Breaking All Illusions is probably the greatest song DT ever made. I've listened to it a million times and STILL don't get tired of it. It encapsulates what the band is all about.
That album has been at the top of my Playlist for years now and it still moves me.
I love characters like John Myung, who quietly stay in the background, yet always calmly, reliably and flawlessly set a basis for everyone else to depend and build upon.
So does Robert Fripp. Which is why I love him.

My Favourite Song with Mike Mangini!!
This Petrucci’s solo almost makes me cry. God it’s so deep. Too much passion on it. There’s so many amazing bands around the world that I love but DT is so above of all them. Nothing compares. So simple as that. Enjoy the show in Orlando. You guys deserve it! I’ll be waiting for them here in Brazil, it’s gonna be my 8th DT show. You’re the best! Be in peace!

To me, Breaking All Illusions is one of DT's best songs - actually I think it's one of the best songs ever written, it's fantastic. The guitarsolos give me goosebumps... Whenever I try out new speakers I want to play Breaking All Illusions (the studio version) and crank it up to hear how the speaker(s) perform...
100%!! One of my favorite songs ever. The only thing I have to respectfully disagree on is that the whole A Dramatic Turn of Events album has a really poor mix. It’s my dream that one day that album would be re-mixed to sound as good as Distance Over Time, sonically. Because musically, ADTOE is one of my favorite albums ever, and Breaking All Illusions is right at the front!
Each of these guys are masters of their craft. It's just soo good and true.
I had the tremendous luck of seeing this song live up front in 2017....it was absolutely epic and a dream come true after having watched this DVD performance over like 100 times.
unfortunately i couldn't get to the concert fronm this tour and i regret it to this day. watched this performance over 100 times and goosebumps all the time. Wish they would perform it again
The Shattered Fortress on this same concert is absolutely bonkers!!! Mangini really goes off!!
Yeah that song in particular was the performance where Mangini forever destroyed the critics.
Shattered Fortress would be great. But i think the only way to get the full excitement of it is to listen to the whole 12 step suite first. ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻(The Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, Root of all Evil, Repentance, and then The Shattered Fortress)

Sound like "Learning to Life". One of my favorite DT songs. But this song ..oh my God..TOP OF THE LIST. And the guitar solo..one of the best. GOOSEBUMPS.

#KelandRich, while you will be rocking to Dream Theater Wednesday night, I will be rocking to Yngwie Malmsteen that same night in Baton Rouge. My son is taking me. He's been playing lead guitar since he was 14, and now he's 42. Damn, I feel old!!! Malmsteen is just one of his many favorite guitar players. This will be my second time seeing him, and my son's third. Anyway, I hope you both have a fantastic time!!! Happy Anniversary/Birthday!!! \m/

I love this song. It is a musical workout no matter which instrument you play. I player guitar and I am not even willing to take a shot at this.There are 2 Japanese kids that play a guitar/keyboard cover of this song; it is a pretty good cover.

Dream Theater is one of my very favorite bands, and their songs stir every one of my emotions with all the power, melody, harmony, dynamics, time signature changes, incredible solos, and great singing. I have been a huge fan of that band ever since I first bought their Images and Words album in 1992 after hearing their song "Pull Me Under" on the radio. Total eargasm! :)
Just saw them on April 15! They were amazing!!! As always! 3rd Time and will be see them again!!!
Awesome, DC? I saw them in Philly on the 13th. James absolutely NAILED it!! I was worried about James going in because I hadn’t seen them since Chaos In Motion. My one gripe is that the show was incredibly loud, but maybe that was just the venue acoustics

The thing I love about you guys is the love you have for music and each other. It's just a wonderful thing to see 2 people that just love being together and sharing that with the world.
When I met you at the dream theater concert I didn't know yall had a RUclips channel. I was between the bar and the mixing console and I saw these 2 friendly smiling dream theater fans and I struck a conversation up with yall. You both exude the love you share for each other and for music and it really affected me in a positive way. Once the show started and we all went to our seats I lost track of yall but I had a big smile for a week after the epic performance that we witnessed that night. It was a big surprise to me when I found your channel and I was hooked. Then after watching several videos I felt like I know these 2. Finally your DT reactions confirmed where I met yall. It was really a pleasure and I hope we meet again someday at another epic DT show.

I think many people don't like Mangini because he makes it look so easy. I think he is a beast on the kit. I'm glad he was Portnoy's replacement even though Portnoy was an absolute beast himself.

I felt the same way when they changed over to Mangini but I got over it because there's no one else making music on the level Dream Theater is at. Mangini just has a different type of groove that I now feel is perfect for post-Portnoy Dream Theater.
@@alanalanis2257 Nobody else.... oh come on! DT has been making predictable, boring garbage on their last records. Go with Haken to have the exact same genre of music done better, or with Leprous to experience a whole new fresh level of prog rock/metal.

I was at this show great seats too 8th row with JP right in front of us , I have seen them a lot and many other bands this was my first time being at a recorded concert so glad they made the Dvd of my favorite band and I got a keepsake . check out there new album it great.

I can't put my finger on the "Why", but this solo is my favourite from Petrucci in general...It's just filled to the core with so much emotion...I think the studio version is still the best one though...

If you love progressive metal, one of the greatest band to search for is Symphony X, espacially the song : The Divine Wings of Tragedy ( from the album of the same name ), you will probably reconise what classical piece influence that song. ( The Accolade is also great, but more like progressive metal )
PS : if you are also interested by other instrumental music and guitar heroes, ask me, I have plenty of awesome songs and albums, from different guitarist, some less known but extremely talented.
