If you buy a home in a community called Rolling Hills, you can't be too surprised when the hillside starts rolling . . . just sayin'
Came here to say this, damn.
@@volcryndarkstar3283 same....
@@mikemorris4409 Man are we late!
😂
Or sometimes rocking.
Damn insurance companies are always coming up with loopholes not to pay!
Read the fine print. Always
sneagy bastards
There was no loophole. He was aware of the DIC and chose not to buy it. Educate yourself and look at all options prior to any investment, which a home is. He took a chance and lost.
Not a loophole you ignorant moron. He knew that he was not covered. Do you people ever pay attention to the details? It was clearly stated. You are part of this countries problems...never listen...damn
Isn't that the truth!!
what is the purpose of insurance?
insurance companies and the banks are ripping off consumers.
Insurance is legalized extortion.
he wasn't ripped off. if has FORCED to pay for DIC, it would be a problem.
Bad government regulates both, enjoy.
Well he gambled it would not slide.
Because people are trying to get super fat before the 💩 hits the fan.
Always be humble, compassionate, and grateful for what you have because you don't know what tomorrow gonna bring. Now your house might be gone but you still have your life. ❤️
Well said
Insurance is a Scam Corrupt ASF
That’s why he didn’t pay for the correct insurance. It’s not hidden, they tell you that.
How?
People that build homes on the edge of the canyon should not complain when the homes sink!!
Yea, huh!
A lot of these homes were built on top of a dump. So naturally when the contents of the dump settle, your house is going down with it.
Not a year goes by without Ca. Landslides and horrific wildfires.
So why are the homeowners surprised?
There is a toxic land in Sacramento that they just started to let be built on…how many years before people get cancers and say “we didn’t know this was built on toxic jet fuel chemicals!”

Karma.
Some states have tornadoes annually, others have hurricanes. What's your point?
Why don't California do something about these big fires before they start? Such as a wide break point with no trees where the fire can burn itself out?
Or every so much acreage install a water tower that will spray water if it gets so hot???
And insurance companies should be required to make sure homeowners in situations like this know that they need other insurances to cover the home. Having said this, there's a certain amount of responsibility that we need to take. If you live near a volcano you'll probably need special coverage. The ocean, flood insurance. A fault line, earth shaker coverage. Common sense people.
it sounds like he was informed and at the time he thought...the cost was horrendous. he knew he just didnt want to pay for the risk.
It's clear that he knew he would need the additional coverage...YOU ARE A MORON
They told him the risk, he gambled.
Is there volcano insurance?
Sure. We r about to learn what insurance companies have been factoring in for a long time
Global warming is going to destroy their profits & they r not equipped to deal w this many extreme weather events
FEMA was defunded by the GOP & will eventually have 0 left

We can't cover you because it has to be Friday the 13th, a black cat has to walk in front of your home and Jason has to take his mask off before midnight.
I once had FULL coverage on my new truck. Was hit head on by a drunk driver. The other driver limped into Mexico. I was not covered by (loophole) Uninsured drivers insurance, so State Farm did not pay any medical bills, Paid the dealer what was left on my payments (2 yrs.) The company I worked for, DOD contractor, cut my insurance. No ambulance chancing lawyers (tv ads) would take the case. Claiming DOD had deep pockets. Thinking your fully covered gives a FALSE sense of security when the insurance company can come up with bull shit excuses. There is no law to stop these criminal enterprises when they fail to pay. The insurance industry has EVERY Republican and Democrat by the balls in donations to keep Americans from being covered in all situations. Loopholes called donations. Nothing changes criminal insurance companies continue to make excuses..
Read the super duper long fine fine print. Including the billions of disclaimers.
1🎯🎯% Goddamn right they do. It is a racket, plain and simple. *Protection money* = ORGANIZED CRIME. "You better pay us, or else..." If a bunch of ethnic neighborhood guys do the same thing, it's a RICO case. When corporations who make political donations do the SAME thing (auto, home, HEALTH!) it is quite literally business as usual and another quarter of record breaking profits for the board members. FK all them and FK that system. Truth be told, I have much more respect for the hoods. With them, at least if you do pay, they have your back.
...the cost was horrendous...
