    You can get rid of the false triggers on the HC-SR501 PIR-module by soldering a 220nF ceramic capacitor across pin12 and pin13 on the BISS0001 chip (the two middle pins on the chip towards the end of the PCB)

    The microwaves emitted from this module create the Doppler effect, though the microwaves can travel through objects it is looking for a difference between outbound and inbound microwaves over and over, if it detects a change in the outbound compared to the inbound it can then assume something has moved so really any high density object moving can trigger the RCWL-0516 vs PIR only detecting IR (they both have pro's and con's but really its all project specific) also if you move in very small increments I have found that you can fool the RCWL-0516 but in any real world non diamond heist situation it works great lol, thanks for the video!!! CATS RULE TOO!!!

    I wasn't able to get the radar sensor to work with the esp8266. It seems the wifi radio interferes with the radar and triggers it.

    Hi,
    Do you know if the detection range can be adjustable? I have read in sales literature
    "2.R-GN Detection distance adjustment;connect with resistor and detection distance will become shorter;if not connect,detection distance is 7m;if connect with 1M ohm resistor,detection distance is 5m"
    but I am not experienced enough to understand if this is feasible? Have you tested this?
    Thanks

    Since this sensor is based on RADAR or radio waves, you should see if it detects motion on other RADAR reflective materials such as metals. If metals trigger it it could make a useful sensor to build home made metal detectors.

    This was interesting , because i have a couple of these sensors on order, and a planned project of: an automated cat door! I intend to use a 125khz rfid sensor with a cat collar tag to ID our own cats to activate the door, but the microwave sensor might be used to detect another unauthorised cats presence!

    Just trying to use one of these near a pond where water is flowing.... What do people think of it detecting water running in a pipe? i.e. the shape and position of the bulk of water does not change, but the water is being pumped through the pipe? My initial installation is giving constant triggers....

  • @RacoonMedia

    that's interesting. I was wondering if you could test if multiple sensors interfere with eachother. I saw in the previous video you had 2 of them.
    I would be intersted to know if you can also detect which one has been triggered.

    • @nenioc187

    Can the sensor detect distance to an object or just the presence of motion? i.e. could you program the arduino to display object distance? Ultrasonic sensors can do this I believe?

    • @nenioc187
      @nenioc187  6 лет назад

      It can only detect motion. For distance, you'll need ultrasonic sensor, or laser distance sensor, or IR distance sensor. I've made vids about all those sensors ;-)

  • @terryroe2023

    Can this work with a small speaker that buzzes when motion is detected? some we can have led visual alert and audio using speaker. How to do?

    • @malcolmholmes115
      @malcolmholmes115 3 года назад

      Yes, use active buzzer (such as for arduino) and transistor, since sensor current (middle pin) was not enough in my case to trigger the buzzer, I can barely hear it, but this current is enough to open a transistor

    what is the problem with the PIR and the node MCU?
    i never heard of this before and have a PIR and a D1 mini i want to use to make a motion sensor for smartthings so does the D1 mini have the same interference issues with
    PIR sensors?

    • @nenioc187
      @nenioc187  6 лет назад +1

      Never heard of problems with the PIR sensor, either. But this radar sensor seems to trigger without a reason, when running for quite a long time.

    • @andreamitchell4758
      @andreamitchell4758 6 лет назад

      @@nenioc187 that makes sense since it works with RF ,the
      the PIR uses IR so i would expect interference with the microwave sensor
      and not with a PIR

  • @jimxavum

    Nice one! Have you tried some basic range test?

    • @nenioc187
      @nenioc187  7 лет назад

      Very basic ;-). For the first video I wanted to test the range. The sensor was on one side of the room, I was on the other side and it still detects, when I was waving with my arms. That's about 3,5 meters. The cat, as you can see, had to be in close proximity to the sensor, for the sensor to react, as well as the bottle with water.

  • @RobertMcKenzie

    • @nenioc187

      Thanks for your reply! It was just a short comment online, so I dont have more info. It could be, because it needs walls/obstacles to help reflect the signal, but I agree it should probably work.
      The other question is that 3.1Ghz is not an ISM band and I am wondering if this kind of low power products are exempt or it would be illegal to use them.

    • @nenioc187
      @nenioc187  6 лет назад +1

      Put it on my bucket list: Test the rcwl in the wide open!
      The other thing is an interesting question. But I must agree. If it really emits radar on 3.2GHz base, it is not allowed to use it in most countries. I should investigate it further...

    • @mundutik
      @mundutik 6 лет назад

      I asked to a seller and they said 5,8ghz but I am not sure they really know or just replied without knowing. Also same board is advertised here as being 24Ghz (that would be legal ISM band)
      s.aliexpress.com/R3AruqMZ
      We would need a spectrum analyzer that goes all the way to 24ghz to test it

    • @nenioc187
      @nenioc187  7 лет назад

      There are several ways to detect objects. If you want to detect if an object goes through a certain area, why not using an ultrasonic sensor? If the measured distance changes, you'll know that something crossed your area.

    • @arnabghoshfilms7949
      @arnabghoshfilms7949 7 лет назад

      But this sesnor has a lot more advantages over ultrasonic becasuse it does not detect any other thing apart from movement.. but when i tasted it , i found that it was only detecting human and animals movement not any other object movement.. that's why i wanted to know!
