Fun story, me and my cousin used to trade games. We lost the copy of ruby in the yard one time when we were playing outside. Couldn't find it for months. Through rain and crazy southeast Texas weather, my grandfather (pepaw) hit it with a lawn mower. The front part of the cartridge was damaged badly (jagged and spikey) but we put it on our GBSP and it still worked! I played it for years after that. Used a gameshark on it, traded with friends and loved the heck out of it. Lost it again down the line. One of the best pokemon games. Good memories..

Even more than that, you could use the time machine that existed in one of the first pokemon games, I think it was silver or something and from there to Ruby so technically, you can play now with pokemon that existed more than 15 years ago, which is crazy. I still have my Ruby pokemon here with me and that game in years will cost a fortune in Ebay and stuff as long as you have the box which contained the game with the instructions.
@@jjdpr You couldn't transfer between the gba games and gbc games. The technology was incompatible. Plus Gamefreak had changed the way stats worked and added extra features that the old pokemom wouldn't have had.

I got my game boy color at Christmas time with the REAL O.G. pokemon red when it came out. I played that game boy for HOURS. These kids now days dont really understand how cool pokemon was when it came out in the 90s it was HUGE. There was pokemon commercials on every channel on tv.. Burger King and McDonalds had all kinds of cool stuff like the gold plated pokemon cards.. EVERY kid at school had pokemon cards and the games it was amazing ! I wish I could go back :,,( I'm 30 years old now and I have a game boy color, 2 game boy sps and a nintendo ds... Yes. You see, for the US, you need the Pokemon Colosseum Bonus Disc for Jirachi (which you got along with the game if you pre-orderd it.) For Europe and Australia, you needed Pokemon Channel and you needed to unlock the full version of Pichu bros within the game. Later on, you can transfer Jirachi from Pokemon Channel to a European or Australian Ruby and Sapphire Cartridge.
