It is interesting to note that the origins of Castilian Spanish originates in a town called Valladolid in the region of castile-leon located in the north west part of Spain, just north of Madrid and east of Zamora in wine country. It is known as the birthplace of Kings , and the town where Christopher Columbus died as well as the home of many famous spanish writers among them was Miguel de Cervantes author of "Don Quixote". The connection with sephardic jews leaving Spain and coming to Ecuador is fascinating bc they as well as the moors were persecuted by the government and then were expulsed from Spain by king Ferdinand and Queen Isabella during the spanish inquisition, beginning in May of 1492, Columbus left for the Indies in August of that same year. It was interesting to find out about the history of the Sephardic jewish Population in Ecuador and the speaking of Castilian spanish and the reason why they came to South America eventually coming to Ecuador during that time of persecution in 1492 and the fact that Valladolid Spain being the origin and home of Castilian Spanish was venerated at the time as a colonial city known as Valladolid Ecuador, which is known today as the rural parish of Palanda which was built over the Old spanish colonial city of Valladolid, which was established in 1557. In 1932 new settlers began to migrate to the ruins and repopulate the city of Valladolid it was elevated to the category of the rural parish of Palanda in 1963. And Loja is only a couple hours away from Palanda (Valladolid) That all ties in rather nicely, don't ya think? it all came around full circle.
