HOGAN'S HEROES 💥 THEN AND NOW 2021

- Set in a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II, how could Hogan’s Heroe’s not be one of the most interesting sitcoms of all-time? A take-off on Billy Wilder's Stalag 17 in 1953, but with more humor and less drama. And with a strong 6 seasons from 1965 to ‘71, Hogan’s Heroes won two Emmy awards out of an impressive 11 nominations. It was an unlikely comedic triumph, as we watched Hogan and his fellow so-called-prisoners, do their best war efforts from inside, always assisted by the incompetence of the German camp leaders. It was full of great gags, countless tunnels dug, and really fine acting from the lot.
I’m Nostalgic Nick for DoYouRemember, and today we’re heading back to Stalag 13 and seeing what the cast of Hogan’s Heroes got into after the war ended. If you enjoy this video, please be sure to give it a thumbs up, and don’t forget to subscribe and click the bell for notifications. Alright, privates, let’s move out!

#HogansHeroes #TV #2021
John Banner and Werner Klemperer had some of the best lines ever written for the show and their acting was just spot on brilliant.
Rest in peace to all those wonderful actors that made Hogan's Heroes probably one of the best shows of all time it's honestly nice to watch the old episodes still on MeTV it doesn't really matter how many times I've seen the same episode I still get a big kick out of it cuz that's how funny the show really is still to this day?
I grew up watching Hogans Heroes and I absolutely loved the show. I continually watch the re-runs of Hogans Heroes to this day.
Shows like this and McHales Navy are unforgettable.
Schultz was the hands-down favorite for all of us when we were kids. He was the one we would imitate, every show. You know, like true love is.
Idiotic, ignorant and foolish..DON'T talk for other people
"I see nothing!" "I know nothing!"
I can (and do) watch those episodes over and over again in MeTV.
The fact that Otto Klemperer wasn’t just glossed over, and even his image appeared, is a credit to your narrative’s integrity. I know it’s not terribly popular to talk about orchestral conductors in the context of popular television shows, but Otto Klemperer remains so iconic to every orchestral music lover, he is still more popular within this world today, than his wonderfully talented son is.
The humor in this show still holds up today. This show is one of my favorites.
All gone now. Rest in peace. The show is still on and I've watched it at least 6 times now and plan to keep watching until they stop.
Love Hogan's Heroes , one of my fondest childhood memories , watching this show with my dad..
Me too. My Dad, Mom and Brother.
Who could forget the show, I have the whole series, thank God for show's and all sitcoms from the 60s 70 s And 80 s
I enjoy the shows so much more than anything they have out today
I have the whole series also.😊👍
@@kimikatok iphone Kno no
No lie! Today shows like Hogan's heroes, all in the family, Sanford and son, and the Jeffersons wouldn't even make it to air. Too many over-sensirive people looking for something to be offended about....
Me too.
Sergeant Schultz was so lovable and funny. He rounded out the show. His eyes showed so much expression.
HE KNEW NUTINK!!
Yes he had a bit of a Rodney dangerfield vibe about him
All Schultz wanted to do was to navigate the war alive and avoid being sent to the Russian front. He had a live and let live attitude and basically had a good heart. John Banner played that character brilliantly
Schultz was my favorite character.
So glad he will live forever in reruns.
@@ironman6432 I would have paid good money to have seen Rodney Dangerfield cast in Hogan's Heroes as Schultz's brother or something. Or as a mirror image character: "I see everything!"
I used to see Robert Clary at the Simon Wiesenthal Center in the early 1980’s in Los Angeles as he informed school children about his experience during the Holocaust.
I miss my youth when I came home from school to watch this comedy about World War II.
I know, there used to be something besides propaganda to watch. It wasn't even a big deal to be home on a Friday night as a kid, TGIF. Now, nothings worth watching 7 days a week. If it weren't for certain cartoons for my kids I wouldn't even bother having cable.
