Great and informative. Thanks Dennis. I'm going to grab one myself.
Cheers Denis , not bad for the money , thanks
HEY! I literraly just got one of these for my birthday from my mom, it's a pretty cool little device. I wound an antenna and was using it to analyse the incoming waveforms since I was investigating rectifying rf energy. I also used it to set the resonant frequency of my dc-dc boost converter.
We'll have to get together for coffee again sometime soon.
nice little gift!
yes, we're past due to get together 4sure
Pretty cool Denis
Thank you Dennis.
The information was great particularly showing how to work within the limitations of this scope.
I want this type of "portable" scope to throw behind the car seat in the electical tool box and this looks good. At this price who cares if I drop it of the edge of a building or some drug addicts steals it.
All the other reviewers compare this scope to their lab scope and point out the compared failings which is wrong. They need to roll around under a car to find the crank sensor or under the dirty hot dash near the OBD2 connector or in a greasy CNC factory setting like you said and do the comparisons there.
A few more videos of tests around a car would be great. Thanks again.
thx for this comment, Mark
I took the glass is half full approach. This thing is capable and it's under $80 USD. Has a place in our tool kit.
even if it ain't the best scope you can get - it still gives a lot for not much cash compared to even an entry level Fluke or Uni-T DMM just looking at the prices... I'm impressed!
exactly how we should view it...a lot of capability for the buck!
thx for watching and comment:)
Nice video
thx:)
I purchased one of these, pretty decent unit for the money. My big complaint is there are no horizontal or verticle cursors. I have a scope that was less than half the price that has cursors. I also have the FNIRSI 1013D stand alone 2 channel that also has cursors. As a comparrison I also have the Owon HD272S which is a similar piece of equipment, it also has both verticle and horizontal cursors. I contacted FNIRSI regarding this issue, their response was that cursors may be added with a software update at some point. No date was given though.
thx for sharing the FNIRSI reply
yep, for now we have to use the graticules (as my friend The Gibby 3340 would say)
Another great video and explanation, thanks Denis for taking the time
""""Still my to go scope is the HS402 with android,do you think will be nice to have some like this HS402 with screen and buttons
a few years ago, I was toying with the idea of an all-in-1 HS402 +screen (no USB cable)
I looked at using a Pi3 with a 3.5" touch screen...that didn't work out
then I thought of using an older Android tablet, stripping it down, making a case for those guts + HS402 circuit...didn't go through with it
Same idiosyncrasies as the DSO152. Still, once you are aware of its limitations…no biggie. I like it. Hantek‘s TO1000 series was a huge letdown, I’ll be watching the Fnirsi product line. Cheers Denis 🍻
totally agree, Ian
Great video, I only do some very low level electronics but I am about to fit a gs100502 sensor to my land rover to read the flywheel teeth for a tacho. I wanted a cheapish scope to check the reading but this seems to be great as it will also replace my cheapo multimeter. Cheers
it's not a full featured oscilloscope but for quick readings and combo multimeter and for the price, it's worth it
and it's growing on me each time I use it
thx for comment
I don't know which Land Rover you have, but most altenators have an electrical post that gives a pulse for a tacho, incase you didn't know. But I forget what it's labelled as 😅
@warwickbunn1250 Yeah, called the W terminal, I think. I'd need to fit one to my alternator, but I thought I'd go with a different approach!
@@killerbanjo Yes I think that's the one. Why not take a different approach 😁 as it could be more accurate and more useful for checking timing issues. Have fun.
Pretty cool, but I won't be replacing the HS402 you introduced me to, anytime soon. 👍
👍👍👍 glad you like it:)
this can not replace a full featured oscilloscope, especially not HSxxx scopes
but for a quick and dirty capture this low cost 2C23T has a place in my tool kit
Thank you for the great information. Could you provide more information on the BNC-BNC cable? I see there are 10ohm and 50ohm 1ft cables available.
I used this 0.5 meter BNC-BNC cable. According to seller it is 75Ω

Good vid. Did you see the Rotkee one that Mechanic Mindset posted? I did a preorder for one. I’m still considering the HS502 also but it’s hard to justify when I already have the Pico.
so many oscilloscopes, so little time:)
I do like Rotkee products but only marginally familiar with their new ExaPen
👍
Does the signal generator function have a variable output for signal level?
it is variable but only from 0.1v to 3.3v in 0.1v increments
the other "drawback" to the waveform generator is no 0 offset...for example, the sine can not be centered on 0v
Pretty cool, i like my uscope but i hate it's battery life and charging only will occur when the unit is on... And a single channel is limiting. I'm curious about how the tool in this video performs in direct sunlight, I'm a mobile tech and the sun can make the screen un readable 😂
haven't tested in bright sunlight (and not getting too many of those these days😏) ... but I imagine with its black background it could be an issue
it's the reason Martin introduced a white background option in HScope as that tends to perform better in sunlight
@@theGADGETSplaylist it helps but the nit rating is very helpful, I had to get a better laptop to see my pico images on sunny days 😂 my snap on verus d10 is unusable unless I'm sitting in the car on a cloudy day or at night lol. The uscope is pretty good in the sun though
Can you please show your charging set up for hs502? Thank you sir.
not sure I understand your question, James...
Sorry, the four oscilloscope that I own before the hs502 have internal batteries. On the hscope in the settings menu under system there is a battery life. I confused it as the scope battery. Sorry. Rookie mistake.
Any thougts on the LOTO?
I do like LOTO products and have reviewed OSC482 and OSC2002 on this channel. Being ±5v scopes, they may not be the best option for automotive work
hands down, Martin's HS502 ±16v or HS512 ±32v are the best budget options...by far!
@@theGADGETSplaylist LOTO has a automotive adapter for 12v. But my need is mostly portable scope for Ham radio - which is 18v DC power but of course most circuits are 5v.
I will check out. Much appreciated!
You could also just update the firmware.
did that
@@theGADGETSplaylist Did it make a difference at all wit the software glitches? Also have you updated it as of this month? I hear they were supposed to fix the issues that you pointed out.
@@0nemoa I updated prior to making the video
I have not seen any further available updates on their site since
All these "handheld" oscilloscopes have too slow sampling rates at most time bases, which leads to horrible aliasing just like you showed. I think it must be because they don't have enough waveform memory to run at a higher sampling rate at longer timebases. The Owon ones are a bit better (and the price reflects that too), but you can't beat a good ol' bench scope which runs at much higher sampling rates at every timebase and doesn't give these misleading aliased signals. I just recently bought a Zotek and a Owon handheld - the form factor is nice, but it's tough to beat the Agilent MSO-X 2000 series on my bench!
2C23T is not a replacement for your bench oscilloscope, to be sure:)
@@theGADGETSplaylist Yeah, and I didn't buy it to be a replacement for the bench scope - there's some places a multi thousand dollar scope shouldn't go - on a ladder, in the rain, in a greasy cnc machine electrical cabinet, etc. But, because they're inexpensive, they'll be a lot of people's first and or only scope, and the aliasing issues are a huge "trap for young players" as Dave would say! Another common problem on these scopes is if you put the current leads into the A jacks, but have the dial on mA (or vice versa), you get completely incorrect readings on the dmm. Probably worth checking that on the Fnirsi as well, as it's a common problem on the others.
