@@carlbModels i might up rate the servo's, and maybe some different tyres and beadlocks, but given the wheel/tyre combo on the golden goat cost more than the ravine.........
@@SharkysGarageRCandMore I think the tyres are fine - looks like the rear wheel steer takes you off the bridge - if you had 3 channels you would have better control. Which is something I need to do on a couple of my trucks! rws is cool until it gets you into trouble more times than it gets you out! the Ravine punches so far above its weight that it almost doesn't matter about the tyres - just look how good it is!
I received mine just the other day, such a capable rig! It's my first rc car and I definitely recommend it to anyone. I've never driven an rc crawler and filmed my first run yesterday. Free mods coming next haha
I've also found the steering arm flexes like crazy and causes bad bump steer (front and rear) so I ziptied an old car antenna on to stiffen it up and it works a treat!
I've found when climbing aggressive terrain one wheel can become lodged and your Ackerman angle goes haywire. Like enough to do definite damage if heavy throttle were applied. I essentially beefed up the linking arm and the wheels stay far more parallel to each other. It only happens on harder climbs or really grippy surfaces
We have the Danchee Ridgerock. The EXACT SAME RC as the FTX Ravine. We actually have two. I love it. If you put on good sticky tires I have the Danchee Ridgerock. The EXACT SAME RC as the it will climb trees. Nice video.
Yep, the original tires are a bit hard, but you can improve it a little by taking one bead clamp ring off and removing the foam filler. The tires are stiff enough to support the truck without them. Also add some weight to the axles. I used sticky backed alloy wheel balance weights, scrounged from my local tire fitting guys. Love this crawler course! Bedfordshire?
@@SharkysGarageRCandMore Ah yes, a friend has some wheel weights on his Gmade R1 crawler. They were made on a lathe by one of the guys at work using some scrap copper billets. It's a better idea than my sticky weights on top of the axles, because it's even nearer to the ground. Many years ago I was a tire fitter and would go to farms to fill their tractor tires with water. We had data about the max volume to apply, so that all the weight stayed below the center of the axles.
Just an FYI, the Redcat Danchee Ridgerunner is the same vehicle, and it is described by Redcat as "splash proof" but specifically states it is not water proof and should not be submerged. I assume that means the axles should not be submerged as the servo and motors are axle mounted.
Hoping you'll be able to help me out if you can please. Been looking for a RTR 4x4x4 monster truck. Would the Ravine be able to take big rims? If it would I'm thinking it'd be perfect. Not looking for performance. Just messing about. Cheers.
Yes, it has good clearance, you might need to fit bigger servos, but you should be able to fit the massive tyres off a cheap "Monster Jam" monster truck, as they are quite light.
@@SharkysGarageRCandMore cheers. Really appreciate the reply. Really don't want to be messing around with anything as I don't have the patience. Ah well, I shall continue on my quest. Cheers.
@@SharkysGarageRCandMore oh I know the wheels would be easy, it was just having to fanny about with the servos I was concerned about. I'll have a nosey into it all. Once again cheers for the reply.
I was looking into this for my son,but I've read that the outdrives are plastic with no option of metal upgrades. Otherwise this looks like a great little crawler. We may end up getting the Mauler.
Seems like everyone is a winner. The Capra is clearly smoother and a total boss but the Ftx holds it's own well. I don't know why so many slate it when it's so capable. I'm going to ask Santa for one...!
Since this time i have done a couple of tweaks to the Ravine, taken the foams out of the tyres, and gorrilla taped the body. Only other thing i might do is swap out the servos, but we will see how it runs next time out.
@@notlrachtron yeah I know but we haven't tried lipo but as far as I know there is no low voltage cut off on lipo but the NiMH do give a performance boost

Awesome trucks
@@SharkysGarageRCandMore amazing for the money. I like ftx stuff. You need extra steering channel and that would improve it so much. Nice vid!

J'adore le ravine, pour le budget et aussi les performances
That was a fun day hope you like the mods to the Ravine seems to work ok and a bit different from the norm
Great you had tomley with you 👊🏻👍🏻
Its almost like we spoke before hand and knew each other were going to be at the BERCC that day 😜
I put a bracket under the bonnet on mine to mount the batteries on. Its better with the c of g further forward. An incredibly capable vehicle.
Nice idea, i may try that.
Currently looking at body swapping to something interesting....

I saw a tip on another video that said to remove the foam inserts from the tires to make them softer and grab onto obstacles better.
Yup, did that on my latest video. The rain was the counterpoint to that.
@@SharkysGarageRCandMore how much does the remove foam mod actually work? or is it stop gap at best?

Ravine has so much potential but let down by tyres and a bit of weight. Bargain truck though 😎👍
Have another video with the foams out of the tyres, and more weight on the front axel, really helps.... Check out my Ravine Playlist

With metal beadlocks and good tyres, a lil extra weight on the front axle, this thing is kicking butt of way more expensive rigs
