There’s clearly a story behind this video and it should be shared. It’s not just them singing a song. This is Karinya Chen. A 15 year old girl who had battled terminal bone cancer for 5 years. She was at “Hospice Austin” and had tickets to go see a Florence and the Machine concert. She couldn’t due to health concerns. But the hospice reached out to Florence and was able to explain the situation and Florence came to sing just to her. With that being said this day was clearly something very special and since unfortunately Karinya has passed away. These acts of kindness are what makes this world so nice to be in and makes us realize how precious not only life is but how important something as simple as music can be to us in times of need.

I was a rescue worker during 9/11 and I'm battling stage 4 GI inoperable Cancer. People don't realize what little or big acts of kindness do to someone's recovery. It just warms my heart knowing that people still do things for humanity, to make others feel warm and good in their hearts..God bless you Florence, and Lord, give me the strength to continue for humanity for I know there are a couple things left I can do before I go..😊

This sweet girl was in the room next to my son, when he was just starting his cancer journey. I never got a chance to meet her, but I saw her alot the first week we were at the hospital. RIP
I have watched this awesome video many times and have watched quite a few reactions to it. In my opinion there is one moment that nobody seems to recognize. At around 1 min 52 seconds. Karina Chen reaches out for her friend. Looking like she may be overwhelmed by what's going on. Florence immediately notices and sits down beside the young lady and puts her mind at ease. From then on Karinya completely relaxes and enjoys the rest of the performance. It is the sweetest thing I have ever seen in my life.
She's like a nurse giving a whole different kind of medicine. When she sits with her and sings directly to her giving her this intangible gift. THIS is the power of music.

I come back to this video every time I feel like I’m struggling or sad or angry or something. It makes me angry at myself for being ungrateful or being selfish. It makes me realize that I need to stop making excuses in my life for everything and do what I’m scared to do and work harder for what I want and be kinder and be nicer and be more grateful for everything I have.

I've heard her say that too. I think like some other music artists (namely Freddie Mercury) the artist has a completely different persona on stage. On stage Florence is so commanding and bold but singing for just a few people she gets so nervous. I love her so. 💕

I'm a fully grown man crying while watching this. and no, I'm not ashamed to admit that. sometimes simple displays of kindness are overlooked, so it was nice to see it make someones day so much better.

But one small observation, Florence mentioned "they don't really do this acoustically" and right on the spot, not only did they figure it out between the two of them, but they absolutely killed. She died in October. She had got much better, she had left the hospice. There is an interview with her on a channel called xcan. She died in her sleep. She will be missed by thousands.
I think when you realise that this isn't a hospital, but a hospice centre, makes this video hit so much harder. The fact that she chose this song, it puts a positive spin on death. The pain is over. The dog days are over. The dog days are done. RIP Karinya.
I work in adult oncology, this hits so close to home. I have had the privilege of being there at the end of life for several people. Sad, but fulfilling work. I'm grateful for every moment.

I recently finished a 5 year fight with cancer. I was 43 when first diagnosed, if cancer had taken me I would’ve been ok with that because I had plenty of years to live my life. I rewatch this video every so often because it absolutely guts me, I occasionally need a reminder that sweet, wonderful young people like Karinya will never get the opportunity I have. I hope to give back to the world for my blessings. I’m pursuing a nursing degree. I like to think that Karinya will be watching as I go forth to help people.
I was lucky enough to work security at a one of her recent concerts. Florence has a wonderful gift. Her fans adore her for good reason. I watched her memorize them for two hours. This women was touched by an angel.

I have watched this awesome video many times and have watched quite a few reactions to it. In my opinion there is one moment that nobody seems to recognize. At around 1 min 52 seconds. Karina Chen reaches out for her friend. Looking like she may be overwhelmed by what's going on. Florence immediately notices and sits down beside the young lady and puts her mind at ease. From then on Karinya completely relaxes and enjoys the rest of the performance. It is the sweetest thing I have ever seen in my life.
She's like a nurse giving a whole different kind of medicine. When she sits with her and sings directly to her giving her this intangible gift. THIS is the power of music.
The lyrics are so beautiful. It was almost as of the song was setting her soul free.

I am so happy she got them all to herself.. Smiles. She fought a mighty battle she deserved this. Thank you 7 yrs later as I watch Florence +TheMachine doing this while I sit on my hospice bed now. Thank you for your compassion & love for others and keeping it real and pushing it forward. It meant so much to her you could tell. I also love This song. I am elder I've lived such a full life. So next time I have a moment of self pity I will be thinking of Karinya Chen and how mighty she was at only 10 to take on the battle she did for a entire 5 years. God be with her family and her friends may she be singing and dancing in the heavens.
I don't know how how she did it. I would be breaking down so hard. This is such a beautiful moment and so impactful for both of them. I think she got a little shaky when the girl started to cry but she knew she had to keep singing and doing her best because it was important.
Florence was amazing. Her lyrics are wonderful as well so, when she's singing, shes singing directly to your soul and spreading positivity and love.
I come back to this video every time I feel like I’m struggling or sad or angry or something. It makes me angry at myself for being ungrateful or being selfish. It makes me realize that I need to stop making excuses in my life for everything and do what I’m scared to do and work harder for what I want and be kinder and be nicer and be more grateful for everything I have.

I've heard her say that too. I think like some other music artists (namely Freddie Mercury) the artist has a completely different persona on stage. On stage Florence is so commanding and bold but singing for just a few people she gets so nervous. I love her so. 💕

She died in October. She had got much better, she had left the hospice. There is an interview with her on a channel called xcan. She died in her sleep. She will be missed by thousands.

I recently finished a 5 year fight with cancer. I was 43 when first diagnosed, if cancer had taken me I would’ve been ok with that because I had plenty of years to live my life. I rewatch this video every so often because it absolutely guts me, I occasionally need a reminder that sweet, wonderful young people like Karinya will never get the opportunity I have. I hope to give back to the world for my blessings. I’m pursuing a nursing degree. I like to think that Karinya will be watching as I go forth to help people.

I was lucky enough to work security at a one of her recent concerts. Florence has a wonderful gift. Her fans adore her for good reason. I watched her memorize them for two hours. This women was touched by an angel.
