      I’ve synced my HomePod Mini that’s in my kitchen with my AppleTV, so I can go get a drink from the fridge and not miss any dialogue (I can’t hit pause while watching with others remotely). That way I can keep hearing the show while I do what I need to do.

      I love using the intercom all across the house. It’s a little complicated to tell Siri, in Spanish, the right command to use intercom (and other things like taking your music to another room) but it’s pretty awesome.
      Thanks for the video.

    One of the most comprehensive HomeKit videos I’ve seen so far in all my browsing. We seriously need more people to see your uploads bro! But then again, it’s up to Apple to step up their Home products capabilities. It’s frustrating because the potential is huge but the progress is slow. More people need to know about this, but people aren’t going to look for it unless Apple creates more HomeKit products and services. Chicken or the egg? 🐓 vs 🥚! Anyways, I’m a subscriber, so keep giving us good content bro. 👍🏾

    I recently switched from Echo to Home Pod - love the integration as we are all Apple devices however I REALLY miss the "drop in" feature where we could effectively call another homepod and have a back/forth conversation. I coudl call my daughters room and say good morning, ask her how she's feeling and if she's ready for breakfast, etc. Intercom is working but sometimes I have a question that needs an answer and I don't want to walk upstairs. I can't believe we can't "call another homepod". Drop-in seems a bit anti-privacy, sure, but at least call one where they can answer the call??

      Preach! I don’t need to be told that lights are on. I can understand having a verbal response if the command fails, but not every time she successfully runs a shortcut or home lighting change.

      Thanks! I don’t think iHeart radio has added support for this yet (hopefully they will). The 3rd party app needs to add support and there should be an option in that app when the do. For example, in the Pandora app, there is an option in the settings to “connect with HomePod.” Once this is done, you can change the default service in the Home app to Pandora.

    Hey Shane, can you use 2 paired homepods and 2 mini's to make a true home theater?

      No, unfortunately that is not possible. Hopefully one day we'll see something like that. Maybe with the release of an updated big HomePod?

      Just put two HomePods in the same HomeKit “room” and you’ll be prompted to use them as a stereo pair. Can’t group more than 2 unless you are using airplay.

      @@ShaneCreates Thanks for all the info. I definitely decided to go with Homekit over all the others thanks to your videos. I just bought 3 mini home pods because Costco had them on sale ($79) and think I will get a few more. So far, I'll have one in the kitchen, one in the family room and one in the master bedroom. Will get one for the basement and one or two to use in the kid's room.

    Hi Shane!
    Great job. Love your videos.
    I was wondering, is there a way to have a silence/focus mode for a homepod?
    For instance, if my husband is busy with a zoom meeting, can he silence the homepod so that I can't play music or send an intercom to him while he is busy?
    Have a great week, looking forward to your next video.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 года назад

      Thanks Marike! Not sure if it's possible directly, but you might be able to get creative. You can probably setup a personal automation in the Shortcuts app triggered by a focus mode. Then choose your HomePod as a Home Accessory to control and select 'change volume only'. Then turn the volume all the way down to 0. Not sure how that will do with intercom, etc. but might be worth a shot.

      You can try adjusting the Hold Duration in the HomePod's Accessibility Settings. Maybe that will help. I haven't tried using this.

    Is there a way to automate lights and audio based on an AppleWatch as I move around the house without having to ask Siri?
    I’m currently on crutches so my automation needs have changed. 😅

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 года назад +1

      No, not using Apple Watch. You’d have to use motion or door sensors right now. Ultimately, that’s something I hope to see one day…in the smart home of the future. The HomePods and the Apple Watches, among other apple devices, containing the U1 chip could lead one to suspect that, just MAYBE, we could get there one day.

    Is there a limit of how many Homepods/Homepod Minis that you can have in a home? Paired together and/or paired together?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 года назад +1

      Good question. Only two can be "paired" together, as in a stereo pair. But as far as multi-room using AirPlay 2, I haven't heard of a limit.

    great video! Question, and I apologize if I missed this in a different video, but is there a way to limit or prevent the kiddos from controlling certain things through the HomePod?
    For example, I would love to set a HomePod up in their rooms to control their own items (which I saw you covered) but for the living room HomePod, I don't want them to be able to change the thermostat or control lights in the master bedroom but able to turn off the living room lights.

    Hey Shane let me videos have a question about HomePod mini when you set up other people why is it when my wife speaks to the HomePod mini it always says who is speaking how do we fix that

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 года назад

      Sometimes I get that too. That just happens when the homepod is unsure who is speaking. When you have Personal Request and “recognize my voice” turned on, this happens sometimes as Siri tries to recognize the voice in order to execute personal request. I would just say, make sure she has Siri enabled on her phone and turn on “recognize my voice” in the home app settings.
      Also, on each homepod you can select a “primary user” that the HomePod will default to when it receives a request that it doesn’t recognize a voice for.

    I have a question I was hoping you can help me with that I’m not able to find anywhere else. I’m using all HomeKit automation so far and I have HomePods in every room but when I go to automate different scenes anytime there are multiple homepods in the scene i’m only able to select an all or nothing feature when it comes to the speakers. Sometimes I want to turn off all of the speakers except for two in my bedroom and perhaps even take it a step further and have them switch audio to a different playlist. Is there anyway to achieve this?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 года назад

      I don’t think there is a way to turn off some and turn on others. Have you looked at creating a personal automation or shortcut? That might be the only way to go for something like this.

      Hey Benjamin. Yes, if you are setting up a shortcut, and go to "control xx Home" you can choose your HomePod from the list of accessories. Then under "media" you can choose "adjust volume only" and set a custom volume.
