Clashes as antiwar protesters target Australian arms fair

- Police in Australia are being accused of using excessive force against people protesting in Melbourne against the war on Gaza and the role of the arms industry.
Human rights groups are calling for an inquiry into events outside a major defence exhibition on Wednesday.
Police have rejected the claims, as hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets for a second day.
Al Jazeera’s Danielle Robertson reports.

I watched raw footage from this protest and it was violent, they even attacked horses. The turnout was way lower than expected because most of us are sick of this.

Pity the protesters should be either at work or studying. Those that are waving flags that are not waving Australian ones should consider leaving our country. Australia is not involve military with the conflict in the Middle East. The convention where it is held has only strengthen the average Australian view that are not interested in it and rather annoyed being delayed going to work ect. To me it’s an event we’re protesters have nothing better to do but go along for the entertainment in harassing the police force. The last time we had protests this big was in the year 2000 when the World Economic Forum was held in the Jeffs Shed convention centre in Melbourne. Back then the protest was significantly more peaceful and was primarily against big mega corporations such as McDonald’s and Nike doing business in Australia and milking the Australian economy for their own profits. Pretty much their goal was for higher taxes and stricter business laws to be enforced against those foreign corporations or for those companies to be forced out of the country.
The protests through covid were way bigger than this one, but nobody admits this.

Most likely they were going for longer and had more overall attendees. Often those anti-lockdown protests would go on for several days non stop and sometimes even run for over a week sometimes by what I remember. However the 2000 protests and protests seem to have significantly higher simultaneous attendance numbers.
