Every day, i dream of rockhounding Oregon again. That looks like so much fun to be out there on a gorgeous day looking for all kinds of treasures. You found some awesome bones and shells and petwood and teredo wood. Lol, all kinds of fun stuff! Thanks ,Karen, for sharing and I look forward to seeing some of these in future videos. 🙂
You should really come back and do some rockhounding! It was an amazing day on the coast, never taken for granted. The beach was very generous and it seemed like the perfect playground for a bit of a tutorial. You know there will be some acid prep and hopefully, fingers crossed, some cool finds inside those concretions. Thanks so much for watching (until you can come out and find yours!) cheers!
Thanks for taking us along today. It was a bony, and woody day. Interesting stuff along that coast. Those blue/black agates are really pretty. Love to imagine what sea creatures those bones came from.
Gotta love the boney, woody days on the beach. It was such a stellar spring day too, had to share it! Those blue-blacks are always so cool and the sea creatures that share their memories with us through those tangible finds. I hope to one day illustrate some of them (gotta love Ray Troll but I'd do something a little more old school illustration). Anyhow, I'm enjoying seeing all of your fresh jewelry, thank you for sharing, you are rockin it! Pax Rockona! 😁
Missed last night, so had to catch up this morning. What a wonderful, instructional trip to the beach! It really helps to have your eyes find and identify shells, mammal bones, petrified wood, and all those fantastic little gemstones that grace your rockhounding sites. After viewing your video, I had to look over at my pencil-eraser-sized beach agate plucked from an Oregon beach years ago, and exclaim that the little guy needed some similar company. Long overdue for a west coast excursion!! Thanks Karen!
Sorry we missed you for the premiere! It was such a good day down on the beach, it seemed like such a good time to do a little tutorial. You definitely need to come out and find some friends for your precious agate! Thanks again for watching, Pax Rockona!
Yay, I'm going to the Oregon coast next weekend. I can't wait! I have been collecting for over 30 years and have never cut my rocks, hahahaha. I'm thinking about investing in a saw. I love that you are saying what each one is. I have to have a more discerning eye when I look now and not just pick up all the shiny stuff, lol.
I hope the video worked some luck for you! Did you find some good stuff? I hope you had a great trip and lots of fun. There's never a waisted day at the beach! Cheers and thanks for watching!
Thank you! I am just scratching the surface, there's so much to learn. There are some really knowledgeable people around here that help immensely and thus I share too. Thanks again for watching, rock on!
So much fun! I always have fun on the beach! It's something I for sure miss doing! So thanks for the fix! Great bones and wood! Can't wait to see what pops out! Thanks Karen!
Get your clothespin ready for your nose, we'll be dunking some of those in the acid to see what's inside soon. Thank goodness it's not smellovision. Thanks for coming to the beach with us, always a pleasure. Cheers! Sorry no steinkerns this time!
Sweet Lady, I notice that you devote most of your time to finding stones. I have rarely seen you processing these stones, turning them into art objects or jewelry. I would like to see more such objects and the way you make them. Warm Greetings
Hi Viorel, thank you for taking the time to watch the video. I have made several videos showing how I make both gemstones (like the faceting video for sunstones) and jewelry (like a number of my shorts and a few full length videos) out of what I find or work on in the studio. One reason why I don't have a number of 'maker' videos on the beach finds is that it's illegal to collect those items for commercial use, so all the collecting and those projects are just for fun. There's a great maker's challenge video of a huge beach jasper I carve into an octopus (and of course I keep the spoils, lol), another where I make a lamp from plume agate I found/mined and cut, and another where I pour sand casts from fossil shells. There's yet another where we take a fossil shell through full polish and I'm getting ready to do it again to a recent find so that we can accurately identify it. If you go through the videos, these are easy to find though you give me the idea to make a 'maker' or project playlist. Thanks for the feedback and thanks again for watching, cheers!
That always amazing me as well, the beach is so generous! We're really lucky to have the opportunity here to find and keep the things that are there. Thanks for coming along on the adventure, cheers!
Lots of good finds. Pet wood , fossils, agates were all nice, now go back and get that jasper! Yes I was shouting. Woof to the pup and thanks for sharing a balmy day on the Oregon Coast. 😊 ⚒😷
The beach was absolutely spoiling us on that hunt! I was thinking of you specifically when I asked about shouting, I heard 'cut, Cut, CUT'. I need to get a new blade from my 10", it's so tired and made my head hurt thinking of cutting that hard thing. I'll go back and get it (if I can find it under the surf, lol). Thanks for coming along on the adventures, cheers and Pax Rockona!
Thank you, John! I sincerely hope you can get out for a beach hunt too, sometime soon. It's super fun when the beach serves up such treasures, sometimes it's just a walk on the beach, which I always appreciate as well. Thanks again for watching, cheers!
Thank you Amanda! I saw your question just as the chat was over; I haven't been out to your forest though it's on my bucket list! We're planning a trip to Wyoming this summer and hope to hit the Warfield fossil beds in Kemmerer, perhaps the forest will happen too, not sure. Thanks about the pups and the finds, the beach is very good to us! Thanks again for watching, cheers!
@@OzoneFineArtVentures oh you will enjoy the blue forest soo much!! Pretty much any road you go on will get you to petrified wood in that area. My dad makes splitting chisels for the kemmerer crews. There are a lot of great fossils out there for sure
Thanks for going to the beach with us! So glad that you enjoyed it. It's great all the places we can visit in this hounding community! Virtually, anyhow 😂. Thanks again for watching, cheers!
Love your videos so much! I’m a lifelong rockhound, mostly just searching for whatever strikes my fancy, but have recently been turned onto agate and jasper hunting! It’s so helpful to see what those gems look like in the wild, lol! Thanks so much for sharing your adventures with us! Your dog is adorable too - what breed is he?
I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos, it's totally why we make them! It's great you've been bit by the agate and jasper bug, there's so much beauty to discover out there. The dog in the video is Owyhee and he's a Heeler. We've got 3 of them and they're the best rock hounds if ya ask me! Thanks for watching, cheers!
That was fun Karen! Thanks for taking us along! Doesn’t Toledo wood come from Ohio or is it Spain? Are your hands orange after picking up the Cheeto wood? Your dog is cute and deserves his own video!
Thanks, Mark! I believe Ohio and Spain would both have their signature flavors, lol, making all the hands in the area orange. Owyhee is so fun and crazy, he could totally do his own channel. We'd just be bystanders like Lassie's handlers, he's a show stealer everywhere we go. Thanks for watching, cheers!
@@kellyforest Depot Bay will be fun, ya gotta love the coast going both ways from there. I'd say that, unfortunately, the summer is the 'off season' for most of the beaches right nearby because the sand gets washed in by the changing currents and covers up the gravels. That being said, any beach that has a creek or river flowing on to it (ie. Fogarty, Beverly, Lost Creek, Yachats, Cummins, Bob) will offer at least what the water washes as it flows to the sea. Also, the 'high rocks' that are towards the headwall (cliffs) of the beaches may offer some fun finds, look for fossils at Beverly. All of the locations have very real potential dangers at high tides, actually all tides because of the sneaker waves. Some of the beaches are very short (ocean, little beach, cliff walls) so an incoming tide can trap ya if you're not careful. Watch the tides, listen, don't turn your back to it, and have a super good time!
@@OzoneFineArtVentures Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I'll be adding a few of your suggested places to my itinerary. I'll send you pictures of my finds.
