How to cure hiccups using science!

We've all been on the receiving end of a bad bout of hiccups. A new invention called hiccaway claims to cure the hiccups once and for all, but if you can't get hold of one, you might be able to make your own at home! I chatted to the team at seven sharp about how it might work - follow these instructions to give it a try!

This worked! Had the hiccups for 2 to 3 days and tried the table spoon of sugar, paper bag, and acupressure, lemon bite, yet this video knocked the issue dead! Wish this was more out there.

My personal best 2 methods to stop hiccups fast:
1 - Sip/suck water super slowly nonstop from a cup or bottle. Breathe through your nose as you do it, and don't detach mouth from cup/bottle.
2 - Cover mouth and nose with a clean plastic bag, breathe in and out carbon dioxide inside the bag for a few seconds at a time. Remove bag, take in some good fresh air breath, then repeat if needed.

That's what our mother had us do when we were little. We therefore always knew that.
The lady there is right. One point though. When you start to drink-- do not stop and release the straw with your lips. It seems to be the constant vacuum-ing that does the trick -- it can be felt at the eustation tube and ear drum.
This works for simple hiccups. Sometimes it works partially but you already drank all the water. You'll have to do it over. Result -- your belly is distended with water (we were children). You'll have to wait awhile; then do it again.
There are other causes of hiccups which have very serious causes and must be attended to by a Medical practitioner.

I have an automatic reflux that immediately stops hiccups. I trained myself to do this since I was a child. When hiccups come I experience one maybe two and they are gone. In trying to share this with others of course it works sometimes and some times not. I used to think it was about swallowing air then I realized that wasn't what worked. When you feel you are going to hiccup you simply suppress it and at the same instance you take a short, deep, quick breath. It happens in an instant.
