    Rex is the pioneer Filipino-American comedian ✊🏽 Saw him live in Hawaii some 9 or 10 years ago and I was crying of laughter! My parents are from the Philippines and I was born in the U.S. Most of his jokes are Filipino-culture focused so ppl who didn’t grow up in that culture may not relate to the jokes as well as someone who did would. But I think he is just hilarious 😂 and represents our culture well. Mabuhay Rex 🇵🇭

    I am 1 of his (rex) many fans so I asked him if work for him and if theres an available job. Then he told me about the job opportunities in his other business the SBC. Then asked me if I have experience working in a company. When I said "yes" he offered me the above job. I asked him again if there's vacancy for my friend who recently graduated. So then he answered, "Yes", we will give the below job. Me for the above job and for my friend for the below (blow) job.

      Tito Rex humor is a lot of inside "Filipino" jokes and shares with everyone to enjoy. He's making fun of himself and others but on an entertainment level. Not to take to heart. I can enjoy his style of humor and I take no offense to it. I recommend his "Hella Pinoy" stand up.

    It was actually the Mexicans who ruled the Philippines for 250 years with the direct order from Spain. When the Mexicans in the Philippines started fighting for independence, the Spaniards didn't like it and regained power, then they ruled the island for almost another 100 years.

    honestly, i don't see why people are making such a big deal about it. Seriously, he's on the Lopez show. It's the same comedy but different nationalities. However, I don't see anyone bitching about how he's making mexicans look bad. Some people are just over sensitive or too prideful. I feel like a true filipino would actually relate to these jokes rather than cry about them.

    Filipinos are Asians not Latino, I think he is born in the U.S.A. the geography of the Philippines is located in the Orient an Asian Continent. We were colonized by Spain and by the U.S. and also occupied by Japan during WW 2, Spain change the history of the Philippines, some of the dialects are influence and have borrowed words from Spain, even our names are religion are mess up. Filipino race ethnically is Malay and other Asian Countries like Indonesia are our ancestors, Our first National Hero is Lapu-Lapu and he was a Malay who fought the Spanish. We also have Chinese influence. 🇵🇭 🇵🇭

    • @polepino
      @polepino Год назад +1

      Yes, Filipinos are Asian but to say that Filipinos didn't pick up some Latin (Mexican) culture and blood is actually pretty wrong. Rex is actually part correct. Filpinos need to understand when talking about 'Spanish influence" what they are really talking about is heavy influence of people/culture from Mexico. I will enlighten you here.
      When Spain colonized the Philippines, the DID NOT sail around Africa and around India towards the PI. The Spaniards landed in the Americas... AND THEN because they were so busy dealing with the other colonies, they had their territory The Vice Royalty of New Spain (Mexico) do ALL of the administration of the Philippines, in other words Spain did NOT rule the Philippines directly from Madrid, they had Mexico City do everything for them. The Alcapulco-Manila Galleon trade was the ONLY way Spain was getting to the PI for most of the 400 years of colonization. You know what that means?! It means that the MAJORITY of the "Spanish" people going to the PI were MOSTLY Mexican born people and then some Central/South American locals from the colonies. The Spanish influence that the PI got was heavily influenced through the people of Mexico NOT Spain. Sure there were some high ranking actual Spaniards in charge who went to the PI, but the majority of sailors going were from the Vice Royalty of Mexico. Not only that, Filipinos were manning the ships back to Mexico for almost 400 years! Both Filipino and Mexican sailors got off the ships and tried to escape the Spanish rule and fled into the country side of the Philippines and Mexico.
      It is truth that some Mexican blood got mixed in some cities in the Philippines, one of them was Pampanga! Also, in Mexico, Filipino blood was mixed in heavily in the cities of Alcapulco and Colima. The loan words from Spanish also contain words that are native to Mexico NOT Spain (nanay and tatay are words from Nahuatl origin, from Mexico). Speaking of WW2... did you know that the ONLY time Mexico got involved was to send an air squadron to help the Philippines fight off the Japanese!? It's because of the shared history between Mexico-Philippines.
      Refresh on history :

