I wish I could go back in time and convince the world that lead in paint, lead in gasoline, lead in anything is a terrible idea and to have proof to show them why to never allow it in anything.

Hi, I'm an EPA Lead-Based Paint Inspector in NYC and I have some questions for you.
    1. While using a Niton XRF shouldn't you be wearing a "dosimeter" during this tutorial ?
    2. For safety purposes why would you have the XRF facing a child ?
While using a Niton XRF analyze you must take extremely precaution at all times (I believe). I remember going to Niton XRF training conference by JFK airport they specifically say not to point (of course while pressing the proximity button, it can cause internal / external injuries, blindness and worst of all death) but even when NOT using the the proximity button. Always to point the XRF down if people are present in the room.
    Please respond...
    Thank You,

I am a Painter in Brooklyn NY. The owner has two story old house and wants to test the whole house before painting. I am pretty sure that old house is full with lead paint and we have to approuch this job with caution. How much would be for you to come and test two story old house in Boropark? Appr. 20 rooms.

How does this work with multiple layers of paint? How deep can it detect? Thank you.

David, Good Video, it would have been nice if you did not keep pointing around the gun. Maybe it was an oversight.

Are you allowed to use an Xrf that the client provided for you?Or is it a conflict of interest?

Clients typically don’t provide you with a $17,000 instrument.

Would the casings and trims around the window need to be removed or stripped given the levels are not 0.0?Would it be an acceptable level for deleading compliance certification ?

No. The standard is 1.0, typically if a surface is deteriorated and reads above .07 the assesor will usually reshoot several times to confirm it is not lead paint. Also casing and sills are not friction or impact surfaces subjected to abrasion which produces lead dust. Window sill that show bite marks should be replace if a child living there has a history of chewing surfaces. If it a wall or casing generally it will not be replaced unless it is or very poor shape. XRF guns read all the way to the bottom layer, if the layer are intact then there is not a lead hazard unless the surface is prone to friction or impact wear, such as a window or door jamb, a floor or stair tread, or a stair riser or a closet shelf.

Is this the fastest/premiere XRF analyzer that is in compliance with HUD regulations? I am looking to buy/rent and I want the best.

LPA-1 is lower cost in the longterm and more reliable than Heuresis.

it is simple (paint the house with oil base paint 1 coat ) lead problem solved! unless the house was built in 1920's there will always be some type of led in paint, Great Tool BUT a lot of contractors will use that 0.4 number against you, is 0.4 harmful NO. but if your buying a HUD home they can make you tear out the walls if you already signed a 203k with an escrow (a big ass CON) pushed by folks only out there for money , also you can just paint most houses with any paint and solve the problem but the contractors dont want you to do that , they want to drain you dry , So watch out folks . and who am I to speak well I am the one with the current experience of all i have stated above :)

Lead poisoning is no joke, inhaling just 0.5 grams is considered a lethal dose. Painting over it is called encapsulating, which is fine. The issue is when you want to disturb the paint. You cannot expect a contractor to destroy their health for one job, so precautions must be taken.
