Houston hotels taking reservations despite not having power

- Some people said they made hotel reservations to get relief from their powerless and damaged homes only to show up and find out the hotel didn't have power, either.
Is everyone just sumbags nowadays
pretty much
Uh yes
Yeah, and the month of July starts scumbag season
The hotel has the responsibility to let the people know there is no electricity available!!!
Is that true? Is that written down anywhere?
Why try and play people. Better to let the customer know in advance no lights so there is no confusion in person.
When you're in a city that has had sketchy cell phone coverage for days and little to no electricity how are you suppose to reach out to corporate to get the word out? Yes they try to reach out to the hotel operators but the message may not come through for hours. Cut the hotels some slack the entitled behavior of people is what made me leave the industry.
@@duncanpatel472 thank you! 🙌
@@duncanpatel472So expecting a hotel to have electricity is now given a negative connotation of "entitlement" not a valid expectation since Hotel didn't give any notice via website, email, text or otherwise that it was experiencing power outages?
I'm curious how you would've handled this if you were still in the industry & it were your relative, friend or colleague who booked the stay while unbeknown to him but to the knowledge of all hotel staff/owners there was no electricity?
There had to be at least one Technician or Administrator that could've made sure notification was made via websites, mass emails to upcoming guests & news channels. it's not as though every laptop, tablet or phone was without power. And in a city that has had serious storms it would also pay to have backup generators on hand.
I guess everybody is ripin off everybody these days
Bring your own beer, water, and lights.
Also bring your own playstation 5.
Hotels should have Auxillary power anyway.
Ya and you should expect to pay $500 a night. Oh wait you wanted something in your budget.
@@duncanpatel472 🙌
@@duncanpatel472 that’s bull shit too! I think it’s bull shit they are allowed to raise the room rate on the weekends. No different about that room then it was on a Monday.
@@dewyedwards2257 ya it should illegal to ask for a discount as well. That’s total bs that you’re too cheap to pay. Hope you pay sticker price for a car as well. 🤣
They just raggedy
Franchises are the reason a lot of businesses are crap. They are owned by individual and sometimes large hedgefunds, both of which could careless about how well the stores run day to day. Especially subways are some of the worst because the operators make the least profits.
@@EdwardM919 they make profits for the franchisor not operater. They suck it out through kick backs and whatever little is left they overspend on capex and excessive renovations. By the time you pay your note, snd all the bills you end up working for free. When you bring it up you’re just met with blank stares and acting like you are doing something wrong. Their favorite lines are default these days.
If someone told me You didn't say you wanted air, they would have had to call HPD!! That person should be fired!!!!!
I bet the owners last name is Patel.....
My grandma is speaking the truth they never said that they did not have any power they just went ahead and book my aunt in the hotel room, and they were thinking that they were going to be under ac after being days and still going on days with out power.
Damn they about to charge xtra for AC now.
We had the same experience with the Hyatt in The Woodlands on research forest.
A friend of mine, after driving miles, arrived at the hotel and found they had no AC. They had intermittent power from a faulty generator, so the lights blinked on and off. She raised so much h3ll, they didn't charge for the room.
Well my hotel didn't have a playstation 5,they did however have water, swimming pool, Ac,and a clean room, but no playstation 5,and they still made me pay 4 the hotel, what a rip off.
@@aaronramirez2610 - 😄😄
That’s evil
TEXAS IS KNOWN FOR EVIL
Holiday inn Express is not what they used to be
Bring your own AC.
The whole city did not have power.
Apparently everyone is a crook these days. I hope these hotels are reported to Corporate.
Sue them
How would you not think to ask if they have power? CALL THEM, LOOK ONLINE
I booked online for 3 nights, drove all the way there, had no power. They're charging me almost $200 to cancel
At $200 a night, what makes you think they're not thieves?
This is insane
How are they getting reservations? By carrier pigeon
I bet they won't refund people's money.
This happened to me and school, for the Texas FFA Convention
dang. glad i toughed it out at home
Embarrassing
I had it worst, i traveled at leat 2 miles on foot, just 2 find out The hotel did have Ac,swimming pool, a 50 inch tv,but they didn't notified me they didn't have no playstation 5.
Newsflash: Businesses in it for the money. Ive never stayed at a hotel that didnt have a gen.🧐🤓
Well, duh! That's the main reason why anyone would want to stay at a hotel. This is beyond stupid.
Wrong, you stay in a hotel because of the playstation 5.
@@aaronramirez2610😂😂😂
That is why you don’t talk to computer programs. Not that hard to understand
Texas education
Smh terrible
They are greedy
These hotels are owned by center point or Gregg Abbott right?
They are run by Hidalgo 😢
Daah
Don’t live in a desert
are you even from Texas lmaoo
You mean Swamp
Hotels cannot win in this situation. We get bitched out for not honoring reservations because we don't have power, and now these people are bitching that they honor reservations when they have no power. It's out of the hotel's hands, people! As shitty as it sounds, just wait out the power outages and do not buy panic buy a hotel room. You will most likely be overpaying now anyway
That's some lame excuse. Easy enough to list that a hotel is experiencing electricity issues on websites listing their rooms. Plus have you never heard of generators?
Funny you act as if the HOTELS are the victims. Their all full of 💩
@@johanmassy5290 I have heard of generators. Have you seen how expensive they are? Especially one or many that will have to power 100+ rooms? Are you aware many of these hotels are franchised by cheap foreign owners who don't even want to spend to fix minimum problems? Hopefully you're not expecting overworked and mostly underpaid employees to foot the bill for that.
You sound dumb AF.
@@tomsgamecorner1376 Thought your initial comment was too harsh on customers with valid complaints after reserving/ paying for a hotel room they learned had no electricity when their reservation was made.
Lack of electricity in a hotel automatically makes the
it unsafe to arrive or stay. I also doubt that the hardworking staff you referrenced was even able to maintain the level of cleanliness, sanitary & comfort guests had every right to expect so that doesn't excuse Owners or Managers for failing to be prepared with backup generators.
if average hotels can charge $200a night for a room than Owners/Investors can afford this precautionary expense which most Caribbean hotels (including small ones) take on or is it more feasible to take on the alternative of losing guests who cancel stays & worst yet the credibility of your hotels with your first time or loyal customer base?
Everyone needs to get off their high horse. No doubt hotels have taken damage during the hurricane. The hotel staff has been working night and day through the storm trying to get some rooms ready and take care of people but there's only so much you can do in this situation. Cut the hotels some slack. They're currently being pressed by increased costs and more demands than ever from the corporate overlords. If you don't like it sleep in your car for a few days. The hard working line men everyone is complaining about have been doing it for days. You can suck it up too
Wow protecting the scum bags by saying it’s ok to scam us 😂 anyone getting a hotel one is under the assumption it comes with power and ac cause how the hell did they get the reservation in the first place ? , no one should have to ask does it come with ac like this is a third world country
Scamming vs sucking up are two different types of business lol
@@duncanpatel472 🙌🙌
Temps in homes without power are getting up to 108°F in Texas. They booked a hotel to escape that. No one's paying $130 a night for more of the same.
If they've taken damage from the storm, and are in the same boat as the rest of us, why would they open their doors for business and take reservations? Just close up shop and stop scamming people.
It doesn't make any sense for us to PAY $200+ for a powerless hot room when we have that at home for free. The hotel knows they'd have no reservations if they were open about being powerless.
Cant habdle the heat, get out of tx
What Heat? It's actually nice and cool where I'm at.
