33% of your audience is from the U.S. because we like what you're saying about infrastructure and what we should be fighting for. It's because of your videos that a lot of people like me, who are woefully under educated about transportation realities, can begin to press for better transport infrastructure.

Such amazing & beautiful infrastructure. Vancouver is reasonably good for getting around easily and safely by bike, but nothing like this...very envious.
Always surprises me how much new building construction there is in the Netherlands. The high quality of design, in every aspect, is so noticeable. But also appreciated the one remaining old house at 21:43...someone dug in their heels. 🙂

    On Northeastern American forests:
We do have lots of native trees in our (re-planted) forests, but their composition is much different than they were in pre-Colonial times. We went from ash and chestnuts to maples.

Some are, yes, but there are a LOT of forests in the US that are full of trees, but have almost no native species.

@@njblive I can believe it. In the spring and fall I volunteer for the local nonprofit and we spend hours pulling invasive honeysuckles, English ivies, multiflora roses, and more that choke the native flora and also Norway maples trees and tree of heavens.

Fun (creepy?) fact: a few weeks back I wanted to visit Amsterdam, and usually I use Spoordeelwinkel for a very cheap trainticket. But, if you use those tickets during the week, you’re not allowed to travel before 9am, and after 4:30 pm til 6:30 pm, so only outside of rush hours. Either too short, or too long. So I took my car instead. Drove to the Johan Cruijff Arena, parked there and took public transport into the city center. Parking then only costs 1 euro!
It’s excellent, now for the creepy part: I was thinking “would NJB approve of this?”. 😅
And while in the center, I took the tram from point to point, normally I just walk and become exhausted and irritated after hour 5. So then I thought “Jason would be proud!l” 😂
I’m from South Limburg, and while main public transport is excellent, I’d love trams or more buses here.
Also, it should also be free if you go by car, for certain types of trash. Paper, glass, plastics and electronic devices are always free. Rubble from home renovation etc. Is not free.
As for the government making things easy, it’s not for nothing that the slogan for the belastingdienst is “we can’t make it more fun, but we can make it easier.”.
    (Sorry for the essay).

The Parnassusweg under the highway is quite interesting. Because it is a major road (not a street), but they made a very narrow with a speed bump and avoided the use of any traffic lights for the pedestrians. In rough hour it is quite funny to see the cars waiting for the pedestrians on the zebra. But any traffic light would made it worse for the cars probably. Maybe something to take a closer look at in a next video.

As a part of your US audience I would love it if your channel shifted to a more euro-centric perspective! You could be like a Tim Travels of urbanism! One of my favorite videos of yours was where you went to Switzerland, not only because it was nice to see what transportation is like in a place I'm not familiar with but also because there are some geographic and development parallels between Switzerland and the region of the US I live in. Content covering more of Europe would only provide more opportunities for US people to get ideas they can apply to where we live.

They weigh the car by going in and out. With proof of where you live (postal code + house number) the delivery of waste is free for private individuals. They see from the zip code plus house number how often you come by. This allows them to see if you don't secretly have a job to earn extra money.😅

In America and other car-centric countries, people appreciate convenience, so bike paths should be designed to resemble more of a bicycle highway. I believe that a high-quality bicycle highway could be made toll-based (included in the price of public transportation tickets), which would allow us to say to drivers, "Look, cyclists pay for their commute. What about you?"

  • @ZeBoy85
    @ZeBoy85 Год назад +5

Hey mate just when you were talking about your content how you said you want to focus more on European content which is a good thing because if you’re going to shit all over North American infrastructure then you should show the alternative.
However one suggestion I do have is to look outside of only doing US and European infrastructure content and look around the globe, South America, Asia and Australia all have cities that are rapidly expanding their cycling infrastructure as well as having and building great public transport infrastructure.
India for example has built major metros in their cities that are radically changing the way people there get around, they quite literally are bringing some people out of poverty I think there’s something to be said for that when North Americans won’t build rail infrastructure at all and is drifting more and more into poverty while India heads further towards equality.

No. My channel is about Europe. I live in Europe, and I only make videos about places I go to in person. I have no interest in becoming a "Wikipedia summary channel", so I will continue to make videos about my personal experiences, almost all of which will be in Europe.
If you want videos about other places, you should watch a different channel.

@@njblive yeah all good mate it was just a suggestion but if you don’t wanna get into then that’s fine, I was only saying it because I think you’re missing one thing with your channel, you’ve shown the top (Switzerland/Europe) and you’ve shown the very bottom (North America) but you’ve not yet shown the middle… the ‘what it’s like in between the bottom and the top’ and the effect that PT has on poor people and not just wealthy Europeans… don’t get me wrong that’s what we’re all aiming for even in the third world but it’s not where the start and the middle are and in my mind showing those things are just as important if not more important than only showing comfortable Europeans on PT but hey you’re not a Wikipedia page so don’t stress it’s not like it’s important or anything.