Somebody should look at the geological survey of that area. Rolling Hills is the first hint that it is not stable to build on the side of those hills.
Everyone in that area knows it’s a possibility. My parents moved near there in 1959. Everyone has always known. (My parents bought a house far from the canyon edge).
Right?
But they all know, just like those in Malibu know every 20plus yrs there are wildfires and act shocked when nature does it’s thing.
I am sorry for the people who are losing their homes! I will pray for them. Ironic that it’s called Rollinghills
If only they had some kind of warning that the hills were not stable.
Earthquakes too. Rocking and Rolling. I will pray also. Heck. It's free. Why not?
"The cost for D.I.C. insurance is horrendous". So, how much did he save by not getting it?
Probably broke even...
His house was probably paid for as he is an older, possibly retired gentleman. So now he must start from square one.
@@philspd473 how did the guy break even? He bought it 13 years ago for many millions no doubt...now he has a pile of rubble to have hauled off and probably paying a mortgage on it as well
@@neckarsulme He bought it in 2008 at a bargain. 2008 was the best time to buy a home. He probably bought it for around 600K. These are two-bedroom 2000 SQ Feet / connected townhomes, not mansions. Zillow search. Pear Tree Ln, Palos Verdes
@ParchedGoat1 the op's question is "how much did he save by not buying the insurance" how much does the special insurance cost?
There were 2 small quakes in the Rolling Hills area in the month of July 2023. One was due west of Rolling Hills and the other was due east.
They have my sympathy. No one should have to lose their home.
I still can't move past everyone being shocked that a place called "Rolling Hills" wouldn't have issues with homes rolling off their hills.
Rolling hills is living up to its name.....
Then they can sue for false advertisement because the hills are no longer rolling?
😂
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"
I wonder when it stops moving if they'll be able to salvage anything left of their houses.
I thought the reporter was the "Don't squeeze the Charmin" guy.
I know this area very well. So heartbroken for those that lost their homes
Beautiful street and wonderful homeowners.
Wonder why they named it rolling hills?
🤣🤣🤣
These insurance companies are so grimy you pay these companies to cover your losses but then after paying them all this money they say “ oh you don’t have landslide coverage “ now the auto insurance companies will say “ do you have door handle or mirror coverage “ it’s not included in full coverage what a scam
It’s not the insurance, it’s the builders. They know it’s a high risk build but they build sell and stick all the problems with the owner, which is why the insurance companies have the supplemental insurance cause they know the builders do this high risk stuff and costs them tons of money.
He states he knew about the extra coverage offered for landslides, but that it was too expensive. 😢
Like me, i can afford a luxury car. But do i wanna pay $300 for an oil change??? Hell NO....that is why i drive a Honda and a Chevy.
If he couldn't afford the proper insurance needed, he should not have purchased a house on a hillside.
Exactly
Rolling Hills...living up to its nsme
It’s 12 homes, why would the governor issue a state of emergency for this small landslide? Only in Cali. 🤦♂️
Cause them MF are filthy rich folks that's why
State funds for the rich who didn’t buy insurance
Yup. That’s California
Losses due to fire, wind, or even many earthquakes result in a total loss of a home. Here these residents also lost their land. They cannot rebuild. It is unlikely that their property has any value at all.
Insurance companies are the shadiest business in America.
How do you tell the earth to stop?
Wow, we've never seen any landslides in earthquake-prone Cali before this. Jeepers!
😂
This land is moving because of a water main break. Go to the water company to get the cost of the house
Good lord. 25% deductible!? 1 mil home. $250,000 before any claim can be made plus insurance premiums. Better to just not buy on a hill. Imagine paying a 10-15 k deductible on your simple avg. car after an accident.
I think those homes cost a whole lot MORE than $1M. 😢
@@lynnheffron6905 Yeah, I'm sure they do.
Why on earth anyone would build his house in a place named Rolling Hills. You got to be weak of mind
Really.devastating, the entire peninsula is eroding.
HOW , o o o o HOW CAN SOMEBODY WITH SO MUCH MONEY BE SO SO UNINFORMED …
Only 13 years ago he bought his house … my o my , we have been coming to Reseda since 1995. The first drive around the coast and we saw the danger of landslides and homes falling into the valleys .
