    Edit: plus I've heard playing some arcade shmup/shooters and a few other genres actually can work surprisingly well w a trackball actually. I think I tried it out w a SEGA master system game one time, pretty neat!

The GameStation Pro is, BY FAR, my most used console (mainly due to all the late ‘70s/early ‘80s arcade ROM’s I’ve added to it) and I have no doubt that the G.S. Go will quickly become my main handheld thanks to the trackball, paddle and keypad.

  • @RikoRik33
    @RikoRik33 3 месяца назад +2

    Guess my other curiosity is the capabilities of the device. Not expecting it to be a powerhouse by any means though a small spec bump compared to the GSP might give it more wiggle room to do things, will be curious to see.

    • @AndyShiner
      @AndyShiner 2 месяца назад

      Yeah it would be awesome to get some Jaguar and Atari ST games. I bet the trackball would be good for point-and-click adventures. But I doubt this thing will be powerful enough for anything beyond 16 bit . . .

  • @WIImotionmasher
    @WIImotionmasher 3 месяца назад +2

    Might sound silly but the HDMI out is a big deal for me. I like streaming my games to my friends so they know what I'm playing.
    But I also like portables. But when there's a choice between portable or an HDMI device I struggle to pick between the two. Evercade has that issue for me, I've been waiting for a year, for something to nudge me over the edge and buy one.
    Also FULL size HDMI is a really good upgrade from other handhelds. Micro HDMI or mini, are really fragile and I hate them.
    This Gamestation Go is an easy buy. Depending on the final price (in Canada), I can see myself just picking this up right after release.
    I can't wait to try paddle and track-ball gaming.

      Do you play games on anything beyond the 2600? I can understand your feelings. For me, though if I have a "stick," I like the button on the left, but I can't imagine using a d-pad with my right thumb (which would be required to put the buttons on the left).

  • @jackmcslay
    @jackmcslay 3 месяца назад

    Don't really like the arrangement of controls on the left, I think it should be from top to bottom DPad, Trackball and then spinner. A higher DPad would be helpful for people with small hands reaching the shoulder buttons and the trackball being right below would still be usable grasping the controller while moving it with your thumb, ergonomics shouldn't matter much with the spinner as the best way to use it is to grasp it with your thumb anf fingers rather than holding the controller while manipulating it using your thumb.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  3 месяца назад +1

      I hear you. I'm sure no arrangement will be perfect for every user. I personally like the layout after holding it. The spinner/paddle is quite tall, and I feel that placing it anywhere other than at the extreme top would mean it's a bit in the way when reaching things above it.

      These things tend to have a very long tail, and it was first announced back in January. So I"m hoping that if Intellivision games aren't already on it, then they can be added via SD.

    Looks very interesting. The only thing I wonder at this point is the spinner. Being small, I'm not sure how much weigh it will have. If it doesn't have much weight, a paddle controller might make more sense. Looking forward to the next video.

    I'm still perplexed by the wide screen instead of a more square screen. That's really the main thing that kills my interest in the device.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  3 месяца назад +3

      I'd asked them about that back in January, and apparently is has to do with sourcing. 4x3 screens are available, but since they're lower demand they're much more expensive, which would in turn drive up the cost of the GSG to the consumer.

    • @TroutButter
      @TroutButter 3 месяца назад +1

      They have to use what's being made. No one makes 4:3 screens any more. How this can kill interest with all the other things going for it is extremely odd to me.

      @@GenXGrownUp Powkiddy is getting their handhelds under $100 with nice square screens. It's already niche for us old hats, and I'm sure we'd fork over the cash for a proper aspect ratio. It at least looks like their getting out of the prototype stage.

      @TroutButter loads of Chinese emulation devices have them and for cheaper than this effort. And I don't want empty lcd screen space with either a horrible background or black. It's what makes the Evercade handhelds look bad.

    Atari should stop licensing 500 new emulation boxes every year and instead just focus on one that doesn't suck. Then provide support to it with software updates and either/both of a digital storefront and physical cartridges. How many half-baked, poorly supported devices are they even selling right now? Four MyArcade devices, the 400Mini, the 2600+, the VCS 800, the Flashback 12 Gold, the Super Pocket. Never mind that last year's crop of MyArcade devices was awful and never received any post launch support, let's just move right into shilling next year's trash!

    AMD has made significant advances since the Atari VCS came out.

    That track ball is gonna be bad. I have never seen a quality trackball. Even the old mouse has a bad trackball at the bottom. There’s only 2 times I have used a trackball, and that’s with Atari 2600 trackball, and with the centipede trackball., and it it was smaller the games wouldn’t of worked as well
