@Phantassm awesome. herzog's nosferatu is one of my favorite movies. the thought that such incredible images were caught on film amazes me. the sun creating a chemical reaction that captures the temporary beauty createdby a team of skilled artists. another good nosferatu movie is shadow of the vampire, a humorous take on murnau's movie. it has malkovitch, dafoe, and elwes!
Omg thank you. I thought I was going crazy.. Every critic seems to love this movie. I was honestly excited to go see this. Thought Eggers would do it justice. But apparently "I just don't understand it". 😂 There's a difference between slowburn, and plain boring. And this movie to me was just boring. Because there was nothing else in it for me. It wasn't iconic, not interesting. Characters I couldn't care less about and the count himself (although more accurate to book) was not of iconic design like the classic movie. There's probably an audience for it but imo this franchise needs a different approach. Once again appreciate the review! 👌
I've lost my right to choose the next 3 movies when we go to the cinema because of Robert Eggers. I love the silent film Nosfaratu & the 1970s version but this wasn't it. I just heard of Eggers recently & to prep for Nosfaratu, I purchased The Lighthouse & The Witch. All of his movies look good, I like the tone, but they are BORING & WEIRD (not in a good way). My wife & I feel asleep in Nosfaratu. When I woke up buddy appeared to bang his wife's corpse...which made me think about that weird mermaid sex scene in The Lighthouse... People were laughing at the ending scene...a young man stood up & yelled "WTF was that"? The entire audience laughed which was a cool little moment.
I just watched 3 rave reviews of this movie and can say this massive divide in what we like in a movie is happening a lot in modern society. I have no idea why movies are reviewed like this nowadays but its fascinating to try to understand it.
It started with some great imagery, but the script was mostly a melodrama. Melodrama is like exposition, but for emotions instead of plot points. We don't want to HEAR how people are feeling; we want to FEEL it. Also, the cool imagery quickly devolved into pretentious tripod shots void of storytelling power.
Have you reviewed the original Mike? Great movie. I remember films like Interview with the vampire & Coppola's Dracula being great entertainment value. I might check this one just out of curiosity.
Reviewer complains of people who spend 20 minutes apologizing for not liking the film before giving their review, then spends fifteen minutes explaining why he's not like that, before giving his review.
The Murnau (sp?) Nosferatu is one of my fav films, so I was already suspicious of a remake. The other reviewers - while hyping it up & saying they liked it - inadvertantly made it sound supes boring. You're the first to confirm this. I liked The Lighthouse because of Willem Dafoe and all the farting 😁 but it was really plodding. I'll prob see this Nosferatu, but only because I wanna get a good eyeball full of how they did up this version of the vampire. Screenshots / clips are few and far between online.
I liked this film but respect your opinion. I’m also a fan of the original Nosferatu 1922 movie and 1979 remake. I enjoyed The Witch and The Lighthouse but I haven’t seen The Northman yet so I can’t comment. Although I like The Lighthouse I think it’s a tad bit overhyped and I didn’t like the scene with the guy jacking off.
You’re funny man lol but by your personality I don’t think movies like these are for you. You’re simple (respectfully) and funny. People attention spans are so short now a days. And this movie is for people who have that feeling of sacredness and respect. I mean that, if your a person that understand and has something that’s sacred, you’ll understand this movie, if you’re a person who kinda has no plan, doesn’t believe in god or believe in the occult, you’re going to be bored.
Great review, Mike! I kind of liked the movie to a degree, but it was way too long. I would say it could be compressed and take half an hour out, easily.
@Phantassm now i looked your other videos, the subtitle option is disabled in them too, it doesn't give me the chance to open it, it says there are no subtitles.
Absolutely loved it. People who want ALL the action in the first five minutes are probably addicted to their damn phones. No clue about story telling. They need instant gratification. Good movies aren't for them.
I got to give you some credit, as someone who personally loves this film and sees it as a modern throwback to the Universal horror films of the 1930’s or the great Hammer Horror films of the 1960s- films I love- your review, though ultimately negative, is very well thought out, considered and thoroughly explained. Unlike some of the other bad reviews I’ve seen which come off as ignorant, lacking any sort of perspective on film history and reeking of someone who’s ingested too much corporatized by-the-numbers crap that the studios routinely spew out. That is not the case here and I completely respect that. Again I thought the film was a masterpiece in terms of classic gothic horror. Story wise you’re right, much like the original 1922 Nosferatu (and the 79’ Herzog remake) this is yet another truncated, abridged version of the Bram Stoker story we’ve seen a million times. I guess for me, it comes down to how beautifully executed it all is. The production values are second to none and I thought Bill Skarsgard’s depiction of the Count was incredible. As you called out in your review, he’s presented as pure evil here- very much like in Stoker’s book and in traditional vampire folklore- there’s no corny, hamfisted, shoehorned romance here like in the 92’ Coppola film. Again as a lover of those old classic films and of supernatural folklore in general- that easily elevated this film for me over similar works. That, coupled with this amazing sense of atmosphere and dread is what ended up winning me over.
