I saw them live on the court and I can definitely tell how humble and kind guys both Latvians are! Martins Plavins came out of retirement and, after serving as the coach of Fokerots, he decided just to play with him and to beat every team they faced. It’s boring to say that it was unexpected for Latvia, since Plavins and other Latvian players turned the unexpected into expected, Olympics 2008, 2012, 2020 to name a few. And this kid does only have experience from Futures and under-age tournaments, but the future is all his. Congratulations to Latvia, it was a well-deserved victory!
What an upset, what a fantastic result! 😊 This title is the crowning jewel of Martins Plavins' long career. I'm sure that going forward we'll also be seeing plenty more of Kristians Fokerots. Way to introduce yourself on Europe's biggest stage, young man! 🎉
Great for Latvia 👏👏 BUT the podium would look entirely different with European Championship not directly after the Olympics. It is still an important championship, maybe reconsider timing of Championships going forward 😢.
