  • Here's a short video comparing the brand new BOSS OC-5 to the original 'brown box of doom' BOSS OC-2!
    In this video I'm using my F Bass VF5 in passive mode with the tone control halfway, both pickups up full, running into a Reiner Amplification 6SL7 Tube DI and then into my RME interface.

    One man opinion. OC-2 doesn't like another Boss pedals before. It sounds and tracks a bit different... At least in my setup.
    Thank for video! Very useful.

    I think it sounds pretty good, I really like the octave down sound of the OC2 and the OC5 does that well. I sold the OC2 I had cheaply a few years ago because it didn't seem to track so well, then got the MXR octave deluxe which tracks well as long as all the other strings are muted properly. It isn't the worst sounding octave pedal, but I do wish I had of hung on to that OC2 as well though. Well reviewed, thanks.

    Mate, the paint job on the old OC-2 is subtly so much better.

    Update your ACA oc2 to accept the 9V, it is a simple jumper across the two solder points (sitting one beside the other). I did it on mine, made the Adam Arts do the same, it is reversible, simple and impossible to mess it up. Unless you have extra 12V psu outputs unused that is.

      Historically OC2 and most of boss pedals use 9v! I had a Green labeled oc2 and modded to synth thingy... Justo NEVER USE 12V ON BOSS STANDARD PEDALS!

      @@hectoreduardofuentealbapel7830 please don't spread the ignorance and create myths. "Historically" there is Boss ACA PSU that outputs about 12V unregulated. Read the labels on your pedals.

    How low on your 5 string can you play the OC-5 before it loses tracking and turns to mush?

    Boss did an great job with the OC-5. It sounds even better while keeping that smooth OC-sound. It tracks better, and it has more verstile modes for different aplications!

    Why is it that when I hear this guy play with the 3 different Boss pedals I can't hear the difference, when I play my Mustang through an OC5 it should a bit crap when compared to my MIJ OC2?

    Great video as always, Craig. Cheers mate! I think I prefer the octave up and tracking of my pog, and akai unibass, and since I've modded my OC-2, I can't stop playing it. OTOH, having all that in one pedal is very cool...

    OC-5 sounds better in the band mix with the dry blended in (as you would actually use it). It sounds like fat robotic sledgehammer and you can clearly hear the lower octave in the mix. Wheras the OC-2 is so smooth it just sounds like a fatter version but you can't actually hear the lower octave clearly

      I agree with blended dry signal the OC5 sounds great in a mix, but I often use just the one octave down with no dry as a basis for synth tones and the OC2 has a bigger sound for that

    The OC-3 is the best pedal. The drive is limited but is acceptable for a basic overdrive to add to the other 5 overdrives that everybody all ready has.

      Thanks for watching! The OC3 is a decent octave pedal, I wasn’t aware of it’s overdrive capability

    • @Al_Mac125
      @Al_Mac125 2 года назад

      Yes it's quite useable. I had an 80s OC-2 for years in the 80s. The OC-3 tracks better. I don't use the poly function though.

      @@Al_Mac125 interesting that they never mention the drive function or have any controls for it on the pedal…

    • @Al_Mac125
      @Al_Mac125 2 года назад

      The 3rd knob from the left controls the overdrive when in drive mode. So you can use -octave + clean + drive or clean + drive. No tone for the drive of course but that's not a biggie. Good vid though btw.
