I have about 10 different mattingly rack packs/cellos, and 1988 Donruss & Fleer Gregg Jefferies cellos. Other than those, I can’t help myself from opening wax packs.
Mike, I have over 800 boxes and over 300 sealed wax packs dating back to 1979. Sealed wax takes up a lot of space but I also have thousands of singles that I PC like Kobe Bryant and Nolan Ryan. Thanks for showing this amazing collection.
As someone who displays everything I own I love his custom built solutions to see everything. I know the feeling of running out of display space without feeling like everything is plied on other things. I don’t have any wax but seeing all of them brings me back to my youth when they were in every store hoping to get sold. Great cover of an amazing, museum level collection.
I had 2 sealed 1992 Donruss Series 2 baseball boxes at my parents' house. My dad passed away in 2022. One weekend in August 2024, I stayed at my mom's and opened one. Pulled a Griffey Jr Donruss Elite Series 778/10,000. Got it graded and got an SGC 9!
The display cases look so good. Being new to collecting as of 2024, I get inspired seeing these collections and learning while opening cards for myself.
I would love to have a display case like that. I have every Bowman baseball box (sealed) from 1989 to current. I have no room for all these boxes anymore. I can't stop buying sealed boxes. Argh!!
The shelving display cases he uses is almost as impressive as his sealed wax collection. I've got somewhere around 30 wax boxes dating back to 85. Great video!!
Those rack packs and room are ridiculously amazing. I noticed the Henderson rookie on top of one well. I can’t compare to that but I do have a 1985 Topps rack with Clemens on top and another 1987 Donruss with Bonds. Then 2 1989 hoops packs with Robinson 138 on top. All of which I found in the wild and saved thru the years. Happy new year!
Sweet, I have been collecting unopened wax since 1989 and my treasure is a BBCE wrapped 1969 Football Rack Pack (Series 1) which is the full bleed cards i.e. possible Namath, Unitas, Sayers, Csonka rookie, etc. Steve Hart at BBCE says its the only Series 1 he has seen. The Series 2 racks have the white borders and while not "common", are seen at auction occasionally. My other prize is a PSA graded 1969 Baseball "blue cello" which is very rare, most 69 cellos have clear wrap and the blue wrap cello has more cards in it.
The other cool one I had was a BBCE 1971 Baseball Rack Pack with Reggie Jackson on top, I auctioned it thru Robert Edwards Auctions about two years ago and got a lot more than the $200 I paid for it in 1989.
He's well known in a FB group I'm in, the amount of rack packs he's shown drops my jaw everytime. Just the thought of anybody keeping these intact since the 60s, 70s and 80s is insane to me.
Those are unbelievable! Yount and Ryan is crazy. What a great collection! And the display is probably one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Thanks for the video!!
Those are awesome. I own 2 87 topps rack packs with bo Jackson on the back of each. Those will never get opened as, I collect him. I think back to when I started collecting and remember buying 89 fleer basketball rack packs and a bunch that I bought had Jordan on the front. Should have kept them sealed but at the time, I just wanted to open them.
That sealed 75 Yount is a banger! That 71 Rose as well. Great share! It would be cool to see some slow video showcasing more of his items with your audio overdub.
I love it! I don’t have any sealed wax, but those rack packs display so well, I can see the allure. The entire room and all the custom cases look fantastic. Thanks for sharing, Mike!
Rack packs with stars showing are great to collect, because they're scarce, and because you can more easily resist ripping them (since you already know about and can appreciate a great card inside). I'd have a hard time keeping any bbce-sealed wax boxes around...
I think its nice to have one or two rack packs/cellos as it relates to your favorite player or collecting focus. Most collectors have a focus and difficult to suddenly go in another direction but having a few pieces is fun. I think people want to have a focus so their collections stand out and they can be proud of. If its too random the collector loses interest and its not fun anymore.
1977-78 Star Wars is my wax weakness... very little urge to open them as the odds of getting good stuff is low... and this guy's era(80s-90s) is actually kind of affordable, so great luck there...
Hi Mike. That is an awesome collection of wax. I only have a couple of boxes of wax. That 75 topps with Ryan and Yount is amazing. Thank you for sharing.
What do you mean it would be an issue if they don’t get opened with low numbered cards? Do you just mean that some cards won’t make it into circulation?
@@internetperson9121 Issue may not be the correct word. Taking out of circulation is a nice way to put it. Before when everything was a base card, collecting wax didn’t prevent someone from finding a single. Now it could. Something to think about.
I do have some unopened boxes in my collection. The best being 3 boxes of 1989 Upper Deck low number. I also have a 1990-91 Fleer Basketball box. Modern era wise I have a bit of 2022 Topps Update and some of this year's Topos Update that I hope will appreciate someday similar to 2018 Update. I know it is not too likely since the print runs are much higher now. That collection and the displays are very impressive.
What's interesting and as such a thing in life, one dude's channel had a person on that supposedly had the best unopened cello and pack collection all grading 9's and 10's, but as the saying goes, no matter how good a thing you have or you are, someone's gonna be better usually.
That sealed box of series 1 GPK's is beautiful. I got into those around series 3 when I was a kid. I think my school eventually banned us from bringing them to school.
I collect a lot of F1 and have a sealed wax collection of F1 hobby boxes. Topps only started making them in 2020. I also collect the complete run of Topps Opening Day hobby boxes. Also like collecting Topps Chrome Stadium Club, and Panini Certified Football hobby boxes. And also have a large collection of sealed retail Prizm, Select and Mosaic Football. I used to but 2 hobby boxes of everything, one to rip and one to keep sealed, but now sealed boxes are getting to pricey to keep collecting.
I have a minor sealed wax collection. I also have a some wax wrappers. That is an amazing card room. I’m fortunate to have a great card room as well. I have half the basement. I have pretty much run out of wall space too. That is an amazing collection. Love the rack packs that are unopened. Great story.
Would it be worth it to open a few of those rat packs and try for PSA 10s of some of those bigger rookie cards that are on the top or keep them in the pack?
It’s always great to see someone who is smarter then I was I started collecting in the late 60 s and had many uncut sheets from the late 1960s but cut them all out with my freind and flipped them and well that was that never saved any of them 🥴
I'm not sure it gets easier not wanting to open wax. I have a bunch of wax that I have for sale, but it doesn't mean I don't want to rip it, I just don't. I guess it might seem easier because I'm not doing it, like I'm resisting the urge, but the gambler inside of me always thinks, well what if x is inside that box. Merry Christmas.

I think it’s a lot easier to NOT rip 80’s wax because it’s all base and maybe a couple mass produced inserts. Unless you’re looking for a specific card to grade such as ripping 1980 Topps trying to get the PSA 10 Rickey Henderson. Any ’80’s or even ‘70’s products, you can just buy the complete set for a fraction of what an unopened wax or rack box would cost. Case in point; right now, on BBCE’s website, they have a 1980 Topps Rack box for $5k, 1978 Topps Rack box for $6.4k, and 1977 Topps Wax box for $5.5k. You can buy any of those sets in high grade on eBay for $200-$300 each. I think collectors, in general, have a harder time not opening modern wax. Collectors of modern don’t really care about the base, they just want those auto’s and #’ed cards.