Like most new films I find curious I’ll give it a look when I can get hold of a cheapish dvd in a few months time - Then if I like it I’ll consider getting a blue ray. Critics views are interesting but often differ from mine and that’s great 👍
I was excited about this film…but the more I found out about it the less I was enthusiastic…thank you for your honesty it proved what I thought was going to be the theme of the film… I wanted a gothic horror not a modern feminist/sexual exploitation film 👎 I won’t be viewing this film Thanks again for your honest review 👍
I enjoyed it a lot I liked the twist of like let’s not use a steak or holy water or let’s not trick this vampire into a room and melt it we have to use a female to offer themselves to get the vampire into a bed and do a distraction to melt the vampire it was good it was new different and creative and hasn’t really been done Dracula or nosferatu or any vampire story hasn’t done anything like this ever
How would a steak be used? Would the vampire eat it then die? Would it have to be rump steak or would sirloin be more effective? These are just two of many questions I have.
Once you presented your opinion as "the truth" I no longer was able to respect it. Apparently this guy doesn't like allegories of any kind in movies. Whether that's the Wizard of Oz, The Matrix, Avatar, or Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. When are we gonna start addressing that films that require people to use more then 1% of their brain power just isn't for a lot of people. To be clear, I don't care if people didn't like the movie because the majority did so I'm not gonna care about what the minority says. But to claim your opinion as "the truth" and to say and person who publicly praises this film is a paid actor, we're venturing into the delusional area. Disrespectfully of course
I looked just like you in the beginning of this video after watching Nosferatu. I also have come to realize that his Movies are not for me. I didn’t like the Northman but I loved Bram Stoker’s Dracula and thought maybe this would be good. Hell Naw

Yeah, i was expecting more out the witch and then that ending like after the witches and satan killed her family, well, let me join them now 😆 wtf, lighthouse was long and boring for me, pointless, Northman was decent, had its parts and couldve been better imo
Good and honest review. I went to an opening screening of the film and I honestly struggled to stay awake. I don’t think the film looked bad. It just dragged on and on.
Was the reviewer you’re talking about Adam from Adam Does Movies? 🤔 He kinda did something similar where he qualified his review with an apology (he didn’t like it). Why do reviewers do this??
I enjoyed the film; I was going to see it originally on Christmas Eve with a date but I cancelled last minute. I did catch a screening last week with my mom since she wanted to check it out. We enjoyed it and I ended up sleeping with the lights on. And we were cracking Shining jokes about the two twin girls.
Sequels, remakes and reboots. That's all what 2024 has been mostly and what this year is going to also be. Hollywood is too afraid to be original anymore.
Yeah didn't do it for me either. I can appreciate the cinematography but wanted to be uneasy watching it - didn't feel that way at all and the jump scares I would say were telegraphed

Yep while the horror community praises the film and eat it up, I had my concerns all along. *I don’t trust Eggers. I think he’s an overrated director. *Last time I saw Lilly Rose Depp was in that awful film yoga hosers and she was terrible in that. *And Skarsgard doesn’t need to be in every damn movie. I still think he was a shitty pennywise. *I just still don’t trust modern Hollywood remakes. It’s 2025 now enough already! So yeah I’m not seeing this anytime soon. I’ll stick with the 1922 original version which had and still has a bigger impact on the horror genre. Thanks for the review and thanks for being real and not going along with the overrated modern horror community of today.
They didn't make Nosferatu seem like much of a bad guy...I was expecting him to go nuts He was barely even disfigured or scary looking...basically she willingly sacrificed herself to her old boo? They should've had a great plan to kill him fail and he unleash terror on the town and she begrudgingly decides to make the sacrifice after all hope is lost, etc etc This was damn near a romance film not a horror
It’s like if you watch twilight Jacob does a mark and prints on Bella and Edward’s daughter so they will get married and live together once she is 18 this basically the same thing it’s not so much they had actual sex
Dracula is one thing but a monster like nosferatu shouldnt have a Easy Rider mustache. So this evil monster that eats people has an electric beard trimmer in his bathroom. He dont even cast a reflection. How is going to trim a mustache? Smh. I dont like his voice either. Its not scary.
