One of the Best Australian songs ever... In your face OZ
3aw77 Lost Classic
my personal fave song to play on our national holiday :)
We've spent a career being misunderstood but the release of this track took the confusion to new levels. In a world where most bands just want to write vague love songs for low IQ couples who spend their weekends at Bunnings and like watching home improvement shows, we wanted to put out a song that actually said something. Celebrate the Failure was a genuine and heartfelt piece about xenophobic nationalism, bottom feeding politicians and 200 years of chronic injustice towards aboriginals. Most people, however, thought it was a piss take on the Olympics. How lines like "It's a black armband view of history / so we're never ever ever ever gonna say sorry" can be interpreted as a light hearted poke at a sporting event remains beyond our comprehension. If ever we needed more confirmation that the average person is a fucking moron then the response to this song was it.
I loved this song when I first saw it on Rage and felt it was very TISMesque (a band I simply love). I bought the single and couldn't believe it didn't register on the JJJ hottest 100.
You can create art.
You cannot tell people how to interpret it.
If our alleged national character wasn't a lie, this would get high rotation every Australia Day. But we're a pack of up-kissing, down-kicking bootlickers, and this track only becomes more poignant with every passing decade.
This track is just the ticket for when the Voice referendum fails. There will be much celebration of the failure of our intellect and humanity.
But hey, what do you expect from a colony founded on brutal subjugation.
I am so grateful for what Australia has given me, Government Housing and Unemployment benefits. And when I see how other Australians take it for granted, as a birthright, entitled to them because they are so awesome,
well, I can't help but celebrate...
Sharing this tonight*, seems appropriate.
*For future reference -- 7/9/13, federal election day.

Gallipoli?
White guilt; clumsily-elitist, undergraduate politics - what more do you need in a band?
