Hi, I just saw how Arne and Carlos use little bits to crochet modular flowers for an afghan. And they like to do this in the Spring. I enjoy your vlog so much! Sara
Thanks for another fun episode! I especially loved the Angela Lansbury movie recap. And Scott, just keep on picturing us there on the other side of your camera, because we're definitely there with you 😊
I love the Betty Ann stories! But then I thrive with a solid dose of hyperbole and satire in my week. Love you guys. Your show is a highlight of my week.
I had a dog named Buttons. He was a miniature apricot poodle with brown eyes & nose that looked like buttons on his fluffy little puppy face. He was a great pal through a lot of life's ups & downs when I was younger. Happy New Year to you. Glad you're being safe in your travel plans. Enjoy. It's been a pleasure spending this year with you & your amazing FOs, WIPs, often witty conversation & furry friends!! Wishing all of us a safe & healthy 2021 with a return to some normalcy.... If I even remember what that's like!! 😅
Scott, that hat turned out terrific. Love how the yarn pooling took place. P.S. I wish I were one of your neighbors! LOL AND....YOU NEED TO HAVE BETTY ANN ON THE SHOW!
I am SOO glad you liked my suggestion enough to mention it in to knit cast! And thank you for saying my name correctly! That is so rare! Also, you have gotten me hooked on team 9 inch circulars... im a continental picker... pretty small, semi stubby hands... maybe it's a hand size thing
The Ross hat is great and I have made many. Enjoy watching you both tonight and I loved the hats you both made. I loved the color of your socks. I have never tried to use DK on socks and may have to give it a try.
Thank you for a lovely podcast. I don't like changing my sock knitting because it is my 'don't have to think' knitting. You make my day better with your podcast. Hope you have a Happy New Year.
I LOVE how the yarn pooled on your neighbors hat. That pattern reminds me a lot of The Weekender which is actually knit wrong side out so you can knit and not purl;) I loved the AL recap!! Brilliant.
A fun episode! Your finished objects look great, and that tam is fabulous. I’ll put in a plug for Nanny McPhee. It’s an enjoyable movie and Ms Lansbury is fun in it.
Love your fiber casts so much. I start checking on Monday to see if there is a new one. I love making knitted ornaments too and plan to make more all year also. I usually start making them in November for two groups I am in. Then I find another cute one and have to try it so usually I end up doing at least a dozen to 20 and keep at least half for me. Just fun!!!!
I thought you weren't going to mention my favourite Angela Lansbury but Scott popped it in at the end - Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris. She is such fun in this one. I will have to watch The Summer of the Seventeenth Doll as that is an Australian play that I studied in high school. And it was actually filmed in Australia - not just a film set made to look like it! I found the whole movie on RUclips so that will be a reminder of my high school years. I'll have to see if I still know it off by heart! It was released as Season of Passion in the US. Happy New Year and lots of happy knitting in 2021!
Hi guys. Enjoying your podcast. I made all 24 Christmas balls in December. Towards the end I ran out of hobbystore bought stuffing so I got the pillow called INNER from IKEA. It was actually much nicer. Love Eileen
Another great podcast and I'm so glad it'll be one of my last podcasts of 2020 - I need these bright spots!! I love the way you look at John, Scott - very lovingly always, I also love your very "heavy" wine pour!! I have enjoyed all of your podcasts very much and I hope to see more of you in 2021 - perhaps we will get to meet some day to share yarn and inspiration!! Also, love that you share your Mom with us - I lost mine in 2017 so this brings me joy! Hugs and Happy new Year to you both!!
I knot my socks the same way- 9” circulars for the cuff and leg, dpns for the heel flap and turn then switch to 9” for gusset and foot, but use magic loop for toe(no idea why) When I knit the fish lips kiss heel I do nit have to switch to DPNs. It is very easy to memorize so if you knit a few pairs with the FLK heel you probably won’t need the pattern anymore
Thanks for mentioning the ‘Susan’ correction. We ‘Susans’ are all unique and should never be confused! 😌 Loved your parts in the Holiday Concert Scott! Great voice! Have a healthy New Year guys. 💕
Good Day 🦩 Another fun podcast. Thank you! ... Scott, you might use some of your left over sock yarn for Santiago socks. Tin Can Knits gas a good pattern for little ones. I just use the cast on recommended and knit my vanilla sock. First pair of happy socks for grandson was at 1 year. He just loved them, and has loved every pair I have made. Now at 3 years (6" foot) they only take 33 grams. ... The knitted annual Christmas ornament is a great idea! .... Loved both hat patterns. Thanks for the ideas. .... John put a lot of love in Scott's socks. I bet they are awesome. Good work, and perseverance.
🌹 Hiiiiii my darlings!! Well I was going to go to bed, since it’s 10:25pm here in California, but this is soooo much better than sleep! 😀 Happy and Merry everything luvs!
I love your teapot. I‘ve knit 2 ornaments a month for the last 2 years, and it really took pressure off my December knitting. This year I‘m taking a break from ornaments and doing 2 dishcloths a month for Christmas gifts.
hi boys! hope you have a great start to the new year! Lisette will appreciate those socks, i live in Ohio, near Lake Erie and i wear socks year round, shorties are perfect even in the Summer, i wear them when the A/C is on with hardwood floors! Berets are very fashionable, my GDs have all worn them at one time or the other, that pattern is sweet! your June hat is gorgeous, i have looked at that pattern and wanted to knit it, i am going stash divining for one of those special skeins! have a safe holiday, hugs to you and your fur kids as well, stay well!! ♥
