Like others have said, it's difficult to hear Kent unless I turn the volume up, but then when Trenton & Kirk join in it's too loud. Always enjoy Kent's contributions though so I'd love to have him with a mic

I agree with most...Kent needed a microphone...it would have been nice to have seen the brackets. Even better if you could you grab some clips from the tastings and showed some of you reactions about the high/low lights of the "Bourboney". Keep up the great work...still my go to channel for bourbon tasting notes!

Congrats to Purdue for making final 4 and for SLB in completing this interesting tasting tourney. The problem with this format is no one can remember the matchups and what beat what because they weren’t discussed at the time

Great tournament. I like how things went. Seems like there was some negativity you were getting on how it played out. For me, it was fun to watch.
I do like the idea for next year. Having the same drinks does allow better discussion. Having Kent in there does allow for a tie breaker. Loser's bracket is also a great idea.
I'm looking forward to next year.
PS... yes, it was hard to hear Kent at first, but as the video went on, I got used to it. I liked his recap.

Next year, how about seeding bottles by price? The higher the price, the higher the seed. That would give some interesting upsets.

I concur with yj2qq9jt9l.... probably give Kent a microphone next time, or whenever someone else is contributing to the conversation. It is hard to hear Kent, but if I turn the volume up really loud to hear Kent, then Kurt and Trenton are both too loud. But great tournament, guys!

I had the two jacks doing very well for Kurt, and not so well for Trenton. Very shocked how that turned out

Yes, a seeded bracket is brutal for underdogs, but they do it to "protect" the highest seeds from hitting each other in early rounds.
In football/soccer cups, they just pull names out of the hat each round, so you get some powerhouse matchups early, and some teams get an easier path. It's all luck.
The method I use for the BookTube Prize also cuts the field in half each round, but without a set bracket. One of the things you mentioned more than once is that you wished you could advance both A and B, and eliminate C and D, but couldn't because of the brackets. My group structure might be the way to solve that. Just thoughts...
I do think from a viewing perspective, it's a little confusing having two separate tournaments. I'd love to see you tasting the same things each round, but adding a third judge (Kent or Michelle?) so that there can't be any ties. (I'm here for you if you want to do something like this. I live for setting up competitions/events.) -- Sorry for the graduate thesis-length post. 🤦♂
p.s. If you decide to keep the bracket format, switching to a double-elimination format gets Kurt's idea of the loser's bracket accomplished.
If I had a suggestion for future years. I would keep all finished and double barrel products out as well as single barrels that really vary batch to batch. Do a separate finished double barrel bracket. To celebrate those achievements…. That way it’s strictly a more even playing field. I’d also live to see ryes get there own bracket😊
They didnt pick the bottles. It was voted on by patreon. Its what the majority of people that pay to watch wanted to see, and it would be way way way too long/much to do 4 different tournaments. The way its done is just fine

Trenton, in places like Lexington (U of KY) and Durham (Duke), divorces are contested over basketball season tickets! For the Duke-UNC games, students camp in tents for days and days to be in line to get a ticket. Insanity!

I've never done a bracket before so I'd be interested to see the winning brackets for Trenton. I missed 4 in the first round and 1 in the second but got all the others. I thought I did very nice on his bracket but maybe not.

Prices vary so much by area, and there's secondary prices that vary so much because they cant be bought at msrp. You want prices, google it

Another great year of Bourbon Madness! I did better in this than I did with my bracket for March Madness, but still ended up back in the pack. But it was a lot of fun and you guys did another great job with it. Wait 'till next year!!!
The MM101 beating JD12 made me go buy a bottle of MM101 as it was a makers I hadn't tried.
It's in exact parity in enjoyment for me with Turkey 101 and OF 100. A mixer that you can sip and enjoy. If I ordered it at a bar, I wouldn't order another. I will say it's worth the extra 20% over the standard Makers... but that's about the nicest thing I can say about it. $40 bottle that competes with $20-30 bottles... not a prize in my book.
How it beat something like Jack 12, I will never understand. Must be the cauliflower.
To put it in perspective... I'd expect Cellar Aged vs Jack 12 to be a legit fight... and if I got a blind of MM101 next to cellar aged... I'd laugh and ask if you were serious. Pretty stark/obvious quality disparity.
Honestly thought there was a mix-up and Kurt was actually comparing JD12 to Cellar Aged

American Idol style for next year sounds like the way. Also, Kent's palate is really really good, and I love that he is a rye guy like Trenton, which will kind of skew obviously as a tie breaker sometimes and Kurt will get the shaft... but I'm sure he'll be able to find the monster load. LOL

My Gosh will someone teach Trenton something to do with sports if you going to have a March madness bracket. Tape his eyes open and tie him up in front of the TV. Teach him that yes a 16 seed plays a number one seed. Trenton says that’s not fair, give the 16 seeds a chance. However he doesn’t think about needing to reward the season long dominance of the number one seed by giving them an easier game. Come on Trenton get with the sport.

I’m convinced Kurt had something different in his glass. Makers 101 was one of the most disappointing pours I’ve ever had. I was expecting a decent bottom-mid shelf sip with the typical Makers notes I like, yet I was still majorly disappointed.

Trenton resisted this elaborate scheme until they agreed that if he went along with it, they'd let him shit on rare breed. And Kurt's caveat to that was they had to let Rare Breed beat Jack Daniels 12 through the transitive property.

I was able to make it to Glenn’s Creek a couple weeks back and it really is great stuff, but to each their own. No hard feelings.
According to Dave, when I was down there, he’s met Kurt and Trent twice, so that’s the level of friends they are, for what it’s worth.
Maybe, just maybe, they had the same feeling I did when I left there and that was to really root for Dave being the underdog and hope he succeeds on his journey.