More importantly, his accent was too thick and difficult to understand. I did catch 95% of what he said, but why should I have to self-consciously lean forward in my seat just to catch what the main character was saying? It takes me out of actually ENJOYING the film.
@@PhantassmI saw it on HBO around 1980. Then it was unavailable for a long time and I managed to see it again at a revival theater at my college. Ten years had passed, but it was every bit as good as I remembered it. That movie somewhat divides audiences as well (the "incorrect" non-Hollywood acting styles, the slow, dreamlike pace), but not to the extent this one does.
Bram Stokers from Coppola despite some of its acting flaws, the original nos and then 79 remake if I wanna see this story ...hell I'll even take hammer films. Not that this was bad all around just...eh.
I'll be honest I haven't watched your video because I haven't made up my mind whether to go and see it. So I'm missing the spoilers but also missing any side topics you discuss but I'm taking some of my queues from the comments. I come from a small place so there are often delays on any movie that aren't the biggest of movies. Because I'm only recently getting into horror I have never seen any interpretation of Nosferatu on screen, I might get something from this. Some of the other movie content creators I follow have been giving generally positive reviews while still admitting it's not a perfect movie. Last night I watched a couple of videos from people defending movies that generally don't get the best reception, even the directors have disowned them because neither got final say on the edit. David Lynch's Dune and David Fincher's Alien. I LOVE both of these movies but I do admit that many of the criticisms are actually valid. Some people can't say anything more than 'this movie sucks' while others can actually quantify why something is good or bad. Someone in the comments said about remakes... again this is a valid concern. There are some remakes that may be unnecessary while others might introduce the movie to a new audience and if they love movies they might seek the originals. Although I haven't explored as many original movies I have explored some of the books these movies were based on. It can be a case of being damned if you do and damned if you don't. If it's a straight remake it's uninventive, if you modernise it or put a twist on it you are desecrating the source material. If you do a sequel you are lazy hack but because so many stories have been done if you do something that is sort of LIKE Ghostbusters then you're stealing ideas. Some writers are lazy but it's also hard to be original when movies are much more accessible than 20 years ago. Because modern movies can be quite ideologically motivated, they can be very blunt in what they are trying to achieve. The same can be said for some critics who have little to say so simply go after the stars and not the substance of the movie. As I said I haven't watched this to avoid spoilers I do appreciate your reviews. Addressing criticisms is a necessary thing.. but I've also seen you show some genuine warmth for movies and that's why I joined your channel. I hope you have an amazing 2025, I'll be here too.
Eloquently stated. I really enjoyed reading this. As for whether or not to go see the film, I would say to go see it and make up your own mind. Its certainly a film that would be most effective or at the very least lends itself to the big screen vs. home streaming. Honestly, I'm not a fan of it but that could be entirely different for you. You might just find much to love in it. Thanks for the well thought out and written comment.
@@Phantassm It's good to know that my comments are appreciated and hopefully they stimulate discussion. Sometimes I can write a lot because RUclips Comments are the only form of Social Media I use.. If you can call it that. I avoid the rest of it like the plague. As with my post, I love seeing things I love get praise or even get defended when need be. But some of my favourite videos lately are from people whose opinions or conclusions I don't agree with. The reason I like them is that they are giving me a fresh perspective on something, even if it doesn't change my mind it makes me critically think about why I like something. Many channels have very polarised subscribers. The ones who don't agree filter out leave. Then it is dominated by one narrow viewpoint.
It’s only pretentious and boring if you’ve got the attention span of a child. Stick with Fast & Furious movies instead 🙄🤣 Oh and the plot is over a 100 years old? There’s an actual story here…not stupid quips, explosions and CGI brain drain.
Nosferatu (2024) actually has a lot of cgi, lots of green screen. This reviewer probably hates fast & furious. Do you know what he does stick to, which he mentions in the review? Hammer. Those adaptations of Dracula and the like are very cerebral and have no cgi with real sets.
