Very informative, thanks Ichiban. I never realised that Harley Davidson used such space aged materials in their carbs. Constantly impressed by that company's forward thinking and innovative style. Sure Brody is gonna be stoked with his badass custom floats.
Thanks Ichiban, another example of advanced motorcycle repair. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go empty some bottles of Two Buck Chuck to replenish my supply of carb floats.
it started with the tool roll video back when they discontinued it from the packet choices. used to love a packet of fire with a packet of Verde for freshness, took a taco from a 3 to a solid 4. Verde packets are still right there on the bench!!! at least one started leaking and i had to put it in a baggie, but it's still here lol
awesome dude! this has helped me out big time...quick question- i 've followed your instructions exactly but alot of forums say i will need to remap now i've adjusted the floats..???
Please help me understand, when a running bike hits a pot hole or something like a bump, what happens inside the carburetor? Doesn't the fuel splash into the venturi?
Yes that method is familiar with me, i can tell the owner used a jack hammer and jimmy bar to get that pesky float out. He may have used, by the look of the condition of the float, the second option to remove the float... TNT!
I wondered why my friends Harley was leaking. Now I know. Thanks! P.S., Do you know where the Harley Davidson crankcase oil float is located. I can't seem to find it???
Oh, There it is. It was hidden behind the dangling plastic scrotum-thing he added, You know, the thing once added to pickup trucks so drivers could pretend they were tough guys?
I have a bike where I got it in parts, and assembled but I cannot get it to run. The bike had originally had a blown piston, I replaced it. I also cleaned the carb when I bought it. The tanks clean, petcock works and fuel lines are correctly placed, but when I go to kick it over, I get nothing. Spraying gas in the carb manually or into the top end will get it started as well but the carb wont kick in and do its job. I have not been able to look in the bowl because one of the screws is stripped, could it possibly be a bowl problem? that the float is set too low and so its not drawing any gas in?
Never trust settings on carbs sold with generic make/ model fitment from anyone other than oem stock suppliers. Same goes for "pre-jetted" aftermarket units.
FYI - Those weren't genuine Harley floats, probably aftermarket. Factory Harley floats are made out of walnut as it's a denser hardwood, thus lasting longer before becoming fuel saturated.
Haha I guess that's why I wanted to start building a '79 shovelhead. Don't worry though because I own a '71 Yamaha DT250 and a '71 Suzuki TS90. Your shop is in Highland Park? I'm an hour south of you in Glen Ellyn.
jerry rigged as hell but hey, if it looks stupid and works, its not stupid. might have to try this because the float on my mikuni vm20 is sticking and i dont feel like paying for a new float haha.
I met a guy about like the guy in the video! Who ever used cork for floats in a carburator? And Harley Davidson never made wood floats for there carburators! If you can't do any better than that you need to be ban from working on floats guy!
Man, to think about the money I've wasted walking into a shop with flooding issues. You're a real difference maker, bud! Keep up the good work.
+C. Alex Mateos you are very welcome !
Very informative, thanks Ichiban. I never realised that Harley Davidson used such space aged materials in their carbs. Constantly impressed by that company's forward thinking and innovative style. Sure Brody is gonna be stoked with his badass custom floats.
+Andy Man Cam 'murican made brah !
I used a cork from a wine bottle to make my float's..of course after I drank the wine 🍷
Great video Ichibum .
👍🍀🇮🇪
Brodie is lucky to have such a good & talented friend as you Itchysan.
Those Harley floats are BAD ASS
+arcadeuk they don't make 'em like they used to !
Thanks Ichiban, another example of advanced motorcycle repair. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go empty some bottles of Two Buck Chuck to replenish my supply of carb floats.
+Mark Stevenson how long has it been since chuck was only two bucks ?
+Ichiban Moto I think it was in the previous millenium... in your prefecture it's currently about 330 yen
Love the Hartley Davidson floats
Cork from oak aged bourbon would lend to a pleasantly fragrant exhaust bouquet.
+john robert * float snob ;)
Thumbs up buddy glad to see another video up I've watched all your others now I think haha 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
+Diesineveryfilm Customs in the next episode, I open a mysterious parcel from the UK ;)
mihail
Damn ! I never realized I had so much carb float material just lying around ! Do you find Bordeaux or Cabernet Sauvignion gives the best performance ?
+vitaly deuterium vintage mad dog 20/20... before they had screw caps
I love the prison style tool set man, right on. Thanks for the info.
i have a video on how to make screwdrivers
I think my favourite part of these videos is picking out the good tips from the satire
lol good stuff here always . love this guy with a passion. laugh out laugh fest
Those Harley floats were out of a FLH Classic (Floats Lots Higher) and they were custom!
