Actually, mine has been running for over a month now on and off with the exhaust orientated vertically up the chimney and there is zero condensation in the exhaust. I suspect this is because the unit is being run indoors. With the exhaust outside in a colder environment then I expect condensation in the pipe would eventually become a problem.
Some points to pay attention: exhaust pipe straight down to prevent consensed water and residues clogging the burner, change the fuel hose to a proper one, insulate the exhaust pipe cause it is placed next to the fuel line at the bottom of the heater....as well apply some rubber foam to the fuel pump which decreases the noise significantly. So this bone cheap appliance is an incredibly good solution to warm my shed
Your right but when glow plug is running it's not ideal but it uses 2A DC at 12v. Like 25W at worst. And if the transformer recifier is 50% efficient then it will be 50W draw constantly. Doubt any fires at this power but I agree with you.
Actually, no, it is not inductance. It is due to a rolled up cable, which generates some heat, being unable to dissipate heat, so the cable just gets hotter, and hotter. Eventually the plastic insulation just melts. How much heat is generated, depends upon the load on the cable. In this case, it will be minimal.
I've got the same unit and originally had it outside until I bought an extra length of exhaust pipe, then I moved it inside with the exhaust out of a window, the efficiency was so much better when you are not trying to warm up - degree temperatures. I was using a 3rd less diesel compared to it being outside
So, I have the exact same heater. I run it in-front of the fireplace in the living room and vent the exhaust straight up the chimney. Zero fumes in the house. It will take our sizeable living room from 14°C to 24°C in about 35 mins and then the heat starts to find its way out the doors and into the rest of the house. To do that it has to be run on 5.4Hz. Mine is powered from mains using a 30amp transformer bought from Amazon and I’ve run a watt meter in-line between the power supply and the heater. I can state it will draw as much as 9amps on start up and again on shut down for a period of about a minute as it lights the glow plug to both fire and then purge the combustion chamber through both those phases of operation. During run it draws anywhere from 0.75amp and 2-3amps depending on motor speed. Really pleased with it. Sourced a supply of red diesel for it today. One of the best things we’ve ever bought.
This is what I plan on doing with the one I've just ordered so I'm glad to hear someone else has done a similar thing. Our house only has a gas fire in the front room so I'm planning on putting a diesel heater in the fireplace of the master bedroom and then route the exhaust up the chimney. It should hopefully take the chill off the upstairs during the winter months.
Brilliant Idea, could you post a little vid on youtube, tapping the chimney is obviously one of the best solutions if the fumes make it up to the roof and condensation evaporate eventually👍
Having the heater unit indoors gives the added benefit of the high temperatures from the first 2ft of the exhaust with the exhaust fumes vented outside, recirculating the air from the room through the unit also makes for quicker warm up of the room.
That, and at least 50% of the heat is wasted through the exhaust pipe. Wanna double the efficiency or have 10KW of heat on teh same amount of fuel? Put the unit inside and pipe the exhaust throuh a radiator with a 12V radiato fan end THEN out of the building. These are basically just pistonless engines where they are barely 35% efficient unless you use the exhaust heat as well.
This things are nifty and work well, IF your building has good insulation. I have one of these in my garage. It makes winters a bit more bearable, but there's no insulation in the walls.
Why are you heating outside air? Run another duct from the air intake to the inside of the house - that way you are adding heat to the inside air just as does a 'normal' house furnace. You will then get much higher temperatures than heating cold outside air. Remember that the diesel heater has a finite temperature differential capability which means that if the outside air drops 5 degrees so will the air coming from the heater.
That would cause negative pressure in the house, meaning the house will be acting as a vacuum, and sucking cold air from the outside in. Having neutral pressure, as in this setup is much more efficient.
you should have a battery, as if there is a power cut the unit will self destruct due to the heat. You can put the battery across the output of the power supply. That should allow the battery to stay charged in case of an outage. I would estimate a small and cheap 12v 7ah for ups should allow run down time to cut the burn off and save the unit
Bare in mind if you have a power cut whilst heater is on, it could fry the mainboard, as these heaters need to be shut down slowly, so I use the battery with a constant trickle. Just a thought !
