I'll try and take it slow first and get it perfected, then hopefully I can achieve that killer speed. Thanks for this lesson. You have a great way of teaching!! Aloha from Hawaii!!

And I think my main issue with playing some of Metallica's rhythm parts on guitar, for me....is keeping that bouncy chugging Rhythm in between the chords especially songs like this or like Blackened is an even better example!! I think that's one of the hardest riffs to learn spot on like how James plays it and makes it seem Soo easy and effortlessly without ever accidentally hitting other strings and keeping that fast rhythm pace perfectly throughout the entire song I just can't quite get that main riff down to sound the way I want it to

Thanks for the lesson! The inverted power chord during the verse riff is, in Bay Area slang, hella tricky! How do you make it look so easy?? I bought a Dean Razorback and a cheap little 20 watt combo amp last year, and I've been stuck in slow mode forever. My mom got me playing piano at a young age, then I quit when I was a teenager. 2nd biggest regret I have is quitting piano lessons , because I felt like I halfway knee what I was doing, I knew how to read sheet music and even knew a little bit of music theory. 2 decades later and I'm having to start from scratch..

Thanks for putting it out there Dan. I was wrong with a few notes on my Holy Wars lesson the other day so I pulled up the isolated guitar track of this and ran it through the editor slowing down that chord to the point where it stops. I did it in a few places to make sure it was consistent on the recording. I can say in all honesty that it is 5th fret A string and 4th fret D string.
If I'm ever wrong with these lessons I really appreciate someone saying something. What's important to me is that if they come to the lesson, they'll end up learning it the correct way. Whether it's me or someone else showing them

I can see why you think it's a 5-4 diad but I'm pretty sure it's just a 6-4 and not a 5-4. At full speed, it's way easier to play it that way, and Kirk has a demonstration video showing how to play the riff and he does 7-5 to 6-4 as well. Oh and the final power-chord tail of the riff goes up 2-4 to 3-5 to 4-6, not to 5-7. Anyway, great lesson!
