- Thousands of fans are standing beside the track to film this train: we are driving on the BR 23 023 of the Stoom Stichting Nederland with a maximum speed of 85 kph. This locomotive is pulling the Nostalgie Express today and it runs from Rotterdam via Gouda, Utrecht, 's-Hertogenbosch and Nijmegen to Arnhem. Finally the train continues to Beekbergen to fetch water and to turn the locomotive. Cabview Heritage is fully participating and this ride will be published in stages over the coming year. This is part 3 of the ride: We leave from 's-Hertogenbosch and drive to Arnhem via Nijmegen. Only 5:30 am here on 1 November 2022 when I see this post come out ... Puebla, México. Am I awake? Is this a dream, an out-of-body-experience or more? Thought I had passed on to la gran más allá (the great beyond). For only being about 4 months ago, I was so surprised at the nostalgia I felt. I said Hello to all the trainspotters, told them they were doing a great job, and said Thank You to Señor Cabview... all during my life review. Then a sip of coffee and a bite of my powdered donut and ... swoosh! I was back in my body, awake enjoying just another Cabview Holland Dutch Railways video. Gracias por la nostalgía sentía (I felt) y viaje (trip). I thought it was all over but the shouting here, boss. Good one! RT sends, Puebla, México...

That trainspotter at Nijmegen was not at all happy the Koploper showed up, was she?
Nijmegen Lent 2013. ??? Ehhh, meester, daarvoor was er al een station Nijmegen Lent, alleen een paar honderd meter dichter bij station Nijmegen (net over de brug)., dus er was al eerder een station, maar op een (iets) andere locatie.
Dan staat er toch niets wat niet klopt?
en nou nog even door de schiphol tunnel met dat ding :P denk dat er toch aardig wat routes zijn met mooie witte schone stations die niet alle ramen van het dak willen lappen (of die gewoon geheel of gedeeltelijk ondergronds zijn ;) en waar je dus de gehele route niet kan rijden met zoiets omdat er zo'n station ergens in het midden zit. :P danwel omdat meteen alle brandalarmen afgaan :P

I don't know; while I really like cabview-rides in general, with a steam-train it seems to me to be a waste of potential visuals not to show the steam-train as such... If at least they had placed the camera inside the cab so we could witness the driver and the chauffeur doing their jobs - this would have been pretty pleasing to see....

Why is the engine/tender backwards? Non-standard couplings? Doesn't tender-forward screw up sight-lines and aerodynamics? (was fireman on diesel-fired steam back when)

So it can't really turn around easy, I think.
This is most likely the return trip. Only way to have locomotive always facing the right way is through the use of a turntable or a "wye." Both of these are usually only available at a railyard.
The train needs in this trip to change drive directions to get on his destination. In the Netherlands are in the public railway no turntable's left. Only a few railmuseum have a turntable. Only in Beekbergen, Rotterdam, Simpelveld are turntable's reachable for trains on Dutch public railroad.
Lack of turntables means runniing backwards. What are the implications? Speed restrictions, extra signal watch, difficulties reading gauges behind your back or any of these?
From extensive travelling on both Dutch and German railways during the 1970's with steam it was always clear that they were far more practical and adopted a 'can do' attitude rather than a 'we can't do that' attitude.
Stop - Start running, including tender first running......and coupling and un-coupling have always been pretty slick operations.
Switching from Electric Traction to Steam.....and vice-versa..... at Reine for trains up to Emden and Norrdeich Mole was always very impressive.
They always had a regard for people being trackside, be they enthusiasts or just members of the public, having more commonsense too.
If you were trackside watching or photographing a train, then any approaching other train invariably slowed down and sounded their whistle. People recognised this for what it was and kept or moved out of the way......

@@TonVerkleijT3 Alle stoomritten verschijnen in verschillende versies omdat de smaken nogal verschillen. De versies met meer camera angles hebben in de thumbnail het "multicam" logo.

Notice the simple Overhead Catenary with more than adequate open sight lines.....and signals in their normal positions without being encased in an abundance of caging.
Clear any Dutch Signal Technicians climbing a signal post, (which are actually nowhere near the overhead line), have more commonsense than their UK counterparts, who must be 'protected'....

Is erg mooi zo iets is er niet meer maar bespaart veel stroom
Zulke oude treinen waren voor 2 personen stoker en de machinist het was erg hard werkken want het vuur moest goed branden en veel water om stoom te maken en zorgen dat de manometers corec in de stands bleven
Goed branden en de manometers moesten goed staan voor stoom