You can do whit a 5 amp power supply, the start up is 7,5? Amp running mac 3 amp .. the battery can handle the start up .. there are some saving’s to make there …. And cycle that inside air
its probably been stated elsewhere in the comments, but that heater in your garage is exhausting *INTO* your garage (small hole in the muffler to let water escape) + plus + they're generally terribly welded together so leak anyway.
I have one heating my Corner House for 2 years now. Saved me a buttload of money. Nice 22C° all day long. Build it in a box outside, same as you. Hot air is the only thing going Through the brick wall.
Thanks for the vid! 👍 I’m just getting mine put together for mounting in a metal box outside. I’m planning to have the controller inside powered from a power supply similar to yours(4:12). As we do suffer from occasional power outages, I’m going to power it from a UPS which will kick in when the power goes down and give me time to shut the heater down properly. I can then dig out the generator if it looks like being a long power cut!
just an observation. your exhaust could possibly fill with water. it needs to be level or downward. they should be a hole in the muffler to allow water to drain.
If used inside your house Check your carbon monoxide meter near your exhaust to see if the alarm goes off I bought one and my alarm still didn't go off at 200 ppm so i had to get another one

My mate did the same and said he could run the heater for a full day on 5 litres of diesel when I worked it out it was £7 per day that equated to £210 per month.. my gas and electric bill totals £107 per month I might be missing something here but how is that saving you money??
I think these are over rated for anything but their intended use, and that’s to defrost cars, vans, and keep lorry cabs warm in Arctic conditions, hence been called night heaters. Yes you can use them to heat campers, motors homes, but that’s the limit. If I don’t have my heating on for 24 hrs in my house it’s 15-16 degrees, but having the heating on 24/7 with the hive set at minimum 18 degrees it’s costing me around 40p an hr you’ll find that heater is costing more than 40p an hr to run flat out with today’s diesel prices, if you get kerosene for 85p a litre then that CDH will cost you 36p an hr to run flat out. Noway can this heater take the chill out of any house unless it’s a doll house, the maths don’t add up 5kw heater they are rated for but they are not 100% efficient. I bought one of these to heat up my garage (uk) and it’s only 9x20ft concrete and it’s getting to maybe 12 deg after hrs on end zero ambient temperatures, this was also with the exhaust inside I did this to test it and it’s a 5kw maxpeedings all in one. The price of these are going through the roof based on tube vids, who are also jumping on the band wagon for clicks, just look at the views this guys vids have and then look on the heater clicks. I bought one based on these tube vids and tbh it’s cheaper and more effective for me to use two electric heaters, and a dam site more quieter. They must make a good 80 plus DB and it’s annoying as hell in my shop just hearing this thing. If you have no other means of heating then these can work to heat a small room, small been key. If you have central heating then don’t listen to these tubers and turn your heating on it’s far far cheaper. Cost to run these heaters flat out because it will always be on flat out mine used 1 litre of fuel in 2.5 hrs 1 litre of pump diesel cost £1.85 that’s 74p an hr 1 litre of red cost around £1.35 if you can find it local 1 litre of kerosene .85p if you can buy 500 litres that’s 34p an hr a little cheaper than running your entire house on central heating and this will heat your bog, maybe a bedroom. So let’s just say you can run on cheaper kerosene, the heaters are now £200 give or take mine cost £250, then a transformer cost £50 because everybody’s buying cheaper ones, then any cabling you’ll need so it’s £300 minimum for me it’s not saving me any money because I can’t get cheaper fuel and I’m only needing to heat my garage for 2-3 months of the year.
In many ways you are correct. Running these at full chat does consume the fuel and gets expensive, but it’s bloody good at bringing the living room up to temperature quickly and then throttling it right down until it’s on tick over or just above and it then retains a nice warm background heat in the room for as long as you need. In one month of general usage, the unit has consumed 30 litres of red diesel in my case using as we have. By comparison, had I been running the gas central heating for our 5 bed house, or just been using the 7Kw gas fire in the living room, the cost would have been considerably higher than the 30 litre of diesel this heater has smoked over the same period. I think you just have to be realistic with your expectations of what a parking heater can achieve and use it accordingly. I still think it was an excellent purchase. Paid £105 for our 8Kw unit and it’s been faultless so far. I never bought it with the expectation to heat the whole house, just one room, or if i orientate it to blast directly up the stairs, it does get the landing area and a couple of bedrooms nice and toasty within about an hour.