Hogan's Heroes ( 1965~1971 ) >>> Such fine actings in this Nazi Satire comedy! Felt so sad for the terrible death suffered by Bob Crane! 🙏 Thank You So Much DoYouRemember Channel for this Hogan's Heroes cast tribute! 🕯🌷🌿🌏💜🕊
I love Hogan's Heroes!! Even today 👍
My 17 yr old daughter and I recently got into watching Hogan's Heroe's. I remember this show as a kid as it was one of my Dad's favorite's. We Love Schultz and often quote "I see nothiiiiing, I hear nothiiiiing. They don't make them like this anyone.
They sure don't
It's on MeTV every night
That is so very true I have all six seasons of Hogan's Heroes on dvd
LOVE this show!!! I still watch it every day even though I have the DVD's. Awesome casting but Richard Dawson was my favorite. ❤❤❤
On Hogan's Heroes I have three favorite characters, Col Hogan, Sgt Kintchloe and Sgt Carter. I have every episode and I can watch it over and over again cause it's so funny 🤣
Same here!
Was a fan during its airing. Loved all 6 seasons and was saddened when it ended. Shultz is by far my favorite, just think he stole every scene he was in. That lovable frenchy was a close second. Hell, I loved them all !!!!
Schultz also stole the spotlight from Bob Crane during an 'I Love Lucy' episode where after Crane and Lucy duck after an explosion, there's Schultz standing in the doorway, covered in plaster and Crane blurts out: Oh no, Schultz! You're in the wrong war!
Wow what an amazing story about Clary. I had no idea. Well done sir.
Schultz was my favorite. I still watch the show on ME TV
I am from Germany and I love it so mutch. In Germany the translation was often not the same text as in the USA. Many things was different. Klink often mentioned his housekeeper Mrs Kalinke for example. Only later did I find out that this did not even occur in the original. Each of the actors also spoke in a different dialect.
I have read that the German dubbing was well-written and very funny. Did they retain John Banner's Austrian accent? He was a native German speaker from Austria.
I bought the complete series set of Hogans Heroes, I wouldn't give them up for anything. I also purchased Robert Clary's autobiography book. it is so full of information about his life when he was captured by the germans & how he became a regular on Hogan's Heroe's
Wow- I have literally seen every episode-bought the dvd's of all season sometime ago-and still today watch it comes on Sunday and Monday and Louie was my favorite, especially knowing he was a true survivor of the same war that he was making fun of. Much respect to him( Robert Clary)
Hogan's Heros was a classic, great show, great cast!
I always liked this show. Just like a couple of other people here, I have the complete series on DVD.
I have not watched TV in over a year!! When I did, I loved Hogan's Hero's!!!! I want to watch it all again!!
Moved to Oz as a kid & hadn’t seen much American tv until I moved there but will always remember after school in the eighties watching this brilliant show & loving it .arrrr memories!
Loved Hogans Heroes. Still do..Schultz and Col. Klink have always been my fav’s…😂
When I was a young girl I was fascinated by the little French guy. I just loved him.
I have the series and I followed pretty much all of them after Hogan's. Werner had some friends here in my hometown of Vidor Texas and he came here once or twice to visit them. He also did several films with a few of his castmates: The Wicked Dreams of Paula Shultz, Operation Eichman and also Ship of Fools with Vivien Leigh and Judgement at Nuremberg...a really great actor...
Robert Clary’s reactions to the various nazis on the show always seemed to have a certain authenticity to them. His anger toward them seemed honest and deeply felt. Now I know why.
Jesus.... had a number tattooed on him and was at Buchenwald.... WOW ! How do you work on a set with swastikas there without ripping them apart.....?
@@csnide6702 Apparently it was a challenge for him but he developed close friendships with other Jewish actors John Banner (Schultz) and Leon Askin (Burkhalter) and once quipped 'Who could play Nazis (and embarrass them) better than Jews? We saw everything.'
Banner, it is worth noting, publicly defended his character saying that Schultz was the embodiment of those Germans who never embraced the Nazis and resisted their evil, instead remaining good and helping the Resistance, Jews, and the Allies whenever possible. In a show of support for Robert Clary, Banner also wore long sleeve shirts throughout the series as he had also lost his entire family to the Holocaust and Leon Askin lost his parents after he was sent to America.
@@csnide6702Another thing, Clary died on the 16th November, this year, 2022.
