Respect Vernon Davis for dealing with this in the best way possible. Was one of his fans ever since it happened. He’s a good man & a role model for how to recover like a man.
@@jamesnightingale2788 Yes he really was a hood football player. So much has changed in the NFL in 50 years. When I was young players didn’t make that much unless they were stars & the NFL & teams encouraged them to become known in media for endorsements & acting gigs because it was good for the league. Now it seems like there’s so much focus on QBs that there’s fewer non QBs getting attention. This model started about 10 years ago when media attacked the NFL every time a player got arrested. The teams found that having a franchise QB making generational wealth resulted in QBs being very buttoned up & nearly everyone else being disposable. Members of the Legion of Boom got attention but they all had careers of 10 years or less unless we include Bobby Wagner. So few players have 12-16 year careers but they also make a lot more money & don’t need the notoriety that used to bring commercials for income. But like I said, I feel like we as fans lost the opportunity to really get to know these players. Vernon Davis played with intensity & was very talented. So few make the hall of fame & that also appears to be headed to honoring quarterbacks & team owners over the men in the trenches who make it all possible.
I actually have had the chance to sit down and talk with Vernon at my old job on multiple occasions, such a down to earth man and just so damn genuine, although he may of not played many snaps with the Broncos I'm just happy someone was able to get him the Ring he deserved!
Singletary would be a great Defensive Coordinator with how much he knew about the game. The 85 Bears were so great because of his work in the film room and how he could read the other team's offense like a book.
ANIMALFRIES yup. I like Mike for what he did for the 49ers, but the Ravens defenders (Bart Scott) did not respect him due to his lack of scheme knowledge.
I still think if he had come into the league with the attitude he had at the end of his career, he would be a Hall of Famer. I mean geez, he had a relatively disappointing career based upon the hype he came into the league with... but he still caught for 7562 yard, 63 touchdowns, and a 13 yards per catch average (which is absolutely phenomenal for a TE). That's a great career for a TE, but he only scratched the surface of his potential. Guy was super talented.
I think Coach set foundations for that Superbowl team- before Harbaugh came in . At time I thought he was overworked and a bit nuts but mad respect for the total commitment and focus to create men into winners!
Singletary was just moved up too quickly to HC and it didn't work out. I don't think he was even an coordinator yet. He could easily be a defensive coach on an NFL team and be successful at it.
I think Singletary would make a good head coach but he would have to have a strong Offensive and Defensive coordinator running the game. Singletary would be strongest in practice getting his team ready for the game. He learned from Buddy Ryan.
I am a Bears fan I wanted the Bears to hire him when we hired Nagy they did give him an interview but went with Nagy... My Dad is a long time bears fan and he thinks guys are abit to soft now to take his type of coaching because when someone yells at them they get hurt and try to leave and stuff. With that being said I only want guys that can take his coaching style on the team anyways bring him back to Chicago!!! Bears fan since 2007!
Buddy Ryan was a Defensive Coordinator. Thats what he was. Singletary was his best pupil. I assumed Singletary would follow in his footsteps. He got his head job too early. Bears fan, but Joe Gibbs is the best head coach in my lifetime. 3 super bowls, 3 different QB's.
Pete Carroll is the best coach in your lifetime, without question and there's not a close second either. He turned a mediocre team into a modern-day dynasty and at one point, a literal juggernaut (2013). ANYBODY could have run the teams that Joe Gibbs had with success. The Redskins were stacked. They were the only team to consistently defeat the Giants and the Cowboys in that era as well.
I've had many fatherly figures in my life...my step-dad was the only one who cared, cuz he yelled, he told me to be better!! The others didn't care what I do or say!!
Singletary shows even when your an elite athlete your still not greater than morality and strong work ethic,And being a team member that plays his role,He gets the big picture of at all.
This was like Mark Jackson in the NBA. He set the pieces up to make a great reign, but didn't know how to capitalize on their potential. Harbaugh comes in and boom, legit NFC contenders for all most 5 years

The funny part is when I ask people for something and they use it on me!!!! “Adam, can you work for me tomorrow? Ronnie, you know Mike Singletary, right?”
Pisses me off should've kept coach. Harbaugh inherited a gold mine pun intended. So as a Michigan fan as well it kinda made me laugh when he talked about ryan day being put on second base and thinking he hit a double. Not quite the same situation, osu was way more successful than the 49ers before either got in but the potential the 49ers had was huge. Thank you coach singletary! Thank you Vernon Davis!
Y'all are right, he didn't get cut from training camp as a superstar in Philly for "conduct detrimental to the team" Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb and the several teams that cut loose one of the best receivers in that era may disagree. Get off his D
@@stevenrandall8300 I'll side with the Head Coach who called him the best player he's ever coached and the list of players who called him a great teammate not 2 QBs who he made better 🤷🏾♂️
I guess you're right... Garcia and McNabb said it so it must be true. Disregard the slew of teammates who said otherwise. It's always funny.. outside of McNabb (because the only thing I can recall about Garcia speaking on him was his SUPPORT for his HoF enshrinement) none of the "sources" these reporters had have ever been named. 🤷🏾♂️
This didn’t just come from a coach, it came from a Hall of Fame player who did it. And look, he was right lol. Vernon had more success when he let that go.
bum and Singletary should not fit in the same question... he was coach just not a head coach not enough experience... defensive coach of linebackers or defensive coordinator would have been a better fit especially for the intensity he brought... the intensity might have been too much has head coach but definitely not a bum
It's crazy how much of a turning point this was for Vernon. The very next season, he scored 13 TDs
And bro went crazy ever since