Hi there mate! I recently purchased and installed one of this dieasel heater into my garage, but its far away from yours! I have a 20ft x20ft 10ft tall garage, and got a "8kw" heater. Did give it a go, but on full throttle, from 10 in the morning till 17 it only pushed the temp up to from 0 to 8 celsius... The garage made from plywood and have 5cm polifoam isolation all around. What is can be wrong ? Im just about to send the heater back. You have about the same size garage, and yours heat up from 0-12 in a half hour?! Thats very impressive, from a 5kw heater!
All you have to do It's put a battery trickle charger That's about two amps More than enough when the unit runs it takes no power It does not pull twelve volts at all times
Don't you want to heat and circulate air inside the house rather than cold air into the window.( Which investabley will blow hot air out somewhere else). Just pop the exhaust out the window ( like a camper install) ?
I have just got identical one to yours. Mine will be mounted on shelve in my garage, can you fire it up with remote, or do you have to go to panel display every time, great video, thanks for sharing
Apart from CO and CO2, does the exhaust smell like a car exhaust? Also, some people report that if you extend the exhaust like in your garage to recover exhaust heat, water vapour comes out from it. My main concern is smell, not vapour.
Your exhaust pipe should run continuously down hill to drain condensation away. You have it going up then down, that will fill the pipe with condensate waste water.
@@ourtimevanlife9667 Perhaps you can do what I did with mine - use something to elevate the unit. Mine is mounted inside my van. I made a stand (18 inches tall) out of some plywood (cut intake/exhaust holes through) and 2x4 beams. That way I could let the exhaust pipe go nearly straight down (through the floor of my van), while still getting some heat from the ~18-inch section of exhaust pipe that's inside the van.
Iv got the same controller as that if you press the cog and up button it turns it to hz and you can control the speed of it so it doesn't run flat out hope this helps
Yes, it puts it into 'manual' mode, so the heater isn't reliant on the thermostat in the controller. It has settings from 1 to 6 "H-1 to H-6". I've just bought a 5/8 Kw one for my house!
If you add dipetane to kerosene it burns cleaner and lasts longer it also works with diesel and petrol engines and gives far more mpg it's great stuff and engines run far smoother
That sounds far to loud. I think the fan is catching the casing on the heater.. ive 4 diesel heaters and non of them sound like that.. unless its the tin can that its in..
Had voltage issues with my diesel heater I put in the van too. No chance of running off leisure batteries running off just solar, so it's connected to our starter battery and in 18 days we've only had one flat start to the day 🤣🤣
I read a blog about a gal who has a similar setup and she starts the van engine for startup and shutdown, because of the 9 amp current draw of the glowplug.
Had a look at UK prices for diesel heaters compared to here and US. Because you are all buying these heaters trying to keep warm at affordable prices they are gouging you guys like crazy and charging virtually double for the identical products sold here.
@@ourtimevanlife9667 hi yeah take that back just looked it 2 mtrs max not the 1.5mtrs and min 90 degree bends x3 has something to do with the gases not being able to escape properly and also the unburnt diesel and water cant escape as you have it bent upwards
Sorry im looking at these heaters for My Garage for The winter - does your model have to be connected to a battery as well as the diesel Supply or will it run just of diesel without the battery ?
Hi that model you have is out of stock and they've priced it wrong at £999-99 so its obviously a different model have you the correct details for your model thanks
@@ourtimevanlife9667 this is a nice idea I have been toying with. My heater arrives next week . Heat exchange from exhaust makes most sense to me as if you use the hot air it'll reduce the heating effect . The exhaust is going to waste so harnessing that seems best
Yes you can, just change the control panel from °C to Hz. 1.4hz is lowest speed, 5.4Hz is max speed for this particular unit. I find it runs better and is easier to control having it set to Hz. Also has a direct effect on the fuel is drinks. 1.4 practically nothing. 5.4 it starts to get a bit thirsty but the space becomes way too hot leaving on 5.4 for any period. Once the room is up to about 23°C then I throttle it back to about 1.6Hz and it keeps the heat in the room stable.

