  • We are in our 2nd full year of selling cornish cross meat chickens at 2 separate farmers markets. It has been a great experience but also a ton of work. This week we have over 300 birds on pasture and another 135 chicks arriving in the mail. The chicks usually stay in the brooder till around 4 weeks old unless it is warm at night and we can get them out a week earlier. Follow along in todays video to see the chicks go out on pasture and start their journey of rotational grazing and also see the new chicks arrive and get set up in the brooders!

I have on many occasions noticed that chicks grow faster when free ranged. Without market feed

Hello my friend. I think the sizes of this model of chicken tractors are the same for all of them. You said in a video that the length of these chicken coops is 20 feet, can you write me how wide they are? Also, how many advanced chickens do you raise in these chicken tractors?

Only if the scalder is too hot. We try to keep our water at 150 degrees

Loved the video as usual. Thanks for sharing. I was wondering what size spikes do you use to hold the tractor down? And do you have a link for them?

For myself, I just use rebar from Lowes. Its pretty easy to form and inexpensive. I just make a right angle bend, but you could make a "shepherd's hook" like shown in the above video.
Also, a 3 or 4 inch bend on the end of a 15 inch long rebar spike makes a handle of sorts, and is easy to twist and pull up. Mine are also driven at an angle down through a 1 inch nut welded on each 5/8 inch "axle" that I mount my wheels when moving to a new spot.
After looking again, I believe the spikes in this video are also fashioned from rebar.

Thanks, I'm going to try that. I have extra rebar laying around, so I think it'll work great.

These are stakes that my grandpa made they are probably 18 in
      Rebar would work fine
