Indila is realy great singer. And i falling in love in her music video "Parle à ta tête"
This was Diana's very first appearance on You Are Super which is why the judges were blown away as they hadn't seen her before. She's definitely international by RUclips standards, but is yet to go down the record company contract path yet as she's got four more years of music college to go through. In the mean time she's still releasing music videos and putting on concerts, having done one only last week in Moscow. Oh and the background is supposed to represent night time Paris, possibly overlaid with a bit of her inner turmoil, as that's where the song's set. She's missing her lover and takes solace in the night life and dancing, but it's a bitter-sweet experience on her own.

I think she really can relate to this song.
She was born in the Russian far east and when she was three years old, her mother, who abused her, left her on the station in the middle of the winter. Her ount couldn't take care of her, so she was put in the orphanage. A therapist there liked her a lot and on the insistance of her daughter, she took legal custody oh Diana. She had different mental issues and speech disorders, well, no wonder. One speech therapist suggested she should try some singing lessons and she loved it. Diana was afraid her mother would find her and her fear started to effect her mental health, so the family relocated far away to European part of Russia. She was singing at any given oportunity. The head of a brass band recognized her vocal abilities and recomended her to some teachers. She started to attend different singing contests. At the end of this contest, when she was pronounced the winner, Igor Krutoy (the bald judge), promised her kesy of the appartment in Moscow, so she could continue her musical education there. He kept his promise.

I love your friend's point about the background being so abstract on purpose. We already have Diana being very good at emoting this colorful song. If they tried to add meaning to it with the background it would just be too much. I heard somewhere that Diana had some say in the stage design on this show, and that might explain why her backgrounds always match her performances perfectly.
