I honestly think it was because when you go grimdark your mind works on pure unadultered anger...but what broke my heart even more was when John found her u.u John might have been so happy, his first interaction with his good friend Rose! And to top it off he would get to see his dad again :D...it just hurts so much cause Rose is too messed up and can't tell him so, he has to see it for himself u_u

Homestuck tells an epic story in the background about heroes overcoming death and banding together to find mutual meaning in Lord English's destruction and the creation of paradise.
And then it proceeds to question whether paradise could ever be a fulfilling experience for mortals and concludes that, no, the idyll required for perpetual satisfaction is horrifying.
after months of looking at this image, I just NOW realized it's Grim Dark Rose's back of head. I thought for the longest time it was some abstraction of not showing her face like the Dancestors.
