Anker Solix X1 inverter comes with batteries and you can add more as and when needed. It also has a detailed monitoring system so you don't have to buy a separate one. It also works with string inverters but from what I've heard string isn't very good as it breaks down easily.

Hi Finn, what are your thoughts on Origin as an installer? I'm in Brisbane, they've quoted $8200 for a 11kW system consisting of 11kW JA Solar panels and a 8.5kW GoodWe inverter. They have a guaranteed FiT of 14c (locked in for 24 months) and also 48 months interest free on the whole package which seems like a great deal. Would love to hear your opinion, thanks in advance!

I’m not a fan of Origin as an installer. I prefer small/medium local companies where you have a direct line to the management if you need support. With Origin you’ll deal with a call centre. If you choose to go with them ensure you have a pre install inspection and agree where everything is going and where they can and can’t put conduit. Ensure your monitoring is working before they leave. Consider getting a solar analytics to talk to the Goodwe inverter to monitor performance.

We went with SMA, and were happy until we added whole house batteries, with a charger and transfer switch (disconnects the grid during a power outage, and powers your home with solar and battery).
For that, I've been happy with Sol-Ark.
Another thing to consider is charging an EV. I'm in Southern California, where electricity is very expensive, with the lowest rate from midnight to 6AM. I would like to charge my car off excess solar, after the battery is charged and the home load is satisfied. My existing system doesn't do that. I would also like to use my car battery to power my home if needed. Sol-Ark is working on a bidirectional car charger.

I'm in Thailand. I currently have a hybrid 48 volt all in one RiioSun inverter (Chinese) with 5 batteries. These inverters do not put excess electricity back on to the grid. Do any of the reputable brands you suggest offer all in one inverters?

If the panel power is 33% bigger than the inverter power-
    Panel power 1333w
    Inverter 1000w
Can the inverter convert all the 1333w of power at the same time? Or is the limit 1000w?

  • @douglasdms777

Just tried to quote for a battery in queensland, I have a 8.2kw inverter so AGL dismissed as it will go above the inverter limit imposed by energex (the battery also has an inverter). I wonder if they will ask us to use the aircon on 26 degrees in the summer to help the grid at night.... Then tried Origin and their installers insisted it is impossible to have the battery charge via solar panels if the grid is down... ok, 20k for a battery to still be tied to the grid, hell no.

    • @SolarQuotes
      @SolarQuotes  Год назад +1

Origin are wrong (quite common!). You may have to use a single hybrid inverter (Sungrow is good for this - and it will backup and charge from solar without the grid) to stay under the inverter limit.

    • @SolarQuotes

Well worth it. If you build a house with a single-phase connection to save a few hundred dollars, you're mad. Upgrading? Depends on the cost, which will vary wildly depending how your home is wired to the street. An all-electric home with 2 EVs on single phase? Good luck with that.

Hold on can you explain this oversizing again because it sounds crazy!
Lets say my inverter allows 600v and I have 500w panels with 52v each so if I put 15 of them I would have 780v that would kill the inverter and thats no counting when it gets cold and panels go to 60v each than it fried 100%... Could you elaborate this "overpaneling"??

    • @SolarQuotes

you are oversizing watts not volts (or amps). You still need a string design that respects the current and voltage window of the inverter inputs