The thing that might have helped Clary, was the majority of the cast were Jewish. It was one of the best jokes played anyone who hated Jews, yet they, the haters, liked the show not knowing of the Jews in the cast. To me that was wonderful. Had to be one of the best shows in the 60's. Along with Star Trek, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Sadly there is not many shows made anymore of the quality of those 60's shows.
I know I'm late to the party here but the last photo used for Werner is Leon Askin (General Buckhalter).
Of course, you know that the last image of Klemperer was really the actor who played General Burhkhalter
I thought so, too.
I can assure you General Burhkhalter, No one has ever escaped from Stalag 13.
Yeah, his name was Leon Askin.
It's on MeTV every night
My favorite General Burkhalter line... "Kink! You will marry my sister, Gertruda!"
I remembered watching an an interview with Werner Klemperer where he'd mentioned being in Germany and finding out that "Hogan's Heroes" was a massive hit over there and being very surprised by this revelation
To this day I watch reruns of the show. I have difficult time selecting a favorite as they all were literally awesome!
Great memories of Hogans Hero's
I had the honor and privilege of running into Robert Clary at a restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona. We chatted for a few minutes about Hogan’s Heros and about his artwork. Robert and his party got up and left the restaurant. But to my surprise, Robert came back into the restaurant with a copy of his book. He sat next to me and autographed it with an inscription. Very nice and talkative guy.
I've seen all6 seasons at least 4 times lol 😂
In 1966, my two best friends and I dressed up as Colonel Klink, Sergeant Schultz and Colonel Hogan. Stuart's dad brought back lots of stuff from Germany after WW2 making our little photo shoot possible. Still have the pictures.
I wish they would have included Leon Askin & Howard Caine, as well. Hogan's Heroes was my all-time favorite show as a kid. I was really bummed when I found out that Bob Crane was murdered. As an adulty, I sort of understood how that happened....
I was an Army wife in the mid 70s living in Berlin. If I remember correctly there was only 1 American channel on our little TV. I remember watching Hogan's Heroes on that TV which I thought was really weird since I was in Berlin.
And you never left the base/fort.
@@markshaw2009 What do you mean. Were you there too.
I still watch hogan's heros today. It's aired on ME TV on dish network @ 10 o'clock at night Monday to Friday and on Monday morning around 1 am on Sundance tv. Great show one of my favorites even when I was growing up. Now I'm 61 yrs old and still watch it.
I remember watching Hogan as a kid it was on at 8:00 o'clock on Friday we would go out when my dad got off work we would go to the shops then have something to eat as be home in to.e to watch Hogan and gang. Loved them all. The cast was great that is what made it a hit.
I remember the show well. I didn't like Hogan, but I really liked everyone else. My favorites Colonel Klink and Sergeant Schultz.
I loved this show!!!!!!! It was just classic. I have the whole series too
Several years ago I bought the complete series on DVD. My family has a tradition of watching two episodes over dinner, thanks to MeTV, and we have started over at the first episode at least 20 times.
Me tv always mention HH but they never Show it
@@olgabagley3564
Hello Olga. We watch Hogan on MeTV twice each evening at 10p & 10:30p week-days. I love Schultzy, and wish he was my grandpapa 🤗.
My favorite was Sergeant Schultz. I still watch the reruns on MeTV almost every nite.
I was 10 when the show debuted... yes, watched and watched and watched them all over and over again
Thank you! For this video. You gave truth but moreso respect where it was due. These actors were a great social influence for generations.
I enjoyed every moment of the show’s !!
Has been on rotation as my nighttime dinner show for 20+ years...
In 1965,when "Hogan's Heroes" went on the air, I was 19 & in the military!
Since it was only 20 years after WWII, I predicted that a show depicting American
soldiers essentially having a 'good time' in a German prison camp with inept Germans
guarding them, would 'bomb'! I thought that any living ex-POW's would collectively
protest the show! However, I was wrong & the show turned out to be a big hit! Go figure!
Still watch this show on Metv. Love the show and it keeps my mind off the crap thats going on in the world.
🙏
I really enjoy Hogan’s Hero’s, but, as to who is my favorite, they all! Each brought something special to the show! I especially loved when Larry Hovis dressed up as Hitler. He had the mannerisms and voice right down! May they all RIP!
