Wholesale Ted I agree with you. Thanks for giving me hope. I have been following you for a while and I finally opened my online boutique business ( carrying my own inventory). I made my first two sales after one week from opening my store. Your video came at the right time because I lost hope and faith in myself as I haven’t made any more sales since then. Even though I know I should not despair as my store is only 6 weeks old, but I think it’s lack of confidence and worry about losing more money as I have lost £2K so far on clothes that don’t sell. I will use your advice in the video and keep grinding :). Thanks a lot for your videos.

Neither of you are wrong. Your dad just gave a perspective that was different from yours. I want my freedom but I have to cognizant of costs because I have a family so I see both sides.

I agree with dad but think the same way you do. I dont mind spending the money to get things going. Ive been at etsy for almost a year and no sales yet but i dont think i should give up, i just need to keep improving. Just like anything else, it takes practice. Love your videos #amatureseller #etsynewbie #failedscientistcafe

Well... there's two types of mentalities in this. "The employer" would agree with you, and the "Employee" with your dad. The barrier between the two becomes thicker with time, so... the longer you wait, the longer the jump.
PS: I agree with you. Don't have any employees but at least I'm my own boss, haha.

I got off the road years ago as a full-time entertainer. I was criss-crossing the country doing shows while I had a new baby at home I rarely saw. When he was about 1 I made the best decision in my life. I gave up a very lucrative career in which most would say I was crazy to do. I went from mad money to nearly broke to spend time with my child. It is a decision that I still have no regrets over 23 years later. That time could have been totally lost. Today, I do what I love again, on my time. And hey, money is not everything, what you are passionate about and how you spend your time (and who with) is.

Sarah -- you totally got me with #5! Since starting my online reselling business two months ago, I found myself going to McDonalds constantly!! It has gotten to a point where I am exhausted, sluggish and down right fighting to get energy to do the things that I need to excel my business!! Although, some may find that tip silly, I think it is one of the best tips in this video. You really have to take care of yourself first before you can carry your amaziness into any business. Also, any more resources for healthy eats?! From your stereotypical American Rubbish Eater across the pond

Everything I have learned so far from your videos has led me to escape the money-minded, where I only cared for sales and didn't really think for the customer and moved over to how can I bring value to the customer such as Fast Shipping, Better products, reasonable prices, clarity on the store such as right shipping time! Thank you! I hope to learn more on the E-Comm Clubhouse!

17:44 "Remember, you can always make back your money...but you can NEVER make back your time". This hit me on many levels. So true! Today I was actually under a decision to go to a 9-5 interview for a remote job (i'm currently 9-5 local), or not to go. I couldn't make up my mind, but deep down i felt that this isn't what I want. What i want is scalability, freedom to set my time, freedom to work less (eventually) and explore the new world of being a business owner. This message made me change my mind and cancel the interview, so I can focus on working on myself rather than working for someone else's company. Thank you!

    Mistakes new entrepreneurs make:
    1. They treat their businesses like a Magical Money Vending Machine
    2. They fall for shinny object syndrome
    3. They overthink taxes
4.They think that their businesses are awesome, but their customers don't
    5. They eat Mcdonalds
    6. They cut corners in The Wrong Places with their businesses (also, alwyas prioritize your sales and your marketing)
    7. They try to compete on price
    8. They understimate their customer's intelligence
    9. They try to do everything themselves
    10. They are afraid to invest and loose money-

The difficult part for me is seeing what else the world needs. It seems like everyone in a first world country has more than they could ever need, but I realize from a business perspective if people are willing to buy unnecessary products, then there will be a demand that may make a specific item which caters to that demand profitable.
    It's very interesting.
Also the part at the end is relatable to me since I'm extremely risk averse. I have plenty in savings but don't splurge at all on eating out or buying stuff I don't need.
I don't know if I'll ever put in the time and energy to become an entrepreneur even though I'm fairly stressed by work at times, but I'll still watch your videos from time to time incase I think of a service to offer that's better than buying a truck, trailer and tools and trying to start a small yard care business.

Like you, i don't think about the money as much as ive found ways that work for me in my business, however after a few years of business im starting to really appreciate the little free time i have for family and myself. Mistakes eat up time, although i learn and persevere through those mistakes, its still something i can never get back.

This is so great! And this is why, in 3 easy steps. From a filmmaker to you who wants to make YT videos that work: 1. super-powerful interesting and useful "straight to the point" content...no fluff, interresting even for people outside the films target group, the wiever gets value from the first sentence and you are not forced to buy to many books, courses and other products related to the chnnel. 2. Wery well produced, looks like "lets just tape you in the office with my phone" editing and sound is taken good care of but its not "over produced" its down to the ground doable. 3. Delivered by a believable, trustful, onest, sweet person with true knowledge that i feel wants to help me....the recipe for sucsess people. Well done and good luck to all you viewers!