Scott, have you ever thought about doing a marled blanket with your partial balls of sock yarn? I am, with a lace pattern called Undercover, that started from the center out so I can stop at any point. You might be able to make the perfect toddler blanket for Santiago...did I miss why one DK sock had a white strip on the foot and the other didn't?
I LOVE that you are making hats for your neighbors! I think it is so kind! My daughter who also lives in Minnesota is making hats for her wonderful neighbors. What a coincidence! Or is it a Minnesota thing? 😄. She has finished 4 and has one to go!
I *LOVED* The First Olympics: 1896 when it first aired. As I recall, NBC created it to run as counterprogramming for the 1984 Summer Olympics that were being broadcast on ABC.
Scott, I am so with you on not procrastiknitting at the holidays! Maybe you guys could host a 'Christmas in July" KAL to do balls and ornaments. That would be easy knitting during the summer heat. I also use 9" circulars for socks, can't imagine using anything else now. You might try just putting your instep stitches on another 9" and letting it dangle. I find that less fiddly when turning my heel. Happy New Year to you both!
I taught my hubby to knit continental, which I can't do to save my life... Completly inept left hand... He's knitting his first sock. Had him do magic loop, which I can't stand, for the ribbing. Then I had him try 9 in circulars. He likes them... He's got biggish hands and does continental, and he's a lefty. Probably going to have him do a forethought heel. I personally do the FLK heel and have had it memorized since my first sock... No looking at a pattern. I only switch to dpns when I'm decreasing for the toe.
Hi Guys! Happy New Year! Question for John, what resources did he use to learn portuguese knitting techniques? The hat is called a tammoshanter, spelled phonetically and is irish/scottish in heritage. If you have not done a Ross hat yet, you are going to love the pattern.
Make a KAL for Christmas Ornaments and we can all start knitting ornaments every week/month so that by Christmas we'll have a bunch to send out in time for the holidays! That's what I have plan to do that and it would be fun to have it all on one page to share between us! :D Just call me dd. You two rock!!!
Watching your show for the first time. John, just wanted to tell you I thought Rose City Cuffers was very funny! I haven't made that pattern, but now I might just have to make a pair of rollers and a pair of cuffers. 😂
Have you seen the pattern for "Balls Up" by General Hogbuffer...I used it before I started Arne & Carlos' KAL this year. I use the polystyrene balls in my ornaments. I just can't get mine shaped right, putting more in made mine BIG!
Thank you so much for sharing. I have enjoyed all your knitting, movie reviews, and and all the “BA” stories. We all have stories . Can you talk about the basket the cats sleep in I just rescued a cat so I am interested in cat beds.
It's midnight in CA, made a salad, grabbed a red irish ale....I'm ready for you guys!! That stocking is darling!! My goal is to make a lot of the year of hats... There are a couple I don't care for..🤷 I wish I could find a worsted/aran sock pattern, because I'd rather just use them as slippers & I hate most of the slipper patterns I've tried. I saw Ross's hat, it's gorgeous!!! I didn't know that was a swatch for a sweater!! The Ross hat is my popcorn knitting!! Even though I have an entire binder of hat patterns. 😁 My DPN's are zings, so they're different colors, very helpful.. I love Betty Ann!!!!
There are tables online (at least there are in German) where you can look up how many stitches you need for which size using fingering/DK/yworsted, and how long the foot has to be before you do the toe. The rest is exactly like fingering weight socks. For example, I cast on 64 sts on 2.5mm for fingering, 52 sts on 3mm for DK and 48sts on 4mm for worsted.
Crazy Sock Lady does a 9” circular sock tutorial and she gives the option of using 2 dpns while knitting the heel flap and gusset like Scott mentioned. It’s how I learned to knit socks. You can really rip out a vanilla sock on circulars as compared to magic loop IMO.
I recently started two sweaters as well. The Montrealer and a sweater out of book I got for Christmas.I got the “Knit Happy with Self Striping yarn “ book
I do everything on the 9in circs except for the toe. Then i switch to dpns after the first round of decreases. Scott dont be worried about the fish lips kiss heel. Its so easy to memorize.
Arne & Carlos has new ornament patterns!! If you go to their Instagram, you can see them and purchase the patterns. Also, Knotty Knit Wits has been doing Christmas balls using clear plastic balls instead of stuffing them. I believe she got them from Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
I like to use my left over sock yarn in color work socks as well as using them in heels, toes and cuffs. I’ve also made my own self stripping yarn with left over sock yarn.
I normally cross stitch ornaments for my grandkids, but will be making Arne & Carlos balls in 2021. Funny story...I knit socks for my sister for Christmas. Depending on my mood they were either "My Sister's Stupid Socks" or "My Stupid Sister's Socks"!
Knitting and collecting a stash are two completely separate hobbies. There is no guilt in excelling at both ;) My stash wholly exceeds life expectancy (ELE) unless I live to be about 132.
I'm with you, John, I'm not keen to knit socks. I love them but. . .making them is not for me. Agree with Chevy, the hat for your neighbor is very cool.
Is it just me ? Does Scott come out very low and John much louder? I’m having a hard time trying to get my volume right. I love the Ross hat. I hope y’all enjoy it too!!
I think sometimes, the pattern just needs to "Click" (Back story, I've been knitting for 30 years, I decided I was going to make this blanket, a simple cable repeat pattern, made many cables in my time, but this blanket, I frogged and started it 4 times before the pattern finally, "clicked for me" then I finished it in 2 days. Maybe, this is what has happened with your hat.

