize control of Gaza by force (600 dead), ousting Fatah officials. Hamas militants seized several Fatah members and threw one of them, Mohammed Sweirki, an officer in the elite Presidential Guard, off the top of the tallest building in Gaza, a 15-story apartment building. Amnesty International's report from 2015/16 in Gaza, Hamas military courts continued to convict defendants in unfair trials, sentencing some to death. Torture and other ill-treatment of detainees remained common and was committed with impunity by Palestinian police and other security forces in the West Bank, and Hamas police and other security forces in Gaza.24 Feb 2016. On 30 July and 4 August, thousands of Gazans took to the streets to protest as reported in the Times of Isreal, Jerusalem Post, Associated Press, New York Times, Le Monde. Hamas brutally suppressed these protests. Hamas has not held any elections since 2006. No elections for over SEVENTEEN YEARS. According to the latest Washington Institute polling, conducted in July 2023: Hamas’s decision to break the ceasefire was not a popular move. While the majority of Gazans (65%) did think it likely that there would be “a large military conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza” this year, 62% supported Hamas maintaining a ceasefire with Israel, 50% agreed with the following proposal: “Hamas should stop calling for Israel’s destruction, and instead accept a permanent two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.” Moreover, across the region, Hamas has lost popularity over time among many Arab publics. This decline in popularity may have been one of the motivating factors behind the group’s decision to attack. 73% believed the Hamas government to be corrupt. Yet, Gazans saw little hope for electoral change. With no election since 2006, a majority of Gazans alive today were not old enough to have voted for Hamas.
Judea Samaria was 2000 years ago. Baseless argument. I listened to something that was so interesting. The jews have only totally ruled that land for 99 years.

The Arab Barometer poll she worked on was small (400 people) and asked vague questions like "Do you trust Hamas". Interestingly according to the PCPSR polling that's done every month, that has triple the sample size (about 1200), and asks very specific questions paints a different picture. Just google PCPSR #89 : "Vote for Hamas in the Gaza Strip stands today at 44% (compared to 44% three months ago) and for Fateh at 32% (compared to 28% three months ago). " "87% believe corruption exists in PA institutions; 72% believe corruption exist in the institutions controlled by Hamas "More people place the blame for the failure on Fatah leadership compared to that of Hamas, 29% and 18% respectively." "Support for the two-state solution rises from 28% to 32%" "76% believe the prospects for the creation of an independent Palestinian state alongside the state of Israel during the next five years is slim or nonexistent" "58% support resoled to armed confrontations and intifada in order to break the current deadlock" "Support for armed struggle is much higher than support for negotiations as the most effective means of ending the Israeli occupation, 53% and 20% respectively" The work this person is doing to fool people into believing that the Gazan people support something other than what they actually support is completely counterproductive.

Jamal uses the cliche that violence only breeds more violence. But the two greatest examples of violence, the WWII total destruction and defeat of Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan did not breed more violence. In fact, the opposite. Once Hamas tyranny is totally destroyed moderate Palestinian Arabs in Gaza will be freed to lead and to rebuild Gaza into a peaceful, prosperous territory at peace with its neighbors. The Civilized World will come forward with a new Marshall Plan to rebuild Gaza. Going forward, intolerance must be banned from Gaza schools, mosques and govt. The model should be the rebuilding of Germany and Japan post WWII.
The German and Japanese examples are fundamentally different to Gaza which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967 and has been a focal point of the conflict since 1948. Furthermore, the incentives of Israel are very different today than those of the US in 1945 during the Cold War. Not to mention, the violence during WWII was not ultimately enough to resolve the issues of the day. The comparison would be comical if it wasn’t providing cover for a genocide.
@@adilq399 In the case of Hamas’s violence of Oct 7, you’re correct it led to more violence and ultimately it will lead to the obliteration of Hamas. Hamas would have been wise to learn from your statement.

This is exactly the problem when a Muslim interviews another one and both polishes the 'Religion of Peace'.
Some examples below,
* She says Palestinians in West Bank does not support Hamas.

I guess, because Hamas is a part of the Palestinian people.

And to the other guy who asked -
First of all, nethanyahoo hasnt supported ethnical cleansing.
Even if you give them a country, they will
Still just try and destroy Israel and there will be more and more wars and more killing.