The price competition thing - as someone who is always frugal I often go with at least the second to lowest price. It has bit me in the butt sometimes but other times I have been very happy paying almost the lowest price. But I have to remember that not everybody is as poor as me so not everybody thinks this way, not everybody is as frugal as me and would be willing to pay a bigger price than I would.

I am totally agree with you.
When I’m get down to this online stores I’m worried about same things cause such time consuming I do research for any trendy designs, I need to do a lots of settings for my online stores because people will look at your store by the first look then they will curious to your products unfortunately if you don’t have enough products then they will definitely disappointed. But without eye catching store front they won’t even curious. Luckily, I decided to hire a professional designer from Fierr. Not luxurious expensive! What a surprise! People are like me even can afforded! What a relief! I am thinking I might have to do the same to other two stores as well.
So! Yes, time is never enough for a beginner.
    Thanks Sarah!
You offers a lots knowledges as free gifts to people are struggling with their professions especially during this special time cause some of the industries simply cannot just pick up very fast after COVID. I’m in hospitality industry and I works in a hotel that is depends on tourists!
You seems like knowing what to do from earlier age and you know how to handle it and manage it. Yet, you made yourself abundance and now you starting to teach people how to create their own fortune at this difficult time.
You are truly amazing! Cheers for New Zealand !!

7:06 So true about who we sell to. Its a hard lesson, but very doable, which is why I'm sharing my example. I began by writing spy thrillers, but taught myself to write romance novels because they sell well. I haven't made a boatload of money yet, but at least there's a better market. You're awesome and right.

Hi! Is there any video where she talks about what country’s she recommends to sell to ? I’m following her process only because if find that a lot of “gurus” contradict themselves and I decided to stick to Sarah only.

This is one of my favorite videos of yours. This was when I realized I could do an online business. I realized, like you, I value time not money. I realized taxes aren't big and scary. You learned editing tricks and hiring people to make animations for your video will increase views! :D

I'm gonna save this video and rewatch it whenever I need a boost. I especially appreciated the unexpected mistake of not eating well. This is something I do daily and as a consequence my health stops me from getting things done. As well as being worried about losing money and in my case, getting into more debt, which to me is the same thing. I have a lot of mental and physical changes to make, but at least now I know where to start. Thank you! This is honestly the RUclips channel I value the most. Thank you for your hard work.

This is great, most of these I knew but there was 2 or 3 that I kind of never thought about enough. At the end, the time thing is what I'm just realizing right now, the money doesn't bother me too much as I have a full-time job and I'm making money in the stock market and I'm looking to start the e-commerce thing too at the end of the month.
These videos are great for information and entertainment.

Thanks for sharing, I greatly agree with everything on the list, especially number 6 and 7, I'm selling shirts on an Asian Online Selling Marketplace "Shopee", I sell printed shirts too under my own brand (still new just starter a month). If we compete on making our products cheaper, we will lose in the end, because those cheap products especially shirts from China are made of cheap materials, so they can sell them cheaper (like $5). But if we use higher quality base (plain) shirts like Bella and Canvas, Gildan, Fruit of the loom for out printed shirts, then we should not be ashamed of selling them at a higher price (like $15 to $20) because we know they are of quality. And customers like quality purchases so at the end, we'll get a positive Ratings from them.

Sarah, you have so many truly useful ideas and a lot of common sense. I have been watching your videos and gleaning much wisdom from your experience. One of the things that I zeroed in on and totally agree with is the fact that time is required to grow any lucrative business. I was always self-employed. I started out in my teens doing yard work and care-giving for elderly people. At 18, I moved into a 27-year specialty career tuning and repairing pianos, and giving private music and art lessons. Those jobs took YEARS to build up - and I could never make more than $2500.00 per month - usually less for a lot of very hard work and 14-hour days with three-plus hours on the road. Finally I had a horrid car crash in 2009 which took me out of the work force in my forties. I have been working from home ever since - making unique custom musical instruments. Again, I don't make much money at all with overhead, materials and labor. Like so many people, I would love to be able to work a little less hard and have a bit of fairly passive income...but I am mostly a creator and am business-challenged - plus being a loner with very little social activity. I may never strike a better balance or find my way into greater security - but I'm keeping an open mind and am willing to try different approaches. I'll keep watching your videos and thinking about it all - and you have a LOT of great ideas that could work for many people. Keep up the good work! Right now I'm trying out the print-on-demand idea...using my college fine arts degree to create both funny and creative wearable art - especially for musicians. I just started sharing my first creations with musician-friends on Facebook...I am identifying some wide-open possibilities that might be opportunities....we'll see.
