Love this! I have a calamondin tree so am going to make this. Thanks so much! Just a quick hint: if you cut the fruit through the width instead of the length it’s much easier to remove the seeds
Until you mentioned that you have a Calamondin Lime tree, I had never heard of that type of Citrus Tree. Beautiful color. I love watching you cook and make marmalade and jam.
Jacq Davis had a variegated Calamondin in her front yard in epic yard farm 1.0 and that’s what I wanted but they didn’t have that at the nursery when I went so I just got the regular one
@@Latebloomershow It is the same here too. I prepared my Chicken and Dressing yesterday and it has seasoned in the refrigerator overnight. It will be baked today. I have a Butterball boneless turkey breast that will be baked today. Asparagus casserole will go into the oven later too. Mashed potatoes, corn, stuffed celery, cranberry sauce and green beans are a part of the menu and a home-made pumpkin pie. A busy day is planned and I love it.
Ohhh how I wish I could grow lime trees!!!! Love your music and relaxing atmosphere. Looks so yummy Kaye!!!!! Could you make Key Lime pie out of those limes?
@@Latebloomershow I made the best Lemon Meringue Pie with the calamondin (Calamansi). First time watching and found you while searching for marmalade citrus canning instruction. Very nice relaxed program you have🙂. I'm in San Diego and love my 2 dwarf calamansi trees. Loaded with fruit almost all year so I share with my neighbors.
Goodmorning kaye, well done, wonderful 👏 ,wonderful marmalade and you have show so well for us to follow 😊. I really enjoyed that, well done and looks beautiful for gifts also, have a wonderful very happy and blessed Christmas. Have a lovely day at Darrell s,boxing day.see you soon,God bless you 🙏. Xxxxx
WOW, the marmalade turned out amazing! Now I need to go make some with the citrus we have ripening in the garden. Thank you for the inspiration and the lovely videos! Love from AZ.
@@Latebloomershow no I haven't gotten it.. thanks for all you share in your garden...such an inspiration...now if it would just cool down for a minute I'd get outside 🤣🤣
Hey, I have a dandy little kitchen tool handed down to me from my grandmother. It's intention is to remove tomato "butts" - where the stem hooks onto the fruit. It also works on citrus.
@Kaye Kittrell Late Bloomer I'll snap a picture of it and email it to you. I also captured a nifty biscuit cutter from Granny. I don't eat ANY carbs, so I get to use either gadget ONLY when I cook for others, which is a couple times a month as a rule. I often cook for 30 to 100 people. I loves to cook.
It was hard to get the color consistent from shot to shot because I shot it on different days and some look more like clementines but trust me they’re not, much more tart
I live in Honduras and have a 2 meter/ 6 foot tall Calamondin tree. Down here it produces 2 big harvests per year of about 150 fruits, each the size of a grape. It tastes like a delicious mandarin, but is as sour as a lemon. I cut each fruit in half, squeezes out all the juice with pulp and seeds, then I filter the solids out through a colander. The juice is too sour to drink alone, but mixed with water and adding sugar, it makes a spectacular drink. Then the skins I use to make a really tasty marmalade, basically the same recipe you used. Also I use it to make cheesecake, cookies, etc. In the Phillipines it is called Kalamasi and is very popular in their local cuisine, cooked with pork, fish, etc
I wouldn't say lemon. I'd say lime is a bit closer to its taste.. Lemons are a lot sweeter than limes.. Take it from a guy that has eaten som tam made with lemons during a lime shortage😢 Oh..and I have a tree about the same size if not taller. I don't even want to imagine how large it'll get!! Either way, long live the calamansi! Edit: Tried one. Best flavor description is sour clementine mixed with lemon for ripe fruit. The green fruits...lemon-lime with hints of clementine.
Have you planted citrus seeds before? Are you aware that nearly all nursery citrus trees are grafted? I mean, you can try to plant it, but there is no guarantee that they will turn out like you think unless the trees are grafted. I did save the seeds for future experiments, but would not want you to spend a lot of time and then be disappointed. I have a good grafting video: ruclips.net/video/ELqDxJAuczE/видео.html
Hi, i just wanted to know if i could prepare this without the heat or boiling ? The peels of Calamondin have many polyphenols that get destroyed with the heat. I can keep the jam in the refrigerator or add natural preservative, incase if bacteria or fungus is an issue for the uncooked jam?
I actually wish I had known this when I made it. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to this. You can only gel it with heat. You could make a kind of sauce I suppose.
@@Latebloomershow Hi, blessings from India 🇮🇳 I found a great way to preserve them. Just add powdered Chia Seed powder which would act as a gel to bind them. I just put all the peels into a glass jar stacked closely and put two teaspoons of sugar everyday for 4 days and i keep it refrigerated so that it doesn't turn into alcohol. Citrus peels have Hesperidin, Rutin, Limonene, Sinensitin, Nobletin, Naringin, there are close to 100 beneficial compounds for preventing cancer, heart disease to what not ! Citrus peels have all the goodness that the juices don't. Never throw them. Use them to make vinegar, make teas, make face powders, there's just a lot we can do with every kind of citrus.
Very informative and looks delicious ... Thank you. It's my first time to do any canning. This may be a dumb question. My 8oz Ball jars arrived well packed. Do I need to prep this jars before using them? I saw somewhere putting the jars in warm or hot water or even in the dishwasher. How about the lids? I have 2 outdoor dwarf Calamondin (common and known as Calamansi in the Philippines) here in CA. I'm so excited to try this your way.
You can run jars through the dishwasher or wash in hot soapy water and I put them in steaming hot water to sterilize. Lids must be warmed in hot water, not boiled. Rims just wash and use. Congrats!!! First time is so exciting. You will be doing more, I am sure!
@@Latebloomershow I did it! I couldn't get it to 220℉ (I have the same candy thermometer as yours). At 200℉ for another 10-15 minutes, I took it off the heat because I was afraid for it to smell or taste burned. Not as jelled like yours on video but sure do taste great on toast the next day.
Ugh! Electric stove - I have one, but I always burn stuff on it. I learned to cook on gas. Sooo, I have two stoves in my kitchen, one Electric and one gas, side by each. It's okay, I'm autistic and live alone, so fung shway is not an issue. I regularly cook for crowds of people, so I "cook" on gas and use the electric oven in lieu of a steam table, to keep stuff warm.

Let's start by saying happy Christmas kaye,,,,,, ur marmalade making is super fantastic kaye 🤓😄👋👋👋👋👋👋👋🍯🎩
Oh my that is truly a labor of love! We have a couple of little kumquat trees. I wonder if they are similar in taste?
I’m sure you could ask Jacq on her Instagram or Facebook page at epic yard farm and she would know
Hi, calamondin is a hybrid with kumquat parentage. They are similar in taste, but with more lime flavor.
Good job, looks great.
Merry Christmas! Looks delicious!