Where is the disconnect between Hamas as "protectors" and Hamas as causing them to need protection.
I believe the people of Palistine under Hamas has the same problem that Israel’s government has over Israeli citizens. Hamas is a protector according to them. The IDF is a defense for the Israel. Notice both give off the since of defense. Protectors. When in fact both are just evil governments that are there like all governments to promote themselves. Remember, it was HAMAS that took children as hostages. How low can this EVIL go is anyone's guess.

I'm guessing she is just stating as it is, just stating her findings.

- israel knew about hamas attacks before Oct 7 still allowed the music festival
- israel has plans before Oct 7 to expel gazans to Egypt so they can make ben gurion cannel
- israel has committed a bunch of atrocities and terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank but still no one called them terrorists
- there was a hostage named yasmin said in the israeli radio that civilians died because of the crossfire, also haaretz (israeli source) stated that israeli helicopter burned members of hamas along with civilians
- half of the israeli deaths are soldiers who got attacked in military bases by hamas
- there is zero photos or evidence that hamas beheaded babies and raped women but the media will repeat it anyway to become a fact in the sheep's mind
- a lot of hostages that got realised said that hamas members treated them well although they were afraid
- israel keeps the bombing even though the hostages are still in there
- israel killed more than 17k civilians in just two months but no one in the West calls them terrorist but still paint those innocent civilians as human shield to make it seems okay to kill them
- the root problem is the occupation not a bunch of people who are called terrorist because they are against occupation and israel genocidal and apartheid regime

Where does that hate come from??? Think about it and research
Tell Israel to stop the oppression
According to the latest Washington Institute polling, conducted in July 2023:
Hamas’s decision to break the ceasefire was not a popular move. While the majority of Gazans (65%) did think it likely that there would be “a large military conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza” this year,
62% supported Hamas maintaining a ceasefire with Israel,
50% agreed with the following proposal: “Hamas should stop calling for Israel’s destruction, and instead accept a permanent two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.” Moreover, across the region, Hamas has lost popularity over time among many Arab publics.
Based on what ?
Shockingly, if you repress a people for 56 years, they want to fight back. The solution is to stop repressing them.
Judea Samaria was 2000 years ago. Baseless argument. I listened to something that was so interesting. The jews have only totally ruled that land for 99 years.

Sorry, AFAIK, 44% voted Hamas in Gaza and Westbank alltogether, but about 70% in Gaza only,.
And Israelis voted their EVIL right wing government. What was the purpose of that vote. To bring peace and security to Israel?? Well they have it.

The Arab Barometer poll she worked on was small (400 people) and asked vague questions like "Do you trust Hamas". Interestingly according to the PCPSR polling that's done every month, that has triple the sample size (about 1200), and asks very specific questions paints a different picture. Just google PCPSR #89 :
"Vote for Hamas in the Gaza Strip stands today at 44% (compared to 44% three months ago) and for Fateh at 32% (compared to 28% three months ago). "
"87% believe corruption exists in PA institutions; 72% believe corruption exist in the institutions controlled by Hamas
"More people place the blame for the failure on Fatah leadership compared to that of Hamas, 29% and 18% respectively."
"Support for the two-state solution rises from 28% to 32%"
"76% believe the prospects for the creation of an independent Palestinian state alongside the state of Israel during the next five years is slim or nonexistent"
"58% support resoled to armed confrontations and intifada in order to break the current deadlock"
"Support for armed struggle is much higher than support for negotiations as the most effective means of ending the Israeli occupation, 53% and 20% respectively"
The work this person is doing to fool people into believing that the Gazan people support something other than what they actually support is completely counterproductive.

Segev later told a New York Times reporter that he had helped finance the Palestinian Islamist movement as a “counterweight” to the secularists and leftists of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Fatah party, led by Yasser Arafat (who himself referred to Hamas as “a creature of Israel.”)
“The Israeli government gave me a budget,” the retired brigadier general confessed, “and the military government gives to the mosques.”
“Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel’s creation,” Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official who worked in Gaza for more than two decades, told the Wall Street Journal in 2009. Back in the mid-1980s, Cohen even wrote an official report to his superiors warning them not to play divide-and-rule in the Occupied Territories, by backing Palestinian Islamists against Palestinian secularists. “I … suggest focusing our efforts on finding ways to break up this monster before this reality jumps in our face,” he wrote.
