    You need to bolt a tool box on that cultivator to have new points, bolts, and tools for field repairs. Just buy extra tools from a garage sale or Harbor Fright so you don't worry about them. Cheaper than driving back and forth. Good to see seeds going in the ground.

    The rocks are a continuing challenge, although ours are generally flat, sandstone rocks. Although, some can be the size of my kitchen table in surface area. That's one reason why I'm glad to have the Oliver backhoe now, because when I hook one of those big goonies and bring the tip near the surface, I can dig it the hell out!

    This year is my 60th crop. You have to know what is the best way to farm each farm along with each field. In our area if you farm each one the same you can screw the soil up and then it takes a couple of years to patch things up again. 😊

Our soil wasn't as rocky as yours but we had a lot of sand stone in our fields. That was many years ago and now all our property is in timber. Basically a pulp wood farm. We also have a small hunting club and the dews pay for the land taxes each year.

Our ground is fairly heavy and rolling, and no til works most of the time. You basically trade yield for fuel and time here. $'s per acre vs bushels. 👍👍

    Yep the one thing I've learned through my years in farming and around farming, and travelling all over the country and seeing how different things are done in different areas, is that there is *NO* "one size fits all" in farming. People do different things in the same crops even just up and down the road, based on their own goals and equipment they have, skill set, or lessons learned. When you throw in different soils, different climate conditions in different areas, etc. you get big differences in different regions. If there was "one single BEST way of doing things" there wouldn't have been different ways of doing it to begin with, everybody would farm the same way with the same equipment, using the same methods and machinery, etc. Simple fact is there are ALWAYS differences, even if its just differences in the farmer and their education and skills and experiences and goals, what they believe in and want to do things, and how the can make things work or not have luck with this or that.
    DO what works for you. Don't close your mind to new ideas or to different ideas, but don't automatically just jump on every "latest fad" or whatever "new and improved" way of doing something just because it's new and innovative... it has to fit with what you're doing and what you have experience with and can make work, and always best to try something out on a few acres and get the bugs out of it before going "whole hog" on anything... don't be afraid to learn and experiment, but don't bet the whole farm on this or that "new thing" or "new way of doing things" until you've worked it into a system that works for you on your ground, your climate, your conditions, etc...

    Maybe bring back the pet rock and you will be rich, 😂. I’ve done it 3 ways this year. Regular notill into the previous years stubble, cover crops and tillage. No till is the easiest for me but after a few years we get ruts, washes etc. so we still till a few acres. Doing cover crops to break compaction. Not doing it to save on fertilizer like the “regenerative” dudes. Keep doing like you want. It’s your farm and business. Everyone farms differently.

    Great video...Thanks for sharing your techniques...Have you ever ripped/chiseled further down to see any change in yields? I have very heavy, former sea bottom clay here and deep tillage is a must...I wish I could do no till but minimum till cost me a fortune in losses because of my heavy soil type

      Add gypsum to the soil, turns clay soft, lasts about 8 years

      @@markchristensen5206 Thanks...I added lime a couple years ago and did wonders for the salty patches (neutralizes the sodium), but yeah gypsum is even better (neutral PH)

      @moogman5 that's one more thing it's good for , neutral, I never liked lime, probably because it wasn't for my ground

      @TheGrumpyFarmer  Месяц назад +1

      We’ve ripped a few times if we’ve had a wet fall and where you kept running back-and-forth with the tractor and grain cart to get to the trucks and made massive compaction

    • @TheGrumpyFarmer
      @TheGrumpyFarmer  Месяц назад +2

      @@markchristensen5206 i’m not sure why anybody would use lime unless their pH level was low. That’s why you should soil test if you have a pH level of five you definitely would want lime. If you have a level of seven, you would be wasting your time and money putting on lime

    Second Day Super Slacker reporting for duty sir 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ It was well worth the wait on my end!! My gosh what a team you two are!!! The battles you face would cause me to blow an a$$ gasket within minutes 😳😳😳 I have a few close by me that basically laugh at me because of tillage "You are ruining your ground" they say. I don't know enough yet to debate, but I do know that I can't afford no-till equipment right now. I have to start somewhere!! I totally agree , what works for one doesn't mean it works for others!! Oh boy, I see they delivered that rock I found the other day 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😳😳🤣🤣 I see now what you saying in my video, wow that's crazy!! Boy I would love to see an ole 4020 on auger duty 😉😉 What a marathon you have faced this season, hopefully y'all got it all knocked out Andy, mad respect and hats off to you and the wife!! Points probably made out of recycled steel. I’m not aware of a real steel mill in operation in our country. Towed a lot of barges of scrap steel in the recycling mills. The steel is soft and easily bent and broken.