My favorite character is Schultz. He is so lovable and kindhearted.
My favorite show when I was a kid! Loved all the characters except the nazis, of course.
Clary is the only one left. Love this series. I have the DVD’s
Kenneth Washington who replaced Ivan in the final season is still alive I think...
Yes he isn't dead, as are many others who have no credit. Nina Talbot is one. Many of the fill scenes could be not dead. 8-2-2021
@@timothyball7502 A lot of the fill characters endured some real tragedy afterward. Ann Prentiss went to prison, tried to knock off her dad, etc. A real whack job. Brenda Benet, who was in a couple HH episodes, committed suicide. Joyce Jamison, who was in a couple episodes, died of suicide. Claudine Longet, the singer, was in an HH episode. She "accidentally" gunned down her boyfriend, Olympic skiier Spider Sabich. Susanne Cramer, who played one of the two girls who tried to trick the Heroes into being captured in the 1966 HH episode, "The Flame Grows Higher", died from pneumonia in 1969.
Just an amazing group of actors, one of the funniest shows ever. and still is!
They certainly were and as we sit here today , October 14th, 2021 ...only 2 remain.
Robert Clary of course ...but also an actor many forget was on the show.
Kenneth Washington, who replaced Ivan Dixon after he quit the series. He played Richard Baker who basically did the same job as Kinch.
That fact is probably one of the biggest reasons the show ended in that final 1970 - 1971 season. Still, a finale would have been nice.
Washington went on to be in the cast of the police drama "Adam 12".
Love this show
You didn’t mention John Banner’s last role was on the Partridge Family. He was the fake psychic who needed to raise money.
Oh wow
I know nothing! Nothing!
Just like "real psychics"
Humm Don't remember that .
@@mackermaldrill2656 🤣🤣🤣🤣lol love it.
One of my favorite shows. 👍❤🇺🇸
I contacted Robert Clary several years ago about a record I found of him singing "Gimme a Little Kiss". I offered to send him the record. He was very gracious but refused it saying he had a copy of it already.
Crane was a kinko! My old boyfriend’s Dad said “Crane was bulldozed” instead of bludgeoned. A classic line
That was NOT a picture of Kemplerer before he died. that was Leon Askin, General Burkhalter.
Yes I have watched all of the series and have the fool box set of the series i remember as a young boy whatching Hoggins Heroes on TV when it first started i Love all the Actors especially John Banner and ❤
My favorite actor was Sgt Schultz, I often wondered what he did when the war ended and all his buddies went back home.
Isn't it soooo sad that there's not a good variety of comedy sitcoms that will make everyone laugh?
Was born in 1951 and watching tv shows evolve thru the 50's, 60's and 70's was truly awesome.
Nowadays all there's to choose from is: "CRAP!"
I SOOOOO MISS THE GOOD'OL GLORY DAYS..........
I watched Hogans's Heroes as a kid. I have to say John Banner and Werner Klemperer made me laugh the most. I even still remember one of John Banner's lines. I'm not sure how the question went, but he was asked to look down at something specific, and say what he saw. His response was "I can't even see the floor". To this day, I remember roaring at the line....And I was a kid!!! 🤣
"Hogan's Heroes" is one of the funniest shows of all time.
One of the greatest shows of all time! Big fan!
I still watch it and love the program.
That show was one of my favorites on tv and I liked all the characters. The actors who played Hockschtetter and Burkhalter made me laugh when Hogan and his crew got the best of them. I was really surprised that all the actors who played Germans were also Jewish in real life. It's too bad that only Robert Clary is left out of that terrific cast but it's good to see him going on in his life doing things that make him happy. I've always wondered how good a cook he really was.
You should watch it again he Mention Robert Clary
He was/is an outstanding cook in real life; a gourmet chef, in fact. John Banner's wife was a master chef: probably a main reason he got so heavy.
@@olgabagley3564 He meant that Robert Clary is the only cast member left alive.
My favourite was always colonel Klink & Sgt. Schultz. No one else could come close. I can't find anyone funnier.
I find it amazing how many died of cancer. I also did not know that so many had agreed to do this show being so close to the horrors of Nazi Germany. Speaks to something in me knowing that. Makes me want to re-watch the series.
