Galaxy S6 Glass removal

  • This was my second attempt at a glass only repair on the Galaxy S6. The first time was unsuccessful as trying to push a playing card between the glass and digitizer is complicated by the way that the adhesive gums up the surface. This AMOLED is very fragile so the method that was used with the GS4 doesn't seem like a good choice. Fortunately we can remove the rear housing and allow room for a molybdenum wire to separate the two surfaces. If you make it through this part check out the glass installation video here • Galaxy S6 Glass Instal...

    Thank you for your information, I had to replace my battery on my phone as it had started to expand for some reason. I watched other videos and they had me try to remove the front lens to get to the battery. This was much simpler and I have since successfully replaced the battery.

    Thanks for posting this! Would you happen to have one about replacing the LCD and touch screen for the S6 active?

    Thanks for this great video!
    I'm a bit concerned that if I attempted to repair this, I'd have a good chance of damaging the phone....
    I use a heat plate with a built in vacuum to fix iPhone glass screens, but it doesn't seem to me like the temperature the iPhone screens can handle will be suitable for the S6. I use 60 degrees, will that burn the S6?

    I was able to get this by using the playing card and a isesamo tool. It is definitely more fragile. I used heat plate and hot air gun along with a temp gun. I kept it at around 180 to 200 F when I was separating the glass. I started with an isesamo tool and then put the playing card underneath. I also went really slow.

      +Fix All Cell Ogden Did you remove the battery first? My main concern was the lack of stability due to no real mid frame per se.

      +Go Cell Phone Repair I don't think I removed the battery, I don't fully remember. I took off the back plate, midframe and used the isesamo tool to get it started, making sure the digitizer flex cable was lifted up before using the playing card. I've learned from experience that it is pretty easy to slice right through them with a card. and then I kept heating it up, checking the temp to be at 180 to 200 degrees and slowly worked my way down. It didn't separate like the S4, that is for sure. After I was done, I took out the logic board and battery (I think) and used the octopus glue loca. I noticed however these are hard to get flush when put back together, because there is not a lot of space between the bezel and lcd. But when I screwed all the screw back in it was relatively flush. I recommend letting customers know of this potential issue when doing a glass only repair for them vs. a full LCD replacement.

    what do you do if you take off the glass and noticed that the deck in which the glass sits on is broke too?

  • @CraigWard

    You mention that it took about 45 mins to remove. How long approximately do you think it took to do the whole refurb. As a cost/benefit I'm just thinking it'd be quicker and easier to get a new screen.
    Btw those AMOLED screens are crazy thin, took an S6 apart last week. Was amazed!

      Craig Ward The removal process will be faster once I have a few under my belt. I was being very careful with this one and started out at way too low of a temperature, 35C, gradually increasing as I wasn't sure how high to go. Once you have it torn down it should be possible to get through the display in fifteen minutes or so but if you have a lot of cracks that could change things dramatically. Realistically the whole repair can probably be performed in about an hour and a half I'm guessing once you've reached a high level of proficiency. I too would much rather do the entire display as a lot of things can go wrong here so this was more for the challenge than anything else. Also it seems like AMOLED costs take a very long time to come down so once this is streamlined hopefully it will be worth doing.

      +Otis Henderson Are you referring to the AMOLED or another part? If it is the display itself then you'll have to replace the whole piece.

    Hi Great video! I just finished my first s6 glass removal, unfortunately
    I ran into problem where digitizer on very bottom very space button is
    in texting ( 1 -2 cm) doesn't work. For example i press space and it
    inputs V letter on top of it. Did I nick the cable or is there a cheap
    way to fix it? Thanks!

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  9 лет назад +1

      +Keriks Sounds like either the cable or possibly digitizer. If youre sure that its connected properly then the only way I know of to fix it is replacing the digitizer which unfortunately is attached to the AMOLED. I believe it is possible to remove and replace but havent tried myself and imagine it would be difficult without specialized equipment.

    Can you tell me what the 2-sided adhesive tape is called...the one with the translucent pink film? it looks thinner than the traditional cell tapes. Thanks your videos, really helpful!

      Are you talking about the RedTape adhesive?

    • @ForestWoodworks
      @ForestWoodworks 8 лет назад +1

      Yeah, I think that's it. I've never seen it until I started watching the S6 videos. I think I found some on ebay. Is this the preferred tape style for the S6? I did order the back panel die cut strip, but was thinking of the red to use for the battery. What do you think?

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  8 лет назад

      For the battery sure that's fine. For the screen, back panel, and everything else you should be able to find the factory pre-cut adhesive. That is the easiest to apply and gives you great coverage.

    It seems that the power switch is working by virtue of connecting two pins. Did you try to connect these two pins with a paperclip or something, rather than install the fragile screen in the housing?

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  7 лет назад

      I didn't at the time but yes you can short the connection that interfaces with the power button for a second or two and it will prompt the phone to power up.

    Question.. I dropped my S6 Active. The glass has a hairline crack. Nothing really bad. The problem I have is, the screen is completely unresponsive. Would replacing the front glass correct this? Is the glass actually a digitizer or just a cover for what is under it?

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  9 лет назад

      +Donald Lemoine AFAIK the digitizer is not part of the glass and youll need to replace the entire display assembly unless something else in the phone was damaged enough to affect the touch functionality. Ideally you would remove the old screen without damaging it and connect a new one to see if that corrects the problem.

    my question is the glass it's self is cracked and I just want to replace the glass. would I need that vacuum tool to take it off or can I just use a heat gun and playing cards to seperate just the Glass and replace it.. and if so do I need to use glue or tape to put just the glass back on on ?

    • @GoCellPhoneRepair
      @GoCellPhoneRepair  8 лет назад

      While it may be possible I found that the playing card and heat gun, at least on my first attempt, made damaging the AMOLED a considerable risk.