      @@polepino This has no proof of whatsoever of the history you read was probably written by a Mexican Historian, Lap-Lapu the Datu of Cebu resisted the and fought the Spaniards before they even set sail in Cebu or even the other Provinces of the Country of the Philippines, Mexican that was send or landed in the Philippines was Probably the indios slaves of the Spaniards and maybe blend in with the Philippine Asian Culture, The Chinese, Malay, Indonesians already influence the Philippines even before the Spaniards was trying to colonized the Philippines, that's why if you know your History the KKK stands for katipunan Kataastasan Kagalang-galang ng mga Anak ng Bayan, A revolutionary secret operations against the Spaniards, that's why there was a war, and when Spain sold the Philippines for a cheap prize to the U.S., also a conflict occurred, That was the first Vietnam War in the Philippines versus the U.S.A. Mexicans were never there during WW 2, since the Philippines was a colony of the U.S.A Filipinos fight side by side with the Americans against the Japanese Imperialist forces, there was never a Mexican presence, the Huk Balahap also a secret organization guerrilla forces also provide help during WW 2 and all over the Provinces of Philippines guerrillas and scouts formed by the American military and defeated the Japanese Imperialist, Do your own research over my research and opinions....

    In terms of the spoken language, pronouncing the words correctly is a must in order for the recipient (listener) to understand the message.
    Ever wonder why other languages's alphabets, or more specifically the vowels, are pronounced differently? Spanish vs. English?
    If someone pronounced the Tagalog word "tabo" the way English vowels are pronounced, would a native Tagalog speaker recognize the word?

    also, there's a misconception that the languages of the phils are dialects. a dialect is american english, vs british english vs australian english = all mutually intelligible to each other, therefore 1 language w/ various dialects. bisaya is a language, as is tagalog, ilokano, kapampangan, etc. we have 170 languages in the philippines. they are not mutually intelligible to each other, therefore they are languages. a dialect would be the tagalog spoken in manila compared to batangueno tagalog.

White people make jokes about whites, blacks toward black etc. it's no different. and he's not just making fun of manny for how he speaks, but towards the entire culture. Deep down inside, and you know it's true, most filipinos do speak that way with the distinctive accent. So if you're seriously offended, well you must be fresh off the boat ;)

    When an English speaker who has never spoken Tagalog before tries to say the word "tabo", wouldn't it sound funny because it sounds differently?
    Maybe it's just me, but it sounds pretty hilarious (I've had non-Filipino friends say it).
    I'm not making fun of anybody, but I'm just trying to explain a perspective from a different angle.
    Anyway, my whole point to this is, words that belong in a certain language sound comical when spoken in an accent unfamiliar to that language itself.

    This wasn't that funny, SBC Packers is still my fave LOL.
    Audience here seem hostile about this kind of humor though, which I understand. I've been through that kind of treatment when I first moved here (U.S.). It was hurtful, yes, but later I realized that I can actually relate to why they would laugh whenever I pronounce words incorrectly. The way I see it, language isn't just based on word choice and grammar (written language), it's also pronunciation (spoken language).

  • @nenabunena
    @nenabunena 13 лет назад

    the joke goes well for americans but it's a bit off bec pacquiao is a typical filipino name in the phils. no one would've made fun of him. i had a classmate with a filipino name, but her surname was 'sugatan' & she had a lot of peklat on her legs! yeck! now that would've been made fun of, but not pacquiao. anyway, regardless, love rex!

  • @clarklana05

    How come a lot of Pinoy's are worked up in Rex's impersonation of Manny? Everything what he did was true, that's how a Filipino born from the Philippines (a Visayan one) probably from the South of the Philippines would speak english, if someone is not a fluent english speaker that is what you'll hear from them. Geez! 😱

  • @nenabunena

    @NamesROverated i agree with your post but your last derogatory comment calling him a fob is out of line. u filams have no pride in yourself & your people, you belittle them calling them names like fobs? u should check out maharlika's video on this issue. he's an american who notices filams denigrating millions of filipinos by calling them fobs from the motherland. most filipinos speak 3-4 languages, how many languages can filams speak? most dont even know what they are. bastos

    The Philippines at on time had the 6th best education rank throughout the world. The teaching of English (hardest to learn) has changed the economy with oversea's workers, Call centers, and Foreign Investments. Erap (Shamed Ex pres.) changed speaking the way English in the Philippines. I hate to say it, but you can tell the educated ones or happy go lucky Filipinos in seconds. My Cousins can speak english when calling for money for load for cell phones. 10 years same Life same place. SHAME

    @nenabunena there's a proper place and time to speak and learn a language. mind you, i didn't say he was dumb trying to learn a new language. i said he makes himself look dumb trying to speak it even when he's not ready to. don't try to change what i meant and make me look like the bad guy