Col. Klink, said he would only do the show if they made him and the only German's stupid.
You have to be a pretty strong person to survive the Concentration Camps, then star in a sitcom about Concentration Camps
The series was set in a POW camp.
Agree! That era is a time we should all learn from right now.
@@MrLeoni2 Yes that is correct, but it's still a sitcom about Nazis.
@@timebandito4278 Actually, it's a show set in a German POW camp, with the prisoners secretly fighting against the Germans, some of whom were Nazis.
@@MrLeoni2 Its still a sitcom about Nazis
A few inaccuracies. 1. Crane never married Cynthia lynn, he had an affair with her while she was married. He married Sigrid Valdis in real life, she's buried next him. 2 You showed Leon Askin when you talked about Klemperer dying. 3 Crane was murdered by his buddy Carpenter, they found Crane's brain matter on the rental car passenger side door panel that Carpenter had rented but it was too late to admit as evidence since he was acquitted, other than that, you did a decent job.
Why did Cranes buddy killed him for ?
@@helenharris1601 This is just a rumor I heard, but that Bob wanted to clean up his act so that meant no more wild parties for him and his buddies and his friend took exception to that. Again this is just a rumor.
@@josevega2255 That’s just crazy .
She should Not be buried with Bob beings she had a hand in. Murder
@@josevega2255 More specifically, friends and witnesses said that Crane viewed Carpenter as a hanger-on and he wanted to break off the friendship. So, it was speculated that Carpenter killed Crane, although Carpenter was acquitted years later.
Awesome Clary is still around and amazing he was a Holocaust survivor along with the others who experienced the terror of Nazism personally. They were all great actors, which explains why the show is still popular today. Impossible to pick one character as a favorite. Did not know there was a 2nd rendition of The Donna Reed Show with Bob Crane. Sad how so many entertainers have passed from cancer Cigarette smoking was a prominent thing in many episodes of many shows although HH seemed to be an exception.
Schultz and Hogan were my favorite actors
I have the entire series on dvd and watch it often.
Sgt Schultz was by far my favorite as he was like my nutty uncle growing up.
My favorite all of them great video
For Christmas many years ago my sister give me a Schultz and Klink bobble head. Still have them on my book shelf.
That wasn't Klink's pic at 4:50,, it was General Berkhalter,,
Richard Dawson as Newkirk is my favorite.
I really enjoyed Hogan's Heroes. Perhaps, Sgt. Schultz was my favorite with his standard phrase, "I see Nothing!"
At 62 years old, I have been watching this great show since I was 8 years old or thereabouts. I thought John Banner was the greatest actor on this show. I like the fact that the early shows were and still are, in black and white.
I have seen every episode of the program and even have a DVD set of it too. Even my cb handle was hoganshero for years and use it also as one of my email addresses. They were all great actors and I miss them very much.
I love them all and thank you
All of Them, Great Cast ! ! !
Sergeant Schultz was my favorite Klink also and yes I watched them all .
An early episode has hovis hanging upside down and my god is he cut. Those abs are amazing.
He was in tremendous shape.
i watch the reruns every night love the show
This show is Awesome ‼️ They'll never see another show like this ❗👍😊😊❤️
I really love them all. Without the chemistry the show many not have worked. I got a bunch of laughs out of it. However, I never could follow them because I was only a kid a the time watching it.
Richard Dawson married a contestant from the Family Feud, He was a true Gentleman and a Loving Husband
Perfect to play the sleazy host of the tv show within a movie "The Running Man" .
My favourite was SS Major Hochstedder. He was really one of the best on the show.
KLINK! Who iss dis man!
All of them great great show awesome video thanks
I still watch it every night.
This started when I was 10 years old and ended about two days before 16th birthday. So no doubt it's from my childhood. My mom and I watched it but my dad hated it because it was to far away from reality. I have good memories of my mother and I watching Hogan's Heroes I wish I could go back because both my parents are dead.
How could you have a favorite it was an amazing funny show
As a child I never missed an episode 8:30pm every night in Akron ,Ohio.
Great review...so much I never knew......I grew up watching this show......appreciated.
