This collection is all over the place. I absolutely loved the 1970's vintage reprints. Also, the high-neck coat and the 1990's stir-rup pants.

The vintage remakes in a modern style would be such a help! My brain can't see the potential in those drawings. I've made up some patterns I've found at thirft stores and I'm always blown away at how cool they look once sewn up!

I would ❤ to see your interpretation of vintage patterns...esp those 50s/60s. More interested in the 1930-1960s vintage since I lived thru the 80-90s...and would prefer not to.go back into that fashion. 😅. Although....watching what you do with it might be fun.
I messaged simplicity a.few wks ago & complained about them not having samples on a real models in this day and age of unlimited space for photos. They said they would forward my message on. If more people would message them we would prob get results. I want to see samples with a vintage vibe and a modern vibe.

Love your thoughtful and funny take on the patterns, as always! I'd enjoy a video on modernizing the vintage patterns.
Also, Stephanie Canada (Backroom finds) has a video with her review on the recent vintage reissues. She notes that a lot of the true original 90s patterns are still around and may be better-drafted than the reissues. She had some interesting thoughts on what the big 4 chooses to reissue. 😊

I love the first overalls. Like most of the 90's stuff. I can imagine how it would look and there are many current examples on the online shopping sites you could show. Maybe a match a pattern to the trends type thing.

Lol, my husband has requested sleep shirts! I've made him two shorter length ones out of very light weight knit and two longer length ones.
One long one is from a thicker, tricot knit, and the other is from a minky type fabric. He never wears the long ones to bed, but wears them around the house like closed-front robes. Side note, I have made him a heavy, terry cloth robe as well.
Before we bought a heated blanket, he wore the short nightshirts to bed on those transitional nights when he needed just a little bit of warmth. For context, we were in our late 50s when I made these.

Wow... I remember all 3 of those retro patterns n loved them... i adore the robe n nitegown pattern but they have screwed us again !!! My sister fit into that size range then n I couldnt... I hated that then n now... McCalls has always been my go to of the big 4 but to screw us over again on the same exact pattern the exact same way pisses me off to no end... thank heavens for indie patterns... till McCalls brings out this nite set in my size I'm done with the "big too big for their panties" big 4... now I have the skills to hack a reasonable facsimile too !!!

M8433 jacket can be made in challis. You would make it unlined and use mid weight interfacing for the collar. I know challis is drapey but it would still work…ask me how I know!

I think that with the vintage reprint patterns, they use the original fabric type recommendations, which is why they sound a little odd for today. Those have not been updated in the reproduction. Someone would have totally made that crop top in corduroy in the 70s, haha.

I already have this pants pattern in my pattern stash M8432. I bought my pattern 🔙 in the nineties. However if I was to make the pants it would be with a double breasted blazer. I love 😍 double breasted blazers the best 😊.

It's a NIGHTSHIRT, not a dress. 😂 I'm from Wisconsin, no men wore them. But if you sew for community productions of A Christmas Carol it would be very handy. Ask me how I know. 😉

No, Canadien men don't wear long night shirts buuut i can see it on a hipster confident young man or in a chalet type setting. Why not! We're not used to it but maybe there are cold men out there😂

Be careful of the 90s jacket and the coat - there is a ridiculous amount of ease that is included so you will probably want to size down.

    • @InsidetheHem
      @InsidetheHem  Год назад

I think it's supposed to be really oversized.10+ inches of ease would make sense.

You could make this out of just about any fabric including challis. It’s just not a great pattern.