HOW THE HECK DID THIS FELLOW NOT KNOW ABOUT LANDSLIDES ????
You really can only feel sorry a little bit for such lack of understanding !!!!
I've never heard of land settlement or collapses in coastal California, especially in the Palos Verdes/Portuguese Bend area!
Houses rolling down the hills in Rolling Hills. There's a good nursery rhyme hidden somewhere in all this.
"There wasn't that kind of landslide before?" Are you kidding me? How about the collapse of Sunken City on the San Pedro side of PV in 1929, or the collapse of Paseo del Mar in 2011 just north of Sunken City, also in PV?
Exactly, how can they not think any house on a hill is prime to slide over time?
Yorba Linda in Orange County had a similar problem a few decades ago, probably due to being built on an old dump site.
In Florida, if your home hit by hurricane every 15 years without insurance, you saved some money.
So sorry for those millionaires
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂
A guy living in a two-bedroom place is a millionaire? Just because you live in a million-dollar townhome does not mean you are a millionaire? You have to pay it off, bud
@@bryanbohlken7653 bud.
Building a house on a mudslide. Oh yeah...I feel your pain.
I've been an idiot before as well.
Hurts.
Boy He didn't buy the " Expensive land slide insurance ( that he knew about ) I bet he feels just like a DIC now
Apparently these homeowners need a little better investment advice. TOO MUCH MONEY AND you must check out the Area yourself and see it's not eroding or history of land slides NOT LIKE THE CONTRACTORS DID. AND WHAT ABOUT RAIN? UNDERWATER ERODING THE FOUNDATION
That is a bum deal, but California homeowners should be aware of things like that.. you throw a couple a million o a home have to think about the lay of the land. Those are dirt mountains not solid rock.
DID SHE INFORM HOMEOWNERS OF THE NECESSARY INSURANCE?
Is this in San Diego or L.A.?
This is so typical. "Well. you got insurance, butin this case it is not covered..' Those poor people. Watching their homes fall into a hole and then being told, "Sorry, man - it's on you.." BS..
Poor people my ass.
However, he stated he knew about the extra coverage for landslides. But that it was too expensive.
Unfortunately he gambled and the house always wins.
They'll rebuild. The next time it happens they'll be just as shocked and confused.
The outcropping of land is former ocean floor pushed up in the miocene era.
It is wanting to roll back to the ocean where it came from.
Gravity is constant.......what else is there to do?
I'd like to see it become a dog park.
He might have thought about WHY the supplemental insurance was so expensive, with a 25% deductible.
Yeah, it's totally crazy how the cost of different insurances are high based on the risk and size of possible loss... Kind of like insurance companies know a thing or two.
Rolling Hills
Now there's ur sign
That title OMG LMFAO. I do hope the residents of Rolling HIlls aren't waiting for the Earth to stop moving. I mean, hopefully the Earth will not stop moving for many billions of years. ffs Fox.
This is only the beginning it's not going to stop
Boooy the Insurance Companies always have a "Reason" Not to pay!! 🤨🤔
I've got to say that subdivision has a really appropriate name.😃 it makes me think of Arrested Development where the subdivisions name was "Sudden Valley".😂😂😂
Come on, if there is a hill and a house there is a risk 10 days from now to 100’s of hears from now.
How do those homeowners not know this?
Put a match to it before they put caution tape around it .Fire is coveted by insurance.
Now that they don't have a home to insure, will the insurance company refund what they paid for the rest of the year for other (regular) coverage???
The easy comment is, "you got to be crazy to build/buy on the hill side in California". I was born and raised in California, and two things I learned were: "what goes up, slides down" and "everything is living in a tinderbox in the summer".
Been like this since forever out there.
I don't know how much a DIC rider was going to cost per year. The "smart play" would have been to bank the "excessive" rider premium every year... a flavor of self-insurance.
In other words he should have been putting 10% his home value in the bank every year. If he didn't have it, "you can't play".
I don't like insurance companies. They screw me hard with auto insurance where I live. I flip them every three years now.
I do not want my Insurance companies doing business in these "high risk" conditions.
Why should my home insurance company support "hillside happiness" when most people can't afford the entry fee to get there?