Depends what mode it's in there's Hz setting when it'll run at a fixed output constantly or a temperature setting when it uses the thermocouple in the controller to ramp the heater down to minimum when set temperature is met.. it doesn't completely shut down but minimises fuel consumption and fan speed
who are you kidding no way will a night heater that are made for truck cabs and small vans will heat a thee bed room house one room not a problem and they are not made to run constantly trust me they will burnout i have on in my garage which is 20 x 20 for a couple of years now and in cold weather it takes hour to warm up and by the way the ones with the water pipe are to circulate the water in the engine block in to stop the engine freezing up in the winter in cold countries i have been using night heaters for 40 years so i no what im taking about

Air inlet needs to be fed from inside the house make a big difference
When you mentioned the of fuel it uses what's the running time for this
Thanks
Apart from CO and CO2, does the exhaust smell like a car exhaust? Also, some people report that if you extend the exhaust like in your garage to recover exhaust heat, water vapour comes out from it. My main concern is smell, not vapour.
No small at all in the garage or vapour it works great
Nice! Yet 12 degrees C here in Australia is fucking freezing! 🤣😂
lol 👍🥶
Model of heater please. Thanks in advance
Your exhaust pipe should run continuously down hill to drain condensation away. You have it going up then down, that will fill the pipe with condensate waste water.
Yes it’s the only way I can exit the garage with out drilling holes in the walls but it’s been running great and no problem for over a week now 👍
@@ourtimevanlife9667
Perhaps you can do what I did with mine - use something to elevate the unit.
How sad...every single item in your list of links is unavailable. Too bad...I wanted to purchase the heater....
Thanks for your video very helpful thanks 👍🏻😊
Really good idea 😊
12:03 How is that extra LONG exhaust tube functioning? Seems like a lot of restriction.
No problem at all it’s been working great every day I run it for about 5 hours in the garage in the day to keep the car and tools dry from damp
Iv got the same controller as that if you press the cog and up button it turns it to hz and you can control the speed of it so it doesn't run flat out hope this helps
Ow ok thank you will have a look 👍
👍thank you
@ourtimevanlife9667 hi fella how did you get on did it work on your control panel ???
Yes, it puts it into 'manual' mode, so the heater isn't reliant on the thermostat in the controller. It has settings from 1 to 6 "H-1 to H-6". I've just bought a 5/8 Kw one for my house!
I love your Cobra what engine are you running in it ? thanks : )
I like the car in your garage😎😎
12:20. Duetocondensation, exhaustsould ALWAYS go horizontal or better.. DOWN
Nice one ----where did you source the extension tube for the air intake?
B and Q, saw it later in the vid.
If you add dipetane to kerosene it burns cleaner and lasts longer it also works with diesel and petrol engines and gives far more mpg it's great stuff and engines run far smoother
Thanks for the tip on dipetane, I have researched it at Halfords and will give it a try! Never heard of it before.
another great vlog
Great video thank you
Your losing a lot of heat having
uninsulated ducting as it will now act as a heat sink.
Yes unroll that exstension lead is acting as a coil
That sounds far to loud. I think the fan is catching the casing on the heater.. ive 4 diesel heaters and non of them sound like that.. unless its the tin can that its in..
How can you put the battery charger on when the powers out
Do you guys use the phrase go pound sand. Lol just wondering. Lol.
Any issues with having the AC/DC converter outside, just worried about damp or condensation getting to it?
No problem at all last year just setting up again soon for this year 👍
Had voltage issues with my diesel heater I put in the van too.
What can we do about that? Nothing
the exhaust pipe is to long you will have problems think the max should be 1.5mtrs and as staright as possible and it shouldnt be going upwards
It’s running great up to now
@@ourtimevanlife9667 hi yeah take that back just looked it 2 mtrs max not the 1.5mtrs and min 90 degree bends x3 has something to do with the gases not being able to escape properly and also the unburnt diesel and water cant escape as you have it bent upwards
What does electricity/kW cost in Britain?
Installation engineered and constructed by Heath-Robinson bodge ups ltd.
