Alco vs EMD - The Amazing Race!

Happy New Year 2015 folks! As we step into the new year I present a rare moment - parallel departures from Bengaluru City! While this would have been the stuff of dreams had I been at Malleswaram with a raging EMD chasing an alco, this is what I could capture at Bengaluru City Jn. While the train hauled by the alco (KJM WDG-3A #13268) is the empty rake of the Shivamogga-Bengaluru Passenger being shunted to Yeswantpur to leave later in the evening as the Yeswantpur-Salem Passenger, the train hauled by the EMD (KJM WDP-4 #20036) is the much-loved Siddaganga Intercity Express bound to Dharwad.
While the alco starts off first and the EMD picks up slowly, my video stops after 2 minutes. What followed later had to be seen to be believed - the EMD's loco pilot notched up so aggressively that though the alco hauled passenger had fully overtaken the EMD hauled Siddaganga Express and gone a little ahead, by the time the last coach of the Siddaganga cleared the platform it had already caught up with the passenger and had overtaken half of the coaches of the former. A little ahead at Malleswaram station would have seen one of the best parallel actions with two diesel hauled trains hot on each other's heels!

The EMD just departed the station, no overtake nor race, can't believe you'll say ALCos are trash and appreciate a EMD for departing a station.