I love watching y’all podcast. I laugh so much you lift my spirits. Your projects are beautiful. Wishing y’all a Happy New Year❤️🎉🎊

So lovely to see you!! I'm doing a self imposed stashdown for 2021. I'm not going to buy any more yarn until I've knit 1,000 grams from my stash.

Oh, we're here:) All your invisible friends. Happy New Year to you both!
Thank you Scott....your review of sock knitting was really helpful. I will give it another go.

so if you knit a tam styled tube top for BA, where do the pompoms go? oh wait, I forgot who this was for, of course over the tata's. i do love you BA
I am so glad my recommendation helped with the ornaments. They look amazing!!!!
The Mash It Up Hat by Babs Ausherman is an awesome pattern for leftover sock yarn!!! Totally addictive! It's a free pattern on Ravelry.
You guys make me laugh! Very entertaining! Hope you have a very Happy New Year!

May I recommend that you use leftovers of yarn from projects you knit for Santiago to make his 2021 and beyond Christmas ornaments?
happy new year
Please share the Tam pattern loved it!
Hi Guys! Happy New Year! Question for John, what resources did he use to learn portuguese knitting techniques? The hat is called a tammoshanter, spelled phonetically and is irish/scottish in heritage. If you have not done a Ross hat yet, you are going to love the pattern.
I just love y’all.💙
Morgan Freeman was in Driving Miss Daisy not James Earl Jones. ;)

I know I am pretty randomly asking but do anybody know a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Beckham Kellan i watch on flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
Watching your show for the first time. John, just wanted to tell you I thought Rose City Cuffers was very funny! I haven't made that pattern, but now I might just have to make a pair of rollers and a pair of cuffers. 😂
I use 9” circulars and do continental knitting. I also use a US size 0 needle. Love the rose city rollers pattern ❤️
wicked cool hat , Scott.
scott.. for super tiny ornament stuffing, you can also use a wooden chopstick. Either side works depending in how small the object is..
Did you know, Citizen Kane was about William Randolph Hearst, and apparently, "Rosebud" was the name he gave his "Lady Friend" Marion Davis' lady bit.