I forgot completely about the heater at 14:47 when he opens the door to an AC Cobra.
Sorry im looking at these heaters for

The winter - does your model have to be connected to a battery as well as the diesel
Supply or will it run just of diesel without the battery ?
Hey it needs a 12v battery supply. Hopes this helps 😎

Turn your ads on. U start maming money from youtube 👍👍👍
Excellent heating solution!👍 What’s the story with that Cobra?, looks peachy.
Jacks yes the Cobra I built it over about 3 years and that was 17 years ago thought it’s only a kit car be easy to build was I wrong..
Hi that model you have is out of stock and they've priced it wrong at £999-99 so its obviously a different model have you the correct details for your model thanks
Just looked it up it’s the same one but must have sold out or got greedy I have noticed the prices have gone up Reg D
It’s the same one but out of stock have a look on Amazon Reg
Hi mate have u a link to the power supply plz is yours a 5kw or 8kw heater thanks
Hi Steve if you look at the links blow all are listed but they are hard to get hold of now on eBay look at Amazon
@@ourtimevanlife9667 Thanks mate have a good Christmas all the best Steve.
@@stevelindley9341 yes and you Steve don’t drink too much 🎅🍺
The irony that someone with a HUGE hot tub has concerns about their energy usage!
That’s why it’s turned off and for my next trick to warm the hot water up in the tub from the heater 👍
@@ourtimevanlife9667 this is a nice idea I have been toying with. My heater arrives next week . Heat exchange from exhaust makes most sense to me as if you use the hot air it'll reduce the heating effect . The exhaust is going to waste so harnessing that seems best
You wouldn't be Jealous would you
@@absrecovery I’m not a child. If anything I would like his garage.
But the festering pool of human waste!!!
I’m good thanks.
@@ourtimevanlife9667 so why buy a hot tub if you don’t use it!
Bizarre
Can these run on electricity only or do you need Diesel and Electricity?
Can I ask we’re did you get your heater as they’ve seemed to went up in price on eBay?? Thanks
Hi Kevin yes it was off eBay but the price is now gone up it’s crazy
You can still get them relatively cheap if you know where to look .
Can’t you just change it to fan speed rather than temperature.. I set mine to that. Then the controller can stay where it is .
Yes I need to look into this 👍
Yes you can, just change the control panel from °C to Hz.
Hello good video were can I get one like yours at the moment and what are the specs tks
Hi Martin it was off EBay it’s hard to find one like this one and prices have gone up this is similar

@@martinmorgan8475 yes mine was in the Uk only took two days to come possibly look on Amazon as well
Can you post a link for the heat extension pipe???silver one
It’s just air bucking from B&Q I had left over from the van build
What temperature would the air be leaving the unit ?
If you go to are new vlog last week I did test that 👍
I have 8 kw which sounds much less,
The controller doesn't work like a thermostat
Depends what mode it's in there's Hz setting when it'll run at a fixed output constantly or a temperature setting when it uses the thermocouple in the controller to ramp the heater down to minimum when set temperature is met.. it doesn't completely shut down but minimises fuel consumption and fan speed
Hi does the house smell when you first started it
Hi David
No there’s no smell at all 😎
@Ourtime Vanlife thanks mine seems to have a smell but it's not fumes
Roof no insulation walls no insulations doors no insulations ??? Wats in your mind??
Its a Garage yes no insulation well done
Anyone give advice why my heater drips some diesel and wont ignite to be warm. ??
Drips diesel? Must have a pipe leak or leak from the filter?
How long is the exhaust on yours?
1.5 metres bought off eBay never had any problems
I think with your setup you will burn your cobra !
who are you kidding no way will a night heater that are made for truck cabs and small vans
will heat a thee bed room house one room not a problem and they are not made to run constantly
trust me they will burnout i have on in my garage which is 20 x 20 for a couple of years now
and in cold weather it takes hour to warm up and by the way the ones with the water pipe
are to circulate the water in the engine block in to stop the engine freezing up in the winter in cold countries
i have been using night heaters for 40 years so i no what im taking about
No it’s great for heating the down stairs area kitchen and lounge it’s working great for just that 👍
never have an extention cable coiled up, not rocket science
👍
