Hi guys, you touched on meals during your land package, with your acommodation was brekky included or are all meals self funded. Did you travel on the scenic railway, if so were any meals provided. We are looking at a 12 day land /cruise package with Princess or Holland America. Cheers, safe travels.
Hi - Thanks for watching and for your question. We sailed with Celebrity Cruises but our land package didn’t include any meals at hotels once we had left the ship. I think both Princess and HA offer other options but we only found that out after we had travelled. We trusted out travel agent to get us the best deal but not sure they did in hindsight …hence the video. That said it was the trip of a lifetime and we had an awesome time that also included the Wilderness Express train. Again something to watch for is the part of the route you’ll travel with the section between Fairbanks and Denali reputed to be the best. We did Denali to Fairbanks and it was still pretty cool. There was a restaurant in the rail car again at extra cost. The 12 day package we are sure will be amazing and wish we were going back sometime… So much to see and do. Safe travels guys !
Thank you for watching and how exciting that you are heading to wonderful Alaska ! And your question is a tough one and a lot depends on what you want to achieve on the land portion of your trip. What we would say is that Alaska’s interior is vast and you can travel for hours without seeing a settlement. Our phone signal was also patchy in places too. We got a good taster of Alaska’s interior on our tour but wished it was longer with longer stops in the various towns. These itineraries were available to book but at the time of booking we were not sure what to expect. If you are looking to visit the same places that the land tours go to then either a longer land tour or even train travel could be a good option. But if you are looking to explore away from the main destinations then self exploring is the only to do it. Hope this helps and sure you’ll have an amazing trip and make wonderful memories.
Thanks for vid Cooks! Quick question, is the bus/coach mandatory? Is there a place you can rent your own car? The bus/coach leg of this trip is a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for watching and for the question. If you book a combined cruise and land tour with the cruise line then the bus will likely be the more of transport … But I agree if we had time again I would hire a car and do the interior under our own steam .. it’s a wonderful place .. spend as much time there as you can..
Looks like a good choic to make with so much extra to explore
Would do it again in a heartbeat

@@CooksExplore Thanks for the feed back guys much appreciated. Cheers.
Do you think it would be better to rent a car and do the land portion on your own? Or stick with the land tour? I am planning a solo cruise in 2026