The earth never stops moving
Rolling hills gotta roll.
I looked on Google for sinkholes in ca.. that kinda gives an explanation. Landslide..? It I am sure a nightmare for the neighborhood.
Just remember full coverage doesn’t really mean full coverage
Escape from LA.😢
Now known as Sliding Hills. Slippery when wet.
Try this. Cut those trees and build you a one room cabin from them. Dirt floor, no running water. SMH.
Rolling Hills... what did they expect?
Carole King song: "I feel the earth move under my feet, I feel the sky come tumbling down..."
Glad to see, no one was hurt! Regarding your homes… Don’t worry, rich people, governor, Newsom, will take money from the middle class to reimburse you!
🙏
Wondered why they named the place Rolling Hills. I think they meant don't build a house there.
Never happened before?
Did u hear that , a cracking sound Last nite😢
Now that's strange..isn't it!? Living in a community called "Rolling Hills" and the "Hills Rolling" away your home. There can be no denying the power in Names and Words! Remember to think twice where you ch👀se to call home. I sure hope the earth stops moving for them! JUST Couldn't imagine this!
And castles made of sand fall into the sea eventually.
Could he/they go after the approving agencies, the developer, the engineers, and anyone involved who knew, or should have known about the land movement potential? I told a professional association over twenty years ago that all structural fills were failures waiting to happen. There was no cheering. I SUSPECT, but do not know, how much, if any, fill was involved in this case. Public records should tell the tale.
It's a known fact there is a landslide in that area.
The developer, engineer and contractors are in deep sh.t. the owners will go after them. May god have mercy of them if they find out faulty geotechnical engineering studies and/or insuficient engineering, design, and construction measure to prvent the landslided. An idiot will know that any structure built on slopes require lots of careful studies, planning and specualty costruction
He/they. 😂😂
Your entire world view can be extrapolated from this single statement and I find that hilarious.
Everyone with a pulse knows the peninsula is a landlside zone. Just south east of this neighborhood there are literal acres and acres that are not considered bulidable because of previous landslides. There are folks still trying to sell land there (and for outrageous prices) with an itty bitty disclaimer to do your due diligence before the sale.
Wonder what the geological surveyor says. Offshoot of seismic activity in the outlying area possibly. Landslide being extra coverage is laughable.
Next time, buy the house in the valley below the volcano.
Its just getting started..
Locals call that the slide area
You violated a very important law.
THE LAW OF GRAVITY.
Another Darwin award.
Why do people move to a place named " Rolling Hills" ?
Now I see why people are moving out of California
You don't need insurance until you need insurance. Buy a house on a cliff, cliff 💩 happens 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Insurance companies love their rhetoric. Think you're insured? Just wait, they'll find a way to screw you and keep every dime you gave them.
What if it didn't stop moving!? 😬 Now the houses near this neighborhood are not as valuable anymore!
Let the buyer beware
Them ininsurance people are scammers
Rolling hills is not a misnomer
Insurance companies dont really have enough money to cover all their customers so they have to make sure everything is not covered from the start. Life is a gamble but a business doesnt want to gamble with their business. I wish everyday that we could live better but everybody doesnt work together enough to change things for the better. Maybe AI can help us with this. Humans are too insecure. The wealthy insurance companies feel so strongly about maintaining wealth or increasing it that they compartmentalize us into groups of things or even animals they dont like. An insurance company shouldnt say "we cant help you after all these years because your pen didnt predict what you needed help with, maybe you shouldve prayed for a fire since you did mark that down". Seeing this as a real thing is absolute proof of the peril we live through when we trust eachother to run a society. We were the future once. Now we will fight eachother more ruthlessly than ever to provide happiness to our families in an AI assisted world....where there is no assurance. Free learning for the AI and massive college debt for the humans.
To error is human, to forgive divine
Don't worry its going to get worse... have a sliding day!
So hw come they never tells the homeowners about this DIC,The Insurers And These Insurances agents are wicked not to assist these homeowners
Insurance is such a fraud
How about feeling pain & oppression for 400 plus yrs?
To say that there was not a problem when he bought the house so he did not feel the need for the insurance, well most people who have had homes destroyed by fire never saw a problem either, but bought insurance just in case.
