- A clip from Catherine Hardwick's film "The Nativity Story"(2006). The Shepherds have come to see the new born Saviour Jesus Christ. Mary and Joseph are also visited by the Magi who have been lead to Bethlehem by a bright star. They worship the new born child with gifts of gold, myrrh and incense.

I love how the last wise man fell to his knees and said "Myrrh. To honor thy sacrifice."
He knew what was coming for the child in the future. Hence, the reason why he looked hesitant to give his gift.
I feel him it’s some really heavy foreshadowing of what would happen eventually 😢

I can only imagine how heavy the third Magi's heart must have been when he presented the myrrh. The three of them knew that Jesus would one day die for them. For all of us.

Isn’t that a Beautiful statement. Our Blessed Mother truly is The First Disciple for she said “yes” to GOD’s Will. We are each given a gift to use for GOD’s Will. We must have humility.✝️🕊❤️

No other name, no other entity.
Fun fact: The actors of Joseph and Mary both starred in Star Wars movies. Keisha (Mary) played Queen Apailana in Revenge Of The Sith. Oscar (Joseph) played Poe Dameron in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars.

First time I watched this scene of the shepherds and magi arriving, I was at my mothers house and on her computer. I broke down crying.

Although they did not visit at the same time, it is the most beautiful and moving scene of the film which leads us to why Christ came. 'The Gift of Myrrh - to honour the sacrifice'.

I AM in tears, this isn’t an emotion, it’s the humbling and presence of the Holy Spirit, if your heart is tender enough to receive this it means you still have a chance to be saved if you are lost before it’s too late. Jesus is your answer

The old shepherds reaction gets me every time. He looks like he's had it rough and he can't even say anything.
I’ll never forget when I saw this movie in the theaters. The man next to me burst into tears when Gaspar said “The gift of myrrh…to honor thy sacrifice.” It was an experience never to be forgotten.
My heart feels so happy to see this scene, these people with such a pure heart, contemplating God our reincarnated heavenly father.

I love how the wise man who was really gung-ho, really excited, brought the gold ( straight forward, useful) the one who was more intellectual brought the frankincense ( philosophical) and that last guy who seemed to doubt, who did not want to come, reveals he understood more Than the other two. (I at least took his not wanting to journey to the star as a lack of faith at the beginning but now we realize he did not want to go because he knew the ending for the child of this prophesy and did not want to face its truth) his gift is the most important because when Mary goes with the other women to the tomb to use this unwelcome gift she finds the completion of the nativity.

It doesn't matter what country the Magi were from. The important thing is that they came from afar to worship the infant Savior! Notice their gifts each had a significant meaning for the life of Christ. Gold - because Jesus is King, Frankincense - because He is High Priest forevermore and Myrrh - bitter herb signifying the bitterness of the crucifixion He was to suffer.

The Three Magi were said to have come from Persia(Babylon) They heard of the Prophecy Of The Messiah from the teachings and writings of the prophet Daniel back when the Israelites were in Babylonian Captivity.

If you'd look closely at the three gifts, the appearance of the receptacles strikingly resemble key steuctures in modern day Jerusalem. The Gold resembles the Golden dome of the Dome of the Rock which is npw standing atop Temple Mount, site of the Temple of Jerusalem. The Frankincense resembles the belltower of the Anglican Church of Jerusalem, one of the tallest church belltowers in the Holy City.
The Myrrh resembles ( correct me if I am wrong) the dome atop the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, site of Golgotha and the Tomb, the site of the Resurrection.
Even the Magi who offered the myrrh has an agal that is strikingly different from the other 2. His white agal brings to mind a funeral shroud, much like the linen shroud that Christ+ will be wrapped in after His+ death.
We watch this movie every Christmas. I think it's good to remember why we have the holiday in the first place.
It is a great reminder but remember those two events are not related at all. Christmas is not the actual birth of Christ.

When I die I will wish to be buried with those items so I may present them to the lord as gifts.
This is absolutely wrong the wise man never made it to the place and saw Jesus when he was a baby. Some people need to learn the Bible and not take it out of context

The bible no where says three Magi, it says Wise Men and no where does it mention three. They theorize from the three gifts. Sad we do not stick to what the Bible says period. Daniel was a wise man and in Daniel 2:27 he makes a distinction between the Wise Men, Astrologers, magicians and soothsayers. Daniel and his companions weren't magi, short for magicians, they were Wise Men. Let the bible interpret the bible.
The wise men from the east did not arrive when Jesus was born, they came later. Mary was impure for seven days after the birth of Jesus and thirty-three days not completely pure. She had to stay at home that long. Forty days after Jesus was born, Mary and her family had to go to the temple to consecrate Jesus as the firstborn to God and to make cleansing offerings. The visit of the wise men and the flight to Egypt cannot have taken place beforehand. Perhaps Jesus was two years old when the wise men came, because Herod had killed all boys in Bethlehem who were not older than two years. But in spite of all that it is a beautiful movie.