Plenty of horror movies have released (and done well) in November and December throughout the years and decades. Plus the movie does have a winter setting and has Christmas trees. And there is a little bit of A Christmas Carol sprinkled in. And you’d be surprised how popular horror is during the Christmas season. Just look at 2017. IT 2017 released in September 2017, but there was a HUGE demand to have the movie out on physical media by Christmas. A lot of people wanted the movie by Christmas. Of course, that was a failure since the movie released on physical media in January 2018. I think it still released digitally in December 2017, but physical media was still popular back then, so everyone wanted a disc copy instead. And there was a short theater-to-physical-media window back in 2017. I think Kingsman 2 released a few weeks after IT 2017 in theaters and was out on physical either around the second half of November or first half of December. So yeah. There is one example. But there is a whole bunch of horror movies that have released in November and December and done well throughout the years and decades.
@@projectpat8807 That does not refute the fact Hollywood releasing Horror Movies on Christmas day is to elevate Satan. Hollywood as a whole goes out of it's way to mock God.

Seen them both just recently. Superior to this one in every way.
Omg thank you. I thought I was going crazy.. Every critic seems to love this movie.
I was honestly excited to go see this. Thought Eggers would do it justice. But apparently "I just don't understand it". 😂
There's a difference between slowburn, and plain boring.
Oh hear we go... Just got the notification for this video and clicked on it.
*here
There’s going to be a 3hr cut of the film when it releases on Blu-ray. Maybe it’ll answer more questions. If you’re willing to watch it lol.
whoa.....I think that is how I will watch it. Thanks for heads up!
What? More of me not understanding why she’s lusting over a putrid corpse…great.
I'll b willing to watch felt the plot was too all over the place
This review could’ve been a sentence long: “I tend to be in that camp where I wanna see a good ol’ monster film.”
This is how I feel about Star Wars.
Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who...all totally destroyed.
Nothing can possibly be more Dull and Boring than this review.
Have you reviewed the original Mike? Great movie. I remember films like Interview with the vampire & Coppola's Dracula being great entertainment value. I might check this one just out of curiosity.
No I have not but I really enjoy it.
I fell for the trailer 😂😂
Very disappointed.
You articulated your points well!
Loved it. Great cinematography, great movie, good actors.
Happy New Year 🎉
Reviewer complains of people who spend 20 minutes apologizing for not liking the film before giving their review, then spends fifteen minutes explaining why he's not like that, before giving his review.
Hyped you say! Rather felt the movie 'The Substance 'was hyped.
I gave my thoughts on that one over on the patreon. I was not a fan.
@@EdwardPerez-x1g bruh it's the 3rd nosferatu remake not the 2nd coming of christ
@ Lol if it was the second coming people would be too bored to notice.
I was so disappointed. Love Eggers' works but Nosferatu was boring, so damn boring. The movie has no soul, no heart, no passion.
Great review, Mike! I kind of liked the movie to a degree, but it was way too long. I would say it could be compressed and take half an hour out, easily.
It didn’t look like Nosferatu & It didn’t feel Like Nosferatu
In simple terms, yes!!
can you turn on the subtitles?
new subscriber here
There are no subtitles to turn on for this video, on my end, however you can turn on the subtitle command underneath the video.
@Phantassm now i looked your other videos, the subtitle option is disabled in them too, it doesn't give me the chance to open it, it says there are no subtitles.
@@zeynepgulsu1899 I'll look into that. Maybe I somehow turned it off or something.
Absolutely loved it. People who want ALL the action in the first five minutes are probably addicted to their damn phones. No clue about story telling. They need instant gratification. Good movies aren't for them.
It just makes me want to rewatch Shadow of the Vampire.
Friendly suggestion but fine turn your reviews. There’s a lot of talking but few actual observations as it relates to this movie as an adaptation
Like most new films I find curious I’ll give it a look when I can get hold of a cheapish dvd in a few months time - Then if I like it I’ll consider getting a blue ray.
Critics views are interesting but often differ from mine and that’s great 👍
This movie was about Death and Rebirth. Nothing more, nothing less.
Yes to the former statement. The latter statement is unnecessary lol
I was excited about this film…but the more I found out about it the less I was enthusiastic…thank you for your honesty it proved what I thought was going to be the theme of the film…
I wanted a gothic horror not a modern feminist/sexual exploitation film 👎 I won’t be viewing this film
Thanks again for your honest review 👍
Oh boy…….
BRAVO! Finally one have the guts to say it.
Stick around. I say it a lot.
