Can you believe the band Kicked out Derek Holt over the song, refused to tour to support it. So, we should call it Derek Holt song, only time he performed it live in the USA was in a karaoke bar in Clearwater Florida. It never got an international release because they would perform it.

Great behind the scenes story where the singer many years later was at a Tampa bar and karaoke was going on. Derek Holt, the singer, not only sang the song, he wrote it. The irony is, this song essentially broke up the band. There are no live recordings of the song because other members flat refused to perform the song while on tour. Why? Envy, they didn't want to promote a song from which only Holt would receive royalties. Shortly before Holt wrote this song the band voted about splitting royalties evenly between the members. That vote was to keep royalties proportionate to the amount of input to a given song. Since Holt wrote they lyrics and orchestrated the entire song, his royalty share was 100%.

As a 54 yr old male this song is what I listened to back in the 80s. Meeting women and relationships was so much different back then. You would meet a female and she would give you her phone number and it was a landline shared by the whole family. When I called to speak to her I spoke to the parents first then her. I remember sitting in the car and when this came on we talked about our future and made out all night long on a side street. I have been single for 10 years now and will remain so because nowadays true love is lost. Social media and texting has taken over. Back in the day if a woman gave you her number she couldn't give it out to too many guys because her parents would wonder what was going on. Nowadays a woman can give her a number out to numerous guys, her Instagram or SnapChat etc.. I'll just sit back and listen to this song. I remember the good old days.

The lyrics are everything. I've absolutely adored this song from the moment I heard it back in the day, it's soo heartfelt, one of those songs you look back on, after years of marriage. "If ever a man had it all, it would have to be me, and oooo, I love you" my fav line in this cut. This one's a keeper you guys!!!

Jay and Amber you 2 are amazing, watch you 2 all the time, I'm 61 years old, I'm still an 80's hairband guy, but I listen to music from the 50's to now, country, blues hard rock and soul, I love some older blues, my favorite

Yep...a beautiful song. This song was the MOST requested and dedicated at the skating rink during couple's skate. The lyrics say everything a woman wants to hear. My love story to this song went so well with the lyrics. He was young, wild and a troubled kid. I came into his life and tamed the wild beast in him...to a degree...LOL!! We had a rough relationship, we had good times and bad...but we always came thru for 14 years. We had two sons....who he LOVED so much. But he just could not get it together, drinking and the trouble that comes with it....I could not continue especially with kids along for the ride. I left. He went to prison for years for several charges...all because of drinking. When he got out...and I had moved away....he reached out...came to visit....and admitted to me that after all he put me through...I was always still standing there for him. He said I was the cement that kept us together all those years and I was the MOST stubborn, strong woman he had ever known. And he apologized for not seeing that right before his eyes, all those years of chaos, that his best friend was sleeping right beside him every night...and he did not even see it until I was gone. I still loved him...but there was too much baggage and too much scarring from all that he had put me through so I couldn't even fathom getting back together with him. We had a better friendship apart than we did together. He got killed in 2010 about 3 months after he poured his heart out to me. And that put another scar on my heart. To this day...I am still single...my kids are grown now and I have 4 grand kids and one on the way. If he were here...those grand kids would be so spoiled. He messed up a lot when it came to us....but the kids...he put his heart into everything he did for them. The grand kids would be ruined from being spoiled rotten. LOL To this day...I still love him.

Old school songs were more often than not about appreciating our partners.
Songs like this came out once a year so that everyone was playing them on Valentines Day to their sweethearts.
Remember Ladies… We Love you 🎉
The Ladies had songs of their own to play for their man, like Come To Me by James Ingram.
We did a lot of communicating between the sexes with our music … back then. 😊

An S tier song for sure! It's one of the last 45s I ever purchased. From 1980 I love it completely. It's enough to make a grown mean cry. That's exactly how I feel about my wife.

Their other big American hit was a few years before this one, it was called Couldn't Get It Right and it is completely different than this song, it is more like you would expect them to sound like from the name of the band.
