I don't comment on youtube often but this review was exceptional. Fast moving, covering all the major features and attributes yet the whole clip still remained short. I also enjoyed that you give a narrative on the lens while we see photos demonstrating whatever aspect you are discussing. This is preferable in my mind to the usual video where we are watching a reviewer speak. Now I'm off to see what other lenses you've reviewed.

A small quibble - putting it on an A6400 really doesn't get you 270mm equivalent other than for FoV. A7mkIV - 35.7 x 23.8mm, 9504 x 6336 pixels = 60MP A6400 - 23.5 x 15.6mm, 6000 x 4000 pixels = 24MP A7mkIV - crop centre 23.5x15.6mm -> 6256 x 4153 pixels = 26MP So you get more pixels cropping the FF camera and the APS camera gives less, rather than more detail (a negligible amount, people won't perceive linear differences in resolution under 15%). Also it's much easier to find/track subjects with the wider FoV of the FF camera . Some of the bokeh in the sample images seemed a step down from that in the examples in the main part of the video. Are the images available somewhere at full-size? I really liked the video - please keep them coming! Ideally also at 4k to help viewing sample images. Thanks.
I assumed that putting it on a crop sensored camera was to illustrate how you could get the extra reach while saving cost and weight (with the smaller, lighter, cheaper camera body). Otherwise, I'd also just use the crop mode in the FF camera too, or crop in post.
@@AndrewSowerby You can get extra reach with a crop camera if you only consider low-MP FF cameras, but there's a lot of high-MP FF cameras around now, and has been for years. I just think people need to realise FoV isn't the same as reach. The latter depends on the whole imaging chain, including lens quality and pixel density. Although as high-MP FF cameras don't really get past crop cameras for pixel density it isn't a negative for FF if you are cropping. IMHO if you have a low-ish MP FF camera then to get extra reach you're probably better off trading it in for a high-MP FF camera rather than adding an APS camera (and keeping the FF so you can still use your wider lenses). If you do get a crop camera for reach then do you have to carry both? Buy crop wide angles?
I’m in that predicament. I own the A7iii and the a6000. If I go into to CROP MODE on my a7iii, my resolution gets knocked down to 10 mp. However, I’m 24 mp STRONGVon my a6000. I thought about the A7R series of cameras, but I ultimately decided they were not right for me at this time, considering my computer situation; it’s about finances now, and my older laptop would be a turtle with those big files. So yea, I’ll either carry one or two cameras depending on the situation.
@@standhd I spent some time debating getting an APS camera, as it was a WAY cheaper way to get extra reach over dropping 10k on a big white (never a possibility BTW). However what to do when you don't want the reach but want a wide end... Luckily high-MP FF rolled up and solved my dilemma...

Great lens from Tamron and nice review. Tamron is partially owned by Sony and unlike CaNikon, Sony has actually made it's AF algorithms publicly available in order to help with third party lens availability which in turn lowers the prices for consumers. So Tamrons AF speed and quality should be on par with Sonys own lenses.
Thanks. Good concise review that gets to heart of main benefits. I just ordered one (based on viewing multiple other reviews). My viewing here is just an exercise in post cognitive dissonance. Although you don't 'say' as it as such, I interpret from your video that you 'highly recommend' the set of trade offs that Tamron offer with this lens? You illustrate the lens central sharpness characteristics well, against the reference GM 70-200mm lens, which is helpful. Some comments or observations about edges, or at different focal length might have added to the overall value of the review, albeit I get it that you are limiting to a tight 10 min review which is a good thing. I'm looking forward to receiving my new T lens and doing my own detailed checks. I expect to shortly be selling my Sony 70-200 f4 G OSS. I imagine I will also lose out a tad on build quality too, but the small loss of possible durability (I'm usually careful) isn't likely to trouble me. Nor not having OSS, compatibility with a 1.4x or the absolute reach beyond 180mm. Physical size/weight, without sacrificing practical performance is the most important thing for me. 'I chose my current G 70-200mm lens, over the GM f2.8, for travel since heft and cost were important factors. I reasoned if/when I needed faster I could always up the ISO one stop or use one of my primes 55mm or 85mm - I always travel with a 55mm prime anyway since the absolute performance for it's small size is virtually unbeatable.
Appreciate the image gallery, but I don't understand why using such a high shutter speed, 1/3200, making the image super dark, just to increase the exposure in lightroom making the images super noisy? Most of the images are over 1/1000, this lens can do so much better, even at 180mm without IS

Did you change to aps-c mode for the crop factor for the wildlife photography?