You can tell this is a old video because there’s a salsa Verde package in the background LOL boy how I miss those
it started with the tool roll video back when they discontinued it from the packet choices. used to love a packet of fire with a packet of Verde for freshness, took a taco from a 3 to a solid 4. Verde packets are still right there on the bench!!! at least one started leaking and i had to put it in a baggie, but it's still here lol
A good tip my friend, I will make sure I keep some of those floats in stock. I will make a start this weekend...hic!
+Triumph Rascal (Triumphrascal) they are cheaper if you get them by the case ;)
I'll have you know, I've ridden my 2013 Harley for 10 miles and the floats are still fine. That's like 5 trips to starbucks. Well worth it.
+Middle Path must have been built on a Wednesday ;)
top of the line dude!
Ichiban : number one !
That's was incredible your the man badass
on my ttr 90 the bowl over flows with gas and comes out of the air box and out of the drain tube. could it be the needle on the float itself?
2:06 Ahahahaha! ROFL! HD floats! THAT'S BAD ASS!
will those Harley floats fit the kiehins on my cb750? that hi-tek material is so badass,it's a shame the float bowls aren't clear to show them off!
+digschopper you might have to file them down a bit.
got rid of them a while ago, runs heaps better now
+jizpillow of course ! :D
definitely a step up from those Harley ones.. great vid as always
I'm in love with your badass bag of weed on the table
+cerbol.com prescriptions
Also, hand crafted polystyrene with its closed cell structure, make a great replacement for the Harley floats.
+Mason Ringbinder I need to try that on the next Harley that comes in for carb service
Dude even fixed his Spork. I can see it's a Taco Bell Spork.
i should do a spork video
Lol if i opened my carb and saw wine cork floats i would curse ichiban moto
Ichiban-kun, I've been back 3x. Am I the only one who misses the expert trolls?
+Marshall Hansen I really don't pay attention to the trolls
+Ichiban Moto The expert trolls were great, it only took them how many years for their blood pressure to return to normal?
+MrPotatochips4 the ET comments are icing on the cake after learning how to complete a BadAss repair with the proper materials and tools, imho
First!
Fun!
Will synthetic cork work? ;-)
+Fire Mountain Outdoors winner !
awesome dude! this has helped me out big time...quick question- i 've followed your instructions exactly but alot of forums say i will need to remap now i've adjusted the floats..???
+johnnycactus0 if the carburetor sends more fuel to the injectors, you might need to tweak the ecu or adjust the battery ?
ahhh thanks buddy! i was a little worried but i reckon if i put a bigger battery in it should cope with the extra fuel- sorted!!!
Wicked tips as always any chance you could do a vid on an idiots guide to fuel injection repairing?😬
+ninjanelly350 oh, yes ! somebody please send me one to repair !
Please help me understand, when a running bike hits a pot hole or something like a bump, what happens inside the carburetor? Doesn't the fuel splash into the venturi?
I noticed you didn't check the new floats for leaks! A pinhole leak would be a disaster !
You know model t ford floats actually are cork (varnished)
Interesting..
And filling your car up at airports is so convenient and affordable.
I know there are issues with using av-gas in automobile engines...Yet you suggested it.
don't use jet fuel.... just the propeller stuffs
Even that isn't well suited for use in automotive engines.
Badass carb float advice Ichiban! Would it help to spread some of that verde salsa onto the floats to make them more buoyant before re-assembly?
+lorollinls I need to test that out !
+Ichiban Moto Save it for the next float video! Lol
I can't afford any of those expensive cork floats! Can i use polystyrene instead........
Is it possible to use acid proof blue zip tyes?
+TheDemoncorn probably. I use Carbon Kevlar green just to be safe
That's a bad ass repair technique, extremely advanced. Are you a genius or did you study under someone in your formative years?
+thnksno M.I.T.
Ichiban Moto That's awesome! Keep up the good work!
Yes that method is familiar with me, i can tell the owner used a jack hammer and jimmy bar to get that pesky float out. He may have used, by the look of the condition of the float, the second option to remove the float... TNT!
Pure brass float screws..you are so bad ass...
+David's Favorite Videos no shortcuts at Ichiban Moto !
Sir Brass vs plastic float which is best and why ?
My Harley's are Electronic Fuel Injection. I don't know what year you got that float from.
1900's something
ça déchire !
+Pascal F Merci beaucoup mon ami
I wondered why my friends Harley was leaking. Now I know. Thanks!
P.S., Do you know where the Harley Davidson crankcase oil float is located. I can't seem to find it???
+Alberto Knox There is one located in the drip tray on the floor under the HD. It is there to set off an alarm to prevent drip tray overflow.
Oh, There it is. It was hidden behind the dangling plastic scrotum-thing he added, You know, the thing once added to pickup trucks so drivers could pretend they were tough guys?
buen invento saludos desde españa
+A.SeRRaNo Hola mi amigo ! Quiero visitar España en el futuro
fantastico,
where can i get that float height precision ivory measuring tool?
it is elephant save synthetic ivory... I think it came frome nickel town customs
I can only but laugh. Brilliant ! and thanks. ps HD used to use mahogany, they have gone down in standards.
