How Goth Makeup in the 90s Was Really Done by CHERRY DOLLFACE

  • I see a lot of videos of baby goths re-creating the glory days that they were born well after. Let me tell you… I started high school in 1996 and We didn’t contour or use eyeshadow or even think about our eyelashes or brows. We used three products if not less and we did it badly because no one had RUclips to learn by.
You saw club goths wearing the full white make up or corpse paint… But this is what us everyday suburban Teenagers did to look super cool. extra points if you used a lighter to bring your wet and wild eyeliner back to life.
It’s fun to recreate looks from the past with a modern twist… but I assure you, you young guns are doing it with way more skills and way more tools.

This is it. This is the most accurate one. And boy does it hurt. Remember trying to use that shitty liner but there'd be one spot that the wood was still on and you'd scrape it all along your eye? I do. ☹️

One of the best parts of this makeup routine is that you needn't be careful or precise while applying your mascara. In fact, that line of mascara you'd inevitably get just above the lashline often went harder (was a deeper black) than that 99 cent Wet n Wild liner. Not to mention if you really went in with the mascara it would fill in the lashline, and I'm telling you your liner will, to this day, never look better.

Happy to see someone other than me figured out adding the right colors (even a metallic plum shadow, play with to see what works for you). Sometimes black mascara run the brush under water let drip into the sucretes tin then add black chalk n chapstick. My little sister thought the eye liner was a color pencil n ruined it. Sooo "map color" or yellow number two pencil - get lots of mascara on the brush and dip the pencil in and viola --eye liner. Black chalk finely ground dumped in clear nail polish or top coat. Mascara brush scrapped across the top of nail polish bottle. Mixed messy but do able. Dark blues n red mixed together sometimes made black nail polish but they had to be same brands of nail polish or it mixed cruddy n often separated in the bottle.