Hi Guys, Happy New Year, I can't wait to see your Ross hat . I have made about 50 of them for charity.
I believe your Rios colorway is Lettuce!🧶
It's midnight in CA, made a salad, grabbed a red irish ale....I'm ready for you guys!!

OMG ! eastenders ! , love watching your knitting exploits from far north of scotland our soap opera is called River City

🌹 Hurray for Scott’s stupid socks 🧦 😂 Good job John! 👏🏽 check that off the 2020 🪣 📝
Arne & Carlos has new ornament patterns!!

I love Lykke needles! I have the Interchangeable needle set and it amazing!
Love the green hat
The green hat needs a tan faux fur pom. In my opinion! It is so gorgeous!
I normally cross stitch ornaments for my grandkids, but will be making Arne & Carlos balls in 2021. Funny story...I knit socks for my sister for Christmas. Depending on my mood they were either "My Sister's Stupid Socks" or "My Stupid Sister's Socks"!
Have you guys watched Schitts Creek? Amazing show.
Knitting and collecting a stash are two completely separate hobbies. There is no guilt in excelling at both ;) My stash wholly exceeds life expectancy (ELE) unless I live to be about 132.
I knit for my family sockhat's from my sock stash.
Arne&Carlos actually used wool for stuffing.
True. I used some of my stash yarn scraps to stuff some of mine. I also bought the stuffing to use and that works well.
We struggle with getting that right. I think we’ll have it figured out next time.
@@sweetteanoshade903 wonderful. I’ll be there 👍🏻. Have a blessed New Years! Stay healthy and safe ✝️🧶🧶🧡🧡
That's so funny. My grandmother had a dog named Buttons as well. My nephews grew up calling my grandmother Mamaw Buttons because of it. HaHaHa!!
I can’t believe you guys watch Eastenders! I agree with John, it is kind of funny! It can be so miserable all you can do is laugh 😆 Also, love your dry sense of humour and your podcast!
Haven't heard from you for a while. Hope you are both alright!
I have missed a few episodes, but it is now January 19th, 2021. How are y'all doing????
You should do Shelly Winters movies next year!!
Can I buy25 Arne and Carlos Christmas balls from you? Happy new year :)
I've seen State of the Union from time to time on TCM.
Love your podcast. With Arne and Carlos, it's not pronounced "Arnie ", its "Arnuh" with the emphasis on the Arn.
How do you block your socks?
John, what tea are you drinking that’s red?
Hashtag # Santiago2020 !
I have a question for all . . . when you have your yarn out on display, don't you worry about bugs getting to it and 'chewing' it up?
Challenge question (if you choose to accept it): What movie title would you give to a road trip movie across the country with you guys...Betty Ann and Angela Lansbury?? 🚗
Would it be a comedy...dramedy...whodunit or a horror film? 😆 😭 🔍 🔪 🚨
Your sweet dog needs a highchair to sit in to be the third host of the show. May 2021 bring you great peace and good health!
Have you ever watched the Graham Norton show? It’s hilarious and one of the segments is the red chair where an audience member tells a story and if it’s not great, they get flipped. Here is a fabulous tube top story... ruclips.net/video/9HzW9xdWDL0/видео.html
And the added bonus was that Alan Cumming was on the couch! Love him....
I sort of looks like IVY. Malabrigo Rios 138? Maybe just because you said, leaves.
THIS WHOLE TIME I THOUGHT SHE LOVED TUBE TOPS
John.. I thought Bay City Cuffs was funny!!!
Kwanzaa?
omg eastenders id rather watch paint dry lol im in Scotland and avoid any of the soaps on tv.