+Kabali 17 I need to find a set of those for my float collection
i had to subscribe just based on that float make over....
having a spare supply of float material on hand is a good investment
Hi, how is the correct float level (in mm) on mikarb 24? I got a bullet 350...thanks folks!
At aroudn 2:25 you mentioned Millimeters, Didnt you mean milli litres? We are working with fuel which is a fluid. Millimeters are insects.
+Boodysaspie tasty !
Millimetres is correct
I have a bike where I got it in parts, and assembled but I cannot get it to run. The bike had originally had a blown piston, I replaced it. I also cleaned the carb when I bought it. I will make a stripped screw extraction video :)
+Ichiban Moto thanks! I dont want to strip the screw anymore than I have to, to get it out!
Does a new carb come factory set?
Never trust settings on carbs sold with generic make/ model fitment from anyone other than oem stock suppliers. Same goes for "pre-jetted" aftermarket units.
Thank you
Darn Harley Davidson... Always stuck back in the medieval ages...
+Octometh there is something to be said for classic engineering
+Ichiban Moto There's something to be said for modern engineering too!
Harley uses mostly 40mm CV carburetors.that are just like the ones you see on other brands.
I like how your 5 out of 5 stickers are always more than 5😂
+Husain Patanwala five-ish :D
Screw driver pretty sick to
You good information carborater think you
You made a schoolboy error. That float material is for diesel, you need Chardonnay corks for petrol. Duh!
+Jon Laws oh fook! I need to have him send it back now
Jon Laws Why Chardonnay corks for gasoline?
Due density of E85, Chardonnay corks are the ideal material, Burgundy corks are just too dense.
i would think it would soak up gas like a sponge.
Sometimes I don't know if you are shitting me or if you're honest just great
FYI - Those weren't genuine Harley floats, probably aftermarket. Factory Harley floats are made out of walnut as it's a denser hardwood, thus lasting longer before becoming fuel saturated.
+Gene LeGate nice catch ! :D
Maybe those HD Floats were made in China.
The Harley floats are made by bad ass American lumberjacks.
+GoogleSucks 'murica !
Awesome
Try replacing with blown balloons. It works just as your method.
Lol, the harley floats were the best part
+Michael J Harleys are amazing machines
Haha I guess that's why I wanted to start building a '79 shovelhead. Don't worry though because I own a '71 Yamaha DT250 and a '71 Suzuki TS90. Your shop is in Highland Park? I'm an hour south of you in Glen Ellyn.
I think using bottle caps would work too
+Souksanh Phoummavong Hmmmm
What are those "foam" floats?
+Beau Michna some floats are a closed cell foam.. but they deteriorate over time
+Ichiban Moto Oh ok, I thought those were tonka truck tires.
i actually laughed hard at the HD floats, try a set of SV carbs for float height, what a pain in the d1ck.
oh, i have a fuel height video coming soon too
Ichiban Moto lol. oh good. i wait with anticipation.
Wrong, do not set float height by having the carb tirmed upside down.
jerry rigged as hell but hey, if it looks stupid and works, its not stupid. might have to try this because the float on my mikuni vm20 is sticking and i dont feel like paying for a new float haha.
You need some tools. Whens your birthday?
send birthday tools to address in video description.
ma zubair sumarei bike ka carburetor kharab ho gaya ka karana
I guess it was a joke about HD floats.😆
use bubble gum to as airfliters. It Rides
think this is a proper "how to " vid, pretty goodass ??
+Colin Woodburn I would have to see pics
I don't know what harley is thinking with their floats man.
+Alex C. (The Keymaker) it's interesting to see the evolution of parts and components over the decades
Bad Ass!
Educational as always, thankyou.Pity you didn't get sent the whole bike, you could have float tested it.
+ianslow1234 but the swimming pool is frozen over :/
I met a guy about like the guy in the video! Who ever used cork for floats in a carburator? And Harley Davidson never made wood floats for there carburators! If you can't do any better than that you need to be ban from working on floats guy!
My Harley floats were made of bamboo from China. Everything is made in China now! :(
+Artie Bucco I have yet to see those
+Ichiban Moto Back here in India, we have solid lead floats on HDs... !
this guys to cheap to get a proper ruler as well. omfg . his lameness is climbing to demi lameness.
What are we in prison
How to fix a 10 dollar part lol
helloooo
120th!
Is this cork thing a joke 🤔 ?
:))))))))))))))))))))
should have used Styrofoam
oh, that would be a nice upgrade !
+Ichiban Moto think the light weight properties of Styrofoam Will allow you to go faster
😂
lol Harley
:D
+Pedro Sanchez Pedro !!!!!!!! :)
