Thank you for sharing. I also moved from the UK to Germany, and I'm looking into getting into medical writing (as I need a job). I worked as a scientific copy editor/proofreader for five years for a well-known psychology institute in Germany, which was all in English, but I was made redundant during Covid. I then went on to get a first-class BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling, but I had to take a year off after that to care for my elderly parents.
Thank you for sharing your story - I also got into medical writing as I needed a job! I think you can continue as a copy editor/proofreader too. Sorry to hear about being made redundant, I was made redundant too - twice! Congratulations on your first class BSc - that is awesome. I hope your parents are doing well too.
Thanks. I've been looking to pivot and am exploring avenues in medical writing.
Thank you for your kind comment 😊
Thanks for valuable information through this video. I am intending to start freelancing in Medical writing. I have a Bachelors degree in science. Im highly interested in reading/researching on medical topics. In this video you mentioned about making a portfolio. If you can give little more details on what topics to write about in order to make a portfolio, it will be helpful. Thanks
Hey, it depends what you enjoy writing about - you might find this helpful video about medical writing portfolio here: ruclips.net/video/KeutH_JbKqY/видео.htmlsi=UeKyUVWg5wqCFhe6

thank you, that is a great video. I am a medical doctor looking forward to starting medical writing can you help me?
Hey! Thank you so much - yes absolutely I can help. What type of medical writing are you looking to get into?
At the moment I can have a video call with you or you can take a look at our courses here: writeclinic.com/medical-writing-courses/
hey guys,
I am a non-medical person with a Master’s in Marketing, and I have been working in content writing and research for over 10 years. My experience includes SEO, blogs, copywriting, marketing content, and nearly all types of writing-related tasks.
Can I pursue a career in medical writing with my hands-on writing experience? Will this field be as open to me as it is to someone with a medical background?
Thank you in advance for your sincere advice.
Hello - Yes absolutely! I have worked with medical writers who do not have a medical background. Your Masters in Marketing would be ideal for promotional content and medical copywriting. There are different rules and regulations around promoting medicines depending on the country your client is in - so that would be a good starting point for you :)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Lots of helpful info. I have a BA in psychology and have tried a lot of different types of work and keep burning out. That is the reason I want to get into content writing and I'm considering medical writing as a niche. How do you know if you have enough knowledge to succeed in medical writing? I have taken lots of science courses and I work at a hospital but I'm not sure I would know what to write about on, for example, a personal blog. What are your thoughts?
Hey, Sorry to hear about the burnout, and I hope you are feeling better now. Generally, if you can understand health topics and science, then you have enough knowledge. The more advanced knowledge you have, the better and easier it is to find jobs. If you want to start writing about something, think of what you like to read about. You need to enjoy reading and researching before you write - so I recommend anything that makes you feel excited or you are personally passionate to write about - for example, some people write about a health condition that is in their family or a medicine you used recently.