I loved it but I’m going to watch this anyway 😂 I think my boyfriend lied when he said he loved it 😂
It does say that lily herself directly says it when her and Thomas are talking to each other about orlock
I looked just like you in the beginning of this video after watching Nosferatu. I also have come to realize that his Movies are not for me. I didn’t like the Northman but I loved Bram Stoker’s Dracula and thought maybe this would be good. Hell Naw
The film is about . . . Two hours of wasted time
Can you tell me a movie that other people thought was long and boring but you enjoyed?
Star Trek: The Motion Picture, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Zack Snyder's Justice League, The Ten Commandments, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Editions, Malcolm X, Oppeheimer, Titanic, Schindler's List, A Clockwork Orange & The Shawshank Redeption, The Green Mile...to name a few.
@@MLK-KAEFENTERPRISES That's quite a few.
Thank you for saving me money broski!!!
Sorry the movie wasn't enough like Star Wars for you.
No this movie is such a disappointment after watching the 1979 version
The 79 version which made consistently great artistic choices from start to finish, and has images and music which are memorable and stay with you.
Thanks for your honest option in detail. The Herzog / Kinski film was long dark and boring too but that's the Orlok version story. I'm still going to see it but now I'm better prepared on what to expect.
Could not disagree more.
this brother keeping it real, movie was boring even if the cinematics looked good
I concur in spades. I wasn't impressed.
Yeah, i was expecting more out the witch and then that ending like after the witches and satan killed her family, well, let me join them now 😆 wtf, lighthouse was long and boring for me, pointless, Northman was decent, had its parts and couldve been better imo
1:00 in and the video hasn't even started
Good and honest review. I went to an opening screening of the film and I honestly struggled to stay awake. I don’t think the film looked bad. It just dragged on and on.
Was the reviewer you’re talking about Adam from Adam Does Movies? 🤔 He kinda did something similar where he qualified his review with an apology (he didn’t like it). Why do reviewers do this??
I honestly don't remember the name. I'd never watched the person before.
@TheChoiceVoice You got a like from me just for having Mecha-Godzilla on you desk.
Thomas is telling her I sold him the house I sold him you he took your locket and they are going back and forth and she says she was just a child when orlock first marked on her way before they meet and got married
Dario Argento's Dracula is still the gold standard of Dracula Dreck.
I think egger has an ahegao thing, same face was in the lighthhouse 😂
I honestly don’t think you can name 5 good movies
I didnt like it. Focused too much on visuals and not story.
They didn't make Nosferatu seem like much of a bad guy...I was expecting him to go nuts
He was barely even disfigured or scary looking...basically she willingly sacrificed herself to her old boo?
They should've had a great plan to kill him fail and he unleash terror on the town and she begrudgingly decides to make the sacrifice after all hope is lost, etc etc
This was damn near a romance film not a horror
It's just Dracula...always was. It's a reboot of a reboot of a remake. I enjoyed it about as much as any decent remake.
People don’t come to see creators talk about other creators. 😅
Didn’t like it. Too long boring and without the angst of the original.
I can only imagine the like/dislike ratio.
I think you are actually describing yourself in the title 😉.
If you can't argue-you insult. How mature.
@@christinacagle8128 Nah that title is describing you.
My reaction exactly
Boring AF. Regret seeing this over A Complete Unknown.
please watch nosferatu 1979
I;ve seen it. I liked it.
I hereby declare you discredited in critiquing movies.
🤣🤣🤣
@MLK-KAEFENTERPRISES all in fun of course
the movie was definitely a snooze fest for me.
wow, you didn't get the film at all. And it's not a pretentious take, I don't love everything from Eggers. But, you REALLY didn't get it.
Then it is dominated by one narrow viewpoint.
watch the movie.. if you don't like dark gothic horror then don't go.
It’s only pretentious and boring if you’ve got the attention span of a child. Stick with Fast & Furious movies instead 🙄🤣
Oh and the plot is over a 100 years old? There’s an actual story here…not stupid quips, explosions and CGI brain drain.
...Sensitive. 🤣🤣🤣
Nosferatu (2024) actually has a lot of cgi, lots of green screen. This reviewer probably hates fast & furious. Do you know what he does stick to, which he mentions in the review? Hammer. Those adaptations of Dracula and the like are very cerebral and have no cgi with real sets.
Just saw it tonight. It was awful. Everything you said in your thumbnail.
The fact that this movie was released on Christmas and not Halloween. Leads me to think the Director and Producers were trying to serve Satan.
" oh Jesus " 😅
How…..
